Video Transcript for Thule Bike Racks Replacement Anti-Sway Cage Review

Your Thule bike rack is designed to give you many years of good use. Here today, we're going to show you how you can make it last even longer with some replacement parts designed specifically for your Thule bike rack.Essentially, any part that's not the metal frame is replaceable. So if you find yourself missing a strap or a cradle, or even your anti-rattle bolt, we have a solution for you.So on our Hitching Post Pro today, we're actually have a problem with our anti-sway, so we're going to go ahead and use this to replace it. Come on over. Now, our anti-sway cradle is right here and you can pull it off just by working it side to side. You can see here how it's slotted and that slot does line up with the square portion right there, so you can get it into place. You'll want to bend it back down so that it's U-shaped and you can pull it right down. Now what it doesn't come with, the new one does not come with an anti-sway strap, so you'll want to take the strap off your old one, if your old one is still available like ours is.

Ours just has a little chip, a crack here and it's not fitting anymore, so we're going to get rid of that and we're going to transfer our strap over to the new one.If you are missing the whole thing, you can pick up a replacement strap here at etrailer as well. Now I do want to point something out here. You can see on this one right here. It's not an identical replacement. It's not the same but it's designed to work with multiple Thule bike racks so that's why it looks a little different. It's going to function just the same.

It's just going to look a little different. So we'll get it in place the same way we took the old one off. It does have a little more width to it but that's okay. That lines up with the outside tabs here and what we're going to do is it's designed to just go up into place. So it is a tighter fit because it's brand new but once you get it in place, just use the palm of your hand to push it up there and then it's going to rotate down.So I got my bike in place and as you can see the new one compared to the old one and it works just as well. In fact, maybe even a little bit better, cause it's a little more robust. So just like that, I'm able to load my bike up again and I saved myself several hundred dollars just by swapping out parts for my Thule replacement part here from etrailer.com.

Fits perfect for Thule Raceway 3

I ordered the Thule bike rack a few years ago and it has worked out well. Recently we lost one of the sway bars and was happy to see the etrailer had a large selection of parts and great pictures so I could match mine up. The ordering was quick and the part arrived quickly and snapped it back on. Received emails from etrailer with order confirmation and shipping so that was great!

Well unfortunately my son broke that piece off the rack again but this time the base of the rack came with it so no way to repair. It is not etrailers fault but rather faulty design on the behalf of Thule. The anti-sway clips stick out and get caught on bikes going on and off the rack plus when you take the rack off the car if the anti-sway clip is not pushed up it takes the weight of the rack and snaps it off as it did to us. I am a bit disappointed as this is an expensive rack and it is very heavy as well so if the anti-sway clips were more flexible material they would not snap off. Thanks for reaching out to us.

by:

I added these high quality Thule bike cradles as replacements to cheap plastic ones that came mounted on my $30 non-Thule bike rack. The 1" pipe size was the same, making this retrofit an excellent solution to an annoying problem. The cheap plastic holders on the rack I purchased broke the first time I used them. These will last a lifetime and do a better job - Thule offers the anti-sway which no cheap rack includes. The straps are also great for sun and salt - they don't harden, crack, break, or rot.

I took a garage sale junker bike rack and replaced all the components with Thule parts. It is fabulous - I can now be secure and fast and know it will stay that way for many years. Thanks!

by:

I've had my bike rack for over five years, and, while the model has since been replaced, it's fantastic that etrailer offers OEM replacement parts for rubber and plastic pieces that naturally age and wear out. The anti-sway cradle and strap were direct replacements and fit perfectly. Easy to install and work perfectly. etrailer did a great job communicating the order's progress, and it was shipped the day I ordered. Great work!

Thanks for the follow-up...what exceptional customer service! Im most impressed! The Thule parts continue to work perfectly.

by:

I was able to find a hard-to-find part that I needed for an older model Thule bike rack, and at a very reasonable price. The best thing was being able to chat with an knowledgable sales rep who confirmed in advance that it was what I needed.

by:

This is a replacement part for a hitch-mounted steel rack carrying 4 bikes. As part of the whole rack, these stabilizers hold the bikes securely from swinging back and forth. My major problem with these and other plastic and rubber parts of the rack system is that they eventually break at the attachment points. I've had to replace most of the removable parts and straps on the rack over the 5 or so years I've had it. Fortunately, all parts are readily available here at etrailer at a reasonable cost. Overall, it's worth the bother. The rack is easy to load and keeps my bikes safe.

by:

Very pleased with the professionalism of etrailer ans speed of shipping. The performance of the cradles and the anti sway cages is fantastic. Very pleased with the company and the product. Thank You

Working great thank you

by:

This worked very well. It kept the bikes from swinging on the rack.

by:

Great service from etrailer and the Thule bike rack has been excellent never lets us down. Two great companies

by:

simple and easy (once I figured out which direction to put it on.! I'm spatially challenged) We also got the Thule cradles and they easily slipped onto our [...] fold-down trailer hitch bike rack and now it is sooooo easy to load up the bikes! Plus I can tip the whole thing down (even without taking the bikes off though that is heavy) if I need to get into the back end of my Subaru. Yes! Now my inexpensive hitch performs like the priciest!

by:

The product broke upon doing what is was preventing my bike from doing-swaying. The piece is plastic and the weather was cold. But at least there is an easy replacement through eTrailer. I ordered an extra for the next time it breaks.

I ordered extra parts last time and since I have extras, havent needed them. But it is good to know where to get them should I need them!

by:

Works perfectly on Thule stay-put cradles.
Just
make sure the bike is tightly strapped on and you're good to go!

