Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Whole process was super easy. Entered my vehicle make and model, and got my tow hitch and wiring harness ordered. Shipping was quick and install took about 30 minutes. Couldn't be happier! Definitely will be oredering another for my other vehicle.

2015 Jeep Patriot

After owning for one year, it has been a valuable addition to our Jeep Patriot. We have pulled a small trailer well over 3,000 miles. We went from a Suburban to the Patriot and definitely need this to haul our belongings. I did spend the extra time to get the power cable up to the engine compartment by way of fishing it under the carpet or plastic trim. So it is completely hidden except in the door panel. There is no way to get it thru the firewall between the engine and the dashboard so this has worked well. Am going to install this same kit on my sons Patriot for Christmas.

The hitch and wiring harness Ipurchased from etrailer fit very well under my 2016 Jeep. It was easy to install and great instructions . This maybe my 4th or 5 th hitch and harnesses I,ve installed on my vehicles. Keep up the Good work and good products
Thank you

Good idea in lessening the electric load from the trailer. Wiring harness fits really tight and could use a couple inches in places.

Comments
Been working fine. Though I keep my equipment clean and in working order. Have had no problems with this unit once installed.

2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Device initially worked fine & installation was a breeze. After 2-3 mths the trailer's left rear brakelight would not illuminate, even though the trailer lights were fine, when towed with other vehicles. After 6 mths, the tow vehicle's left rear brake light dimly lights. All connections check fine. The self adhesion tape holding the module to the vehicle came loose over the winter, even though the body panel was cleaned with an alcohol wipe, prior to instillation. Disappointed in this unit.

I ordered a trailer wiring harness for my Jeep Patriot. It arrived on time and in good shape. After installing it on the vehicle a problem arose with the wiring module keeping a relay open causing the right tail light to be on a constant on position. After calling and explaining the situation to etrailer customer service they immediately sent out a replacement harness! They stood by their product without question and made it possible for me to fix the issue with the least amount of headaches. I am extremely satisfied with their response and professionalism shown here. I'd def. continue to use them and their products in the future.

Follow the video directions and this is a pretty easy installation. Took me a couple hours because you have to work under the vehicle to run the 12 gauge black power cable from the back to the engine compartment for the positive battery connection. I used like 2 dozen 6" length cable ties and connected the power cable to the rear brake line tubing going from the drivers side rear brake to the engine compartment. Have to be careful when routing the power cable around the rear suspension shock coil spring area because all that equipment moves. My local trailer hitch dealers charge $90-100 for this installation and they want you to leave the vehicle for the day which is not desirable. Thanks for all the detail in the video, it really did help!

Ford Edge

Easy install , do not put the push pins back in the bumper cover till after the wires are done. The dimensions given for notching the bumper cover were just right measure from the edge and that is it. U-haul haas a install video on the light wiring don’t over think it.

by:
2010 Chrysler Town and Country

Overall this wiring harness is very easy to install. However this was the second one I had to install on my van. 3 weeks later it fails in the middle of a camping trip. Stopped into a trailer shop. They verified the wiring was correct, but once again the unit wasn't allowing power to flow to the trailer. I've always purchased all my trailer supplies from etrailer and will continue to in the years to come, but this product is one that doesn't last or work as advertised

by:
2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

I have a 2010 caravan and I was told I needed this lighting connector, but plan old 4 in a row lighting wire connector is all you needed! and it does a better job!

Comments
Theoretically, a standard 4-pin connector without a taillight converter and direct connection to the battery will work. However, the powered converter is recommended for two reasons. 1 The converter serves to isolate the vehicles sensitive and expensive to repair electrical system system from any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring. 2 Years ago, the vehicle manufacturers used heavier-gauge wire for the taillight circuits, so pulling the extra amperage for trailer lights through those circuits wasnt a problem. Now, due to the need to save every ounce of vehicle weight and the rising cost of copper, smaller gauge wiring is used which might not be able to handle the extra load from trailer taillights. The powered converter will draw its power directly from the vehicle battery, providing a reliable power supply for your trailer taillights.

