Over the lifetime of my Thule bike rack I have had to order several Anti Sway cradles and Angled Extensions because they keep falling off. Once I install them on the bike rack I pull on them to make sure they are attached securely. Nonetheless, at some point they fall off. I don't understand why. If you have any suggestions, I would apprreciate them. Thank you.

I am sorry to hear this is a reoccurring issue with your bike rack. I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and they believe it could be that the cradle may be dislodged when putting the bike on and off. Or it could be that the cradle may not be fully seated when installed.

The actual product (I assume you produced it?) is usable but the whole design is poor. It is part of an excellent bike rack for a hitch by Thule but I keep losing them and therefore must keep re-ordering. This is the third time I purchased the exact same parts. It takes two to make a anti-sway cradle for the rack. They should have been a permanent attachment as a former rack by Yahmaha had.

We do not produce these parts. These are original, factory parts from Thule.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! The manner in which these install, with the open channel needing to align with the bars on the underside of the bike cradles mean they can only be installed in one way. Due to this, they can only come off in the same way, so we always advise that when not in use, you fold these up in the opposite direction, so the open channel is facing down, and then there is no way they can come off.

I have purchased bike racks for spare tires as well as hanging trunk racks from eTrailer, along with replacement parts, for over 5 years. Their products are world class and stand up to time when installed and maintained as directed. Nothing is perfect, but if you continue to lose moving parts, I suggest you pay more attention to restraining a component that does not need to be attached when not in use.

I ordered these replacement cradles from Thule directly. Initially they said they were shipped, but when they didn't appear I called them and they told me they were on back order. I waited approximately 6 months, calling every now and then to follow up, and finally gave up. I then ordered them from etrailer.com and had them within a few days! And, they work perfectly! Don't bother ordering from Thule directly, just use etrailer!

So terribly dissapointed here!

While
this part worked as long as we had it: it's life was as short as the one that came with the original THULE bike rack. I.e.: it disappeared shortly after installation....

Seems to be a design flaw: this part locks in pretty well...but the part that reaches out to lock in the bike is easily knocked off & lost. No point in using this part to secure your bike...if the attachment that links to the bike gets blown away so easily.

Next car: we're switching to a different bike mount solution. The Thule one wobbles terribly (despite going back to the installers who say there's no solution....) so much so that others on the road signal to us to alert us to the horrible wobble of our bike rack...).

About a year ago, we purchased a number of replacement parts for our Thule aluminum bike rack. They've all been great. Both anti-sway attachments and straps have held up well, and we've now driven them up and down the US East Coast several times. Very happy with both product and service, and I'd strongly recommend etrailer.com to anyone in the market for replacement parts for their Thule bike rack!

Standard extension replacement piece for anti-sway brackets. Good stuff... so good people take it off your rack if you don't watch it :)

So far had only positive experiences with etrailer. Part works well.

I bought my Thule Vertex bike rack from another online vendor before I discovered etrailer.com. Later, I found the same rack and so many more to choose from on etrailer.com, along with video product reviews, showing how the different racks operate and how they fit on different vehicles. It was so helpful that I have since recommended etrailer.com to several people who have admired my bike rack. Shortly after I bought the rack, one of the anti-sway cradles fell off and I lost it. I was so thrilled to find the replacement parts on this website for a very reasonable price. Now I am careful to secure the cradles and attachments with the straps when I am driving without bikes on the rack.

This is a component for an anti sway device on a bike rack. The parts are well designed, easily disassembled for different configurations, and work well for intended purpose.

Most of all, eTrailer is fantastic as usual. Great price and fast shipping. Bonus, if you have any issues, a live person answers the phone and a resolution comes in moments without pushback. If I need it, I check here first.

So far. The replacements seem to be working as intended. Thank god for etrailer.com to provide replacement parts for my 5+ year old bike carrier at a reasonable price.

My original anti-sway attachments were stolen from my rack. Ah, people - some of them good, some of them bad. If you are not using the rack, I would suggest removing the anti-sway attachments - they are too easy to steal.

by:

I thought the Thule parts I needed would be hard to find. No, etrailer had them , then super fast delivery and great customer service.

by:

Very grateful that etrailer.com had these angled extensions for anti-sway cradles that were "removed" (i.e. stolen) from our Thule bike rack. Etrailer had a full selection of the parts we needed for our specific bike rack model. Easy to navigate, search, and order from the etrailer website. Delivery was as scheduled.

