Parts arrived as described will be installed in March seem to be a little more stout than the original Tie-Down Calipers

Out with the old and in with the new. After bleeding all four calipers the brakes worked like they were brand new. I just hope the Kodaguard holds up to keep them from rusting. The old calipers were 6 years old.

by:

Very good products, fast shipping, the calipers work great.

by:

Had to purchase this one because one of the four I installed less than a year before blew a seal.

by:

Accurate fit and easy to install. The website made it easy to find the correct one the first time.

I purchased 4 Kodiak KDBC225KG calipers to replace 10 year old Kodiak 225, plain, cast iron calipers on a twin axle EZ Loader trailer used to tow a 22 ft. Hewescraft sportfishing boat. The boat is used exclusively in saltwater in NW Washington state.
The original calipers were fully functional, but the original friction pads had detached from the backing plates in 3 out of the 4 calipers. So, I decided to remove and replace the calipers and pads. Kodiak and the other manufacturers offer an array of options, from stainless steel rotors, calipers, friction pad backing plates etc., to basic cast iron components with varying degrees of surface treatment to resist corrosion. The Kodiak website briefly discusses the different coatings and the results of continuous testing with salt spray, not total immersion. I decided to give the Kodiak Kodaguard coating a try based on its advertised corrosion resistance and it's position, cost-wise, between stainless steel and untreated cast iron.
The calipers arrived using standard, free shipping, in 5 business days, and well packaged. I was impressed by the appearance of the Kodaguard coated calipers and discovered that the friction pad backing plates included as part of the assembly, are stainless steel. This detail was not mentioned in the "etrailer" product description. I also want to acknowledge excellent communication from "etrailer"related to the shipping progress. I expect great performance from the Kodiak KDBC225KG calipers and pads but, since I'm currently completing the installation, I have yet to tow the boat and trailer with the new components installed.

I changed out two tie down calipers and pads for these kodiak calipers and pads. These are much more heavy duty.the finesh look tough. I had a tough time mounting the one on the left side of my westco trailer. Very little clearance, since the kodiak slide bolts are larger and longer than the tie down. My wife came out and said a little prayer, and they went on.! The one on the right side went on with ease. Had to be more clearance on the right side than the left. I kept the same roters . Cleaned and buffed with drill and wire brush. They drag a little, but when I installed the ones I'm replacing they grug initially , but it went away. I hope I don't have an issue. I bled the lines after installation. I'm happy at the present. I got 4 years out of tie down. Will see how these do.

by:

Price was good. Shipping was quick. Trying the coated calipers with the stainless steel backing plate on the pads, this time. Even though the trailer and brake system is flushed after every use: it's always a problem keeping the calipers in working condition on a trailer that's always used in salt water. this trailer is 17 years old and still going strong.

by:

So far I like this products but I will know more about it and I have back the trailer in the saltwater for a few years to see than how they hold up

by:

The delivery was quick. Unfortunately, I bought this caliper to replace the one I bought last season. It froze up. The other side was fine. I was hoping to get more use out of them. Also, I bought the caliper not realizing that it came with brake pads. I bought another set of pads too. I guess I'll keep them as a backup.

  • Replacement Disc Brake Calipers For Boat Trailer With Surge Brakes
The caliper itself will typically have information stamped on the casing for the cylinder(see image). Here are some examples of what is stamped on the calipers we carry along with finish on that caliper. • Difference Between Fixed Brake Calipers and Free Floating Brake Calipers For Trailer Disc Brakes
The Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper # KDBC225KG is a free floating caliper. It has to float as there is only a piston on one side of the caliper and as it pushes the caliper slides and applies clamping force on both sides of the rotor. Fixed calipers like the Dexter # K71-693-00 will have pistons on both sides to push both pads into the rotor. If you need help finding a replacement caliper for your 2000 Nitro I will need to know what disc brake kit was used on the trailer.

  • Recommended Replacement Caliper For A Kodiak 225
We do sell the caliper but it will come with pads included. I have three options for you listed below depending on your trailer's application: Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper - Dacromet - 3,500lbs to 6,000lbs # KDBC225DAC. - Dacromet plating provides excellent corrosion resistance for freshwater or saltwater use with a 300- to 400-Hour salt-spray rating. Kodiak Disc Brake Caliper - KodaGuard - 3,500lbs to 6,000lbs # KDBC225KG. - KodaGuard plating provides excellent corrosion resistance for...

  • Determining if Trailer with Disc Brakes Can Replace Caliper with # KDBC225KG
Replacement calipers are brand specific since it's more than just the bracket bolt holes that need to line up. The rotor position relative to the mounting bracket is slightly different between brands so you do need to verify that you have a Kodiak setup to use the part # KDBC225KG that you referenced even if the bolt hole dimension was somehow to match. To do this is pretty easy though as you'd basically just need to look at the caliper and on the round portion that holds the piston and...

  • Replacement Brake Calipers and Mounting Brackets for Load Rite Tandem Axle Trailer with 3.5K Alxes
Because Kodiak hasn't tested their calipers with brackets from Tie Down, they weren't able to say if they'd be compatible. We do offer the calipers and the brackets sold separately, though. The caliper is part # KDBC225KG and the bracket needed will depend on what type of rotor you have. If you have a hub/rotor, use # KCMB10HRD or # KCMB10RD if you're using a rotor that slips over an idler hub. Each part is sold individually.

  • Replacement Caliper for Kodiak Disc Brakes With 10 Inch Rotor
It sounds like you are looking for a replacement caliper for your Kodiak Disc brakes with a 10" rotor like the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35S. Depending on the finish you need we have a few different options available for replacement calipers. For dacromet you need the # KDBC225DAC. For KodaGuard you need the # KDBC225KG. The last option is for stainless steel which would be the # KDBC225S. All of these are designed to fit 10" rotors with axle ratings from 3,500-6,000 lbs. I have attached...