2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Absolutely no problem with the wiring harness while it was on my 2010 Caravan. However, the trailer hitch from the 2010 was the same as called for for my 2016 Caravan, the wiring harness did not match the new hookups so I no longer have the wiring harness.

by:
2010 Chrysler Town and Country

Everything worked as advertised. Instructions were clear. Video was helpful. Installation was straightforward. Green wire to right side taillight could have been a few inches longer.

Comments
I have had no problems. I am completely satisfied with the wiring package I purchased.

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Good product, works fine and installation is easy. The instructions are great and the installation video on e-trailer is a big plus. The only difference I had is I was unable to run the trailer connector inside the vehicle. I either didn't have of couldn't find the hole. I ran the wire and connector underneath the bumper cover. I like this better anyway because now I don't have to run the wire and connector out of the cargo compartment and close the tailgate on it.

by:
2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

I am very pleased with this product and the relatively easy installation. The online video for installation on a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country was a great help since I was installing on my 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The only difficult task I encountered was running the hot wire to the battery in the engine compartment, which took me over an hour. I chose to run this wire under the vehicle as shown in the video, first going up and over the rear suspension and then following the brake lines. Since the wire is exposed to the elements and is always "hot", I recommend using some plastic tubing to protect it, which I didn't think of until after I had it routed. I am now going to go back and redo it with the tubing. I would like to see that recommendation included in the instructions when routing this wire under the vehicle.

by:
2013 Dodge Durango

I'm just now getting to this review probably because I am just now putting the product on my Durango. First off I noticed on the package that it nowhere said that it was for the Durango, it mentioned other Dodge vehicles but not the one that I drive. Everything worked out very easily as far as set up until it came time to run the powerline to the front of the vehicle it was not long enough. I had to add a few extra feet and use another butt connector which I had to purchase to make this happen. Everything is working properly as far as the trailer hook up is concerned. The only issue I'm having now is my rear hatch which is push button and on my key Farb have quit working immediately after I hooked up this product. I'm going to do a few troubleshooting ideas to see if I can get it working again.

by:

your service is always good, but bought a wiring kit, and wired it correctly (I'm an engineer) and there is a short in the unit that keeps the trailer lights dimly lit even when the car and lights are off. I have to unplug the trailer every time I park it.

by:
2016 Jeep Patriot

This is the second trailer hitch that I have purchased from etrailer.com. They both were exactly what I wanted. The installation went well, the instructions were clear. I also bought the electrical kit for the trailer lights and everything I needed was there. Good Job!

by:
2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

This is a direct replacement for the factory installed trailer lighting interface. It is an exact match for my 2008 Dodge Caravan, and contains all the components needed to add trailer lighting or to replace defective parts.

by:

Installed the hitch, and watch a video on installing the trailer wiring kit. A little apprehensive that the kit might not be the right one, but pleasantly surprised to note it was! Took my time, and followed the video and instructions in sequence. Hardest part was running that black power wire forward to the battery. No problems though, and tested OK. Plugged in the trailer harness, and the left rear brake light and blinker didn't work. Checked and did the WD-40 thing, replaced the bulb, and that fixed the issue. People need to know about these issues, because they may think they made a mistake in wiring the kit!

by:
2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

The video on YouTube led me to etrailer. and also gave me the courage to install it myself. I had originally planned on taking to my local trailer store and letting them do their thing. I saved a couple hundred dollars doing it myself, between the hitch and wiring, and as a first timer, am glad I did. It went well, and I think I will do it again next time. The harness was easy to install, I would have been nice if there was a way around running the hot wire from the back to the front- but that would be a request to Dodge I guess.

by:
2015 Jeep Patriot

Wanted a wire harness for my 2015 Jeep Patriot. I ordered one from a parts outfit that said the package would my Jeep perfectly, for 39.00 I got their part and I have no clue what it is and what it fits. I found eTrailer's wed site, found the exact wiring harness I needed, they verified it was a perfect fit. I just installed it on my Jeep in about 30 minutes and it works great. I know where I will go my trailer needs.
