Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the replacement hold fast cradle for the Thule Vertex bike racks. This unit replaces one hold fast 5050 cradle for your Thule Vertex bike rack. To see all the models that it fits, you can check out the product page at eTrailer.com. It simply slides onto the arm of your rack for an easy installation and easy replacement. It is a direct replacement part, so it's identical to the one that came from the factory on your Vertex bike rack. It also is constructed so that it's ready to go and work with an anti-sway cage attachment as well as rubber straps to hold your bike securely in place to the bike rack.

It does have the advanced grooves that are designed to accommodate the cables that are located on your bike. This rack carries a bit more weight than some of the others and we like to have more capability than less, you never know what you might want to do in the future! Our 4 mountain bikes fit, we used pool noodles as barriers so there was no paint loss during the trip. No issues, rack came, was installed, realized the girls bikes wouldn't fit the cradles so we improvised with some old Bell rack cradles we had laying around. All the bikes made it and back for the visit as planned. We hope to figure out a better cradle solution soon for the girls bikes. Etrailers has great service and good shipping, no hassles!
These bike rack cradles were exactly what I needed - easy to install and fit perfectly.
I purchased these cradles to replace broken cradles on a Cabela's bike rack made by Hollywood. The were a tight fit on the bars, but, a little WD-40 took care of the problem. The great thing is that the Hollywood straps with the square holes seem to work fine on the cradles. Excellent product at an excellent price.
My Thule 9030 Vertex is like new again!
The old cradles would not stay put and my bikes would eventually run together. Now my bikes stay put and don't rub.
These cradles seemed to be improved, they feel harder and less flexing is noticed. I had a bike damaged recently and now with the new cradles in place I have less worries. For extra insurance I also use Velco One-Wrap Ties.
We recently purchased replacement parts for a Thule bike rack. After fruitless effort to find the parts at area bike shops we located what we needed on line at etrailer. The parts were necessary for bike trip. The ordering process at this company was phenomenal. I did call to ensure we were buying the correct parts and was impressed with the online service we received. We did have to expedite our order and our shipment arrived very quickly. Perfect fit replacements for old and worn parts on my old but still functional Thule Vertex bike rack. Had to drill out a couple of rivets to remove the end plugs, but the holes are standard 3/16" diameter so they take standard aluminum pop rivets to reinstall the plugs.
etrailer had this Thule bike rack OEM saddle part that even my local Thule retail shop didn't stock or even want to order.
I intend to add two additional saddle mounts to increase my bike carrier from 2 to 3.

Excellent selection, service, and prices. When the original cradles I ordered wasn't available, I called, talked to a live person, who told me she would have to call the supplier to double check on the updated part. She then called me back an hour later with confirmation that this cradle was equivalent, and walked me through the modified order. I received the parts in the mail 2 days later via standard shipping. And the parts were 50% cheaper than I found elsewhere!
Note - I used these to replace the cradles for a Hollywood rack where the nubs on the strap posts had all broken off. The hope is that these will be more durable. These cradles work, but the fit is a bit too tight for convenience. The Hollywood cradles with the anti-sway attachments were a bit too loose and would slide sometimes during transit. The matching Hollywood cradles, without the sway attachment, fit perfectly snug. These cradles, however, were so tight, that after spending ~15 minutes prepping the bars by cleaning and lightly sanding them, and then coating them in teflon and molybdenum powder - the inside of the cradles are already coated with something - I almost bruised my palm trying to twist them on. I then tried dishwashing soap and a little water, which worked better, so I probably ended up washing off all the powder. Still difficult though, until I stumbled on the technique of pulling down and twisting the cradle with one hand while tapping them on the top with a rubber mallet using the other hand (and re-applying dishwasher soap on the bars when it dried out.) With this technique each cradle only took ~1 minute to slide on. At this point, I may not be able to turn and readjust the cradles by hand, but it's a piece of cake with large adjustable pliers.
Parts for an older model Thule bike rack needed. I understand the bit of delay sourcing them and getting them to me, but eTrailer.com got me the parts when other sites came up empty. Very satisfied.
The ears on these cradles break off after a year of steady use (four rides per week) but the replacement cost is low and etrailer is a super supplier. My LBS rates etrailer above Thule for Thule parts! Removing the end caps on my older Thule Vertex racks requires drilling out a pop rivet and then re-riveting, but there are very good youtube clips to show you how to do just that.
The Thule cradle and stapes were both ordered at the same time. The order was easy to place, convenient to find on the internet and very fairly priced compared to other sites. The order has just arrived in "good condition". It was packaged safely and well padded. The box was marked with etrailer and easy to spot as out awaited parts. I have not installed these parts as of yet, but, they are it great and undamaged condition.
What can I say? These are factory replacement cradles for my vertex. The service from etrailer however, was flawless! Nice job guys!

Hi Christophe - My Vertex appears to have the end-caps attached via rivets. Did you drill yours out to remove them and then put new rivets in? Thanks!

This worked and my bike rack is good as new. HOWEVER, what was really impressive was the tremendous support I got from etrailer. They worked hard to make sure that I was satisfied with my purchase and that I had the right replacement part. The customer service was the BEST of any I've had with a etailer.

The replacement Hold Fast Cradle and Anti Sway cradle, and other accessories are really great. The cradles seem more solidly constructed than the ones I have on the car. Can't wait to install them later today. The straps are very high quality and much needed as one of mine grew legs and went missing and second one developed a split and wasn't able to fasten where I needed it. So getting 3 straps at a superb price was really cool and now I have 1 in reserve in case any of my other straps misbehave. Thank you for superior products at a great price. Thank you also to George J for getting them to me really fast!

This needed to have the elastic spacer to stay in place on the bar. Took the spacer out of the old cradle to fit the bar and hold it in place. Might be nice to the 1/4" spacer with the new cradle. It's an older hitch rack.
Products was exactly as advertised. Lowest price around for these products. I will definitely reorder parts from etrailer in the future. Great order follow-up and quick shipping. Good company.
Everything was package so nothing was damaged. I appreciate customer service in keeping us informed on the progress of our order. I have used this company several times and have had good results each time.
It was the part I needed but installation was problematic. I needed different tools than I had. Bur once installent, exactly the right part.