I own the Yakama swing Daddy bike rack and the Thule Apex 4 bike rack. I think this part should've been part of the Apex bike rack in the first place. In general I think Yakama makes a better bike rack with a permanent anti-sway mechanism so it can't get stolen. The Thule angled extension attachment can easily be stolen, so I would recommend taking it off when you leave on your bike ride. This part angles the anti-sway attachment so that your bike hangs straight down since the Apex bar is curved. eTrailor did a great job shipping my item and keeping me updated on the status of my shipment.

by:

Fit perfectly with my Thule bike rack.

I purchase some replacement parts for a Thule bike rack. The prices and the shipping costs were reasonable. The parts were shipped to Alaska and came priority mail, which is a bonus for non 48 states residents. Fast turnaround from order to shipping. Communication was great too!! Thanks

by:

I purchased the Thule Apex 4 bike rack used, but a few parts were missing. I readily found all the parts I needed, listed on etrailer's website. The ordering process was very easy and the parts arrived at my door in Florida within a few days. I recommend etrailer to anyone looking for competitively priced high quality products backed up by excellent customer service.

The one item I couldn't find and would love to obtain, is the Thule name lettering that is applied to the product and which has been partially scuffed off.

by:

Parts were just what I needed. Very easy to select parts from exploded assembly drawing. Shipping was much less expensive than on the Thule site. Arrived in the forecasted time.

No pictures but what ordered was a few bike rack parts that sometimes vibrate off if not secured. I'll secure them now. Haha.

by:

The replacement parts are just like the original one's, and the delivery was quickly.

I still am using this bike rack and the replacement part is still working great.

by:

Same as the parts that come with the Thule bike rack I have. Fit perfect and price was low enough that I bought a few extras.

by:

I purchased this as a replacement for the one that fell off my carrier. I had difficulty finding just this piece alone and it was priced extremely reasonably here. I have to say this bracket fits more snugly than the one I lost so I hope not to lose it again. Shipping speed and communication are excellent with etrailer.com.

by:

I bought these Angled Extensions for my Thule Helium Bike Rack; one had fallen off so these were replacements. They arrived early without a lot of excess packaging...will order again from this seller.

by:

I needed replacement cradles for my Thule Helium Aero bike rack. However, all published literature indicated none was available. I called etrailer and they confirmed that no replacement was approved by Thule. I took a chance and ordered two of these. They are exact replacements for the Helium Aero, look exactly like the old ones, and fit perfectly. To get them on, the rivet holding the end cap needs to be drilled out, and a new rivet installed, but it was a straightforward process. It took me 35 minutes, start to finish, to install.

by:

Great supplier for complete line of Thule replacement and spare parts for bike racks! In stock and quick shipping.

Researching where I could purchase a replacement part for my bike carrier, came across the etrailer site! Part was the right price, but more important shipping costs were low!!! I ordered on a Saturday and part arrived on a Monday,,,great service!!

  • Replacement Anti-Sway For Thule 9042 Helium Aero 2
The anti-sway portion of the cradle on your Thule Helium Aero 9042 bike rack consists of three pieces. The extension clip that attaches to the underside of the actual cradle that the bike frame tube sits on which is part # 852-3108-001, the anti-sway cradle itself that joins the clip and the strap, which is part # 852-3037-001 and the strap which is part # 852-3006-001. • How to Remove the Angled Extension for Anti-Sway Cage on Thule Apex, Helium Aero or Vertex Bike Rack
The Thule anti-sway angled extensions # 852-3108-001 can be removed from the Hold Fast cradle the reverse way they are installed. I have attached a photo from the Vertex instructions showing how they are installed. The angled extension will rotate so that the slot in the extension (shown in photo) is lined up with the bar on the underside of the cradle (show in photo). The bar on the underside of the cradle is not round, but oval-shaped, so the extension can only be removed when the opening...

  • What is the Anti-Sway Cage Extension Used For on the Thule Apex Bike Rack
Some bikes have frames with steep angles that may necessitate the use of the extension. In other cases there may be something attached to the frame that would block the anti-sway cradle unless the extension is used. It is situational and it depends on so many factors of whether you would use the extension or not. The extension would install to the bottom of the cradle in place of the anti-sway cage. Then the anti-sway cage would install on the bottom of the extension as if it was the cradle.