A year later and my anti-sway cages are still perfect!

by:

These are easy to install and use. I find that they do a good job of reducing sway on the hitch mounted bike rack. However I mounted the bike rack on the front of the truck and found that the air pressure there when on the road makes using these in that situation impossible, and it can actually break the attachment 'bars' on the bottom of the cradle.

by:

This is a component for an anti sway device on a bike rack. The parts are well designed, easily disassembled for different configurations, and work well for intended purpose.

Most of all, eTrailer is fantastic as usual. Great price and fast shipping. Bonus, if you have any issues, a live person answers the phone and a resolution comes in moments without pushback. If I need it, I check here first.

by:

I recently purchased a replacement part for my Thule bike rack. It was an anti-sway cage. The price was right and the service was excellent. Delivery was also very timely. I would order from etrailer again.

The Thule rack holds 3 bikes. However with the tie down arm broken I could only secure 2. So fast service was a great plus for me.

by:

I purchased this anti-sway cage and cradle to retro fit to my older Thule Passage rack. I bought the rack used from Craigslist and it did not have any clamps on the bike support arms, only some black plastic protective sleeves. I believe the rack was an older version of the 910XT.

Thanks to the details on this site and awesome pictures I was confident that they would fit (pic shows all the dimensions was very handy)

The items arrived in a well packed box with no instructions, but all you need to do is slide them onto the bars (and I am sure there is plenty of info and help on etrailer if I had asked :) )

The older passenger rack has upturned ends on the support arms so the cradles did not slide right on, but after a little WD-40 (which will eventually wash off, but the best thing to slide rubber grips on to new bars is actually hairspray. It allows the item to slide and then drys slightly sticky. I use it when I change grips on my MTB) they slide right on.

I haven't checked them on the car yet but I am sure they will be great.

Thanks

This review is NOT about the product, but about the customer service people I had contact with. Let's face it, you can buy this stuff lots of places. HOWEVER, the customer service people were fantastic. I wanted to purchase replacement parts for a Thule bike rack. I had no info on model, etc. The representative at etrailer researched Thule and found my bike rack was made in 1990, and parts were no longer available. But she did not stop there (as most would). Instead she located the necessary parts that would work on my rack. They are somewhat different, but yet function perfectly. I would have had to discard my bike rack if the rep. Had not taken the time to research and contact me with the info and then helped me fill my order. This is a great place to do business!

by:

I really like the bike rack I bought from the etrailer.com. The product has great quality. This anti-sway cages I bought now are to replace the ones that were broken by people who once broke into our car and tore down the parts. The customer service people are really helpful to identify the parts for us. I am very greateful for their help. They are one of the best custermer service people I have ever met. So feel safe and confident to purchase anything from this company.

by:

Got them on over 1" diameter bars on a 20-year-old Yakima bike rack. Rub the bars first with [dish washing soap] or similar product = enough lubrication to make getting them on easier, but then dries so the cradles stay where you want them.

Remember to buy the straps if you don't already have them - cradles don't work/secure your bike without them, but don't come with them.

The cradle is bigger than I expected, making it hard to position my wife's bike over it (not much space between the elements of the frame). The extensions at the bottom are to hold the sway stabilizers (another extra purchase + more straps if you need them). May carve off the bottom extensions of one cradle to ease that. When the bikes are tightly strapped down, I don't think I'll need the sway stabilizers.

Great service. Great prices. Prompt shipping. Solution I couldn't find anywhere else.

by:

Some Thule bike racks came with this part, others like mine didn't. It made my Thule bike rack more useful and secure. I'm glad this product was available from this website. Etrailer makes all my hitch and trailer stuff a one stop store.

by:

This product eliminates other methods I have used to control the swaying of my bikes - simple and quick. The new Stay-Put Cradles - 853-7887 are also a huge improvement. My Parkway carrier is a few years old, and the improvements over the previous cradles along with the addition of the Anti-Sway Cage makes it a perfect bike rack. The rack is mounted behind a 38' Fifth-wheel and my feeling of security has been GREATLY improved. Thanks, also for the wonderful service!

by:

Very smooth transaction. I needed replacement parts for a hitch mounted bike rack for an upcoming trip. With a search engine lead, I found etrailer.com and am glad I did. The customer service was excellent, I received the parts in very short order and am now prepared for the trip.

by:

I have an older model that was missing some parts so I was not able to carry more than one bike securely. These came in a timely fashion and worked great. I added these missing parts and carried two bikes into the mountains for a week long assisted bike trip. Bikes were carried securely as originally intended, even over rough forest service roads, without sway or mishap. I would go thru etrailer again if I needed parts.

  • Removing No Sway Cage part # 853-7758 From Frame Cradles
To remove the Replacement Anti-Sway Cage # 853-7758 you basically just need to reverse the installation process. You will need to fold the cage 90 degrees in relation to the cradle so that it is in the same position it was in when you installed it. Once the slot of the cradle is lined up with the open portion of the attachment point for the cage you will need to pull it off of the cradle. It might take some effort, but it will come off. • Will the Anti-Swag Cages of the Thule Raceway Bike Rack Scratch the Bike Frame
Due to the shape of the Thule No Sway Cage part # 853-7758 and the fact that it's made of a softer material than the finish of bike frames it does not typically scratch the finish of bike frames. That we are aware of none of our customers have had issues with scratching. However, if the cages or your bike frame had dirt or debris on them scratching could occur. I would recommend you keep the surfaces of both as clean as possible.

Next thing you want do is find the screwdriver with the thickest handle you can find that the head of it still fits the screw in the cap. The basic idea is that the thicker the handle the...
