Video Transcript for Review of Flint Hill Goods Trailer Wiring - Hex Self Tapping Screw - FA1131822

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long unslotted hex drive zinc finish self-drilling screw. This is for a quantity of one. Now if you notice, this is an unslotted hex washer head self-drilling screw, has a zinc coating for corrosion resistance, and this is great for use on grounding wires with a 1/4 inch diameter ring terminal. As we mentioned, the size on this is 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long threads.

The overall length of this is 3/4 of an inch. The hex head size on this is 3/8 of an inch, and it is a steel construction with zinc-plated finish, and it is case hardened. But that should do it for the review on this 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long unslotted hex drive zinc finish self-drilling screw.

Excellent product and fast service. Definitely will buy from them again for all my trailer needs.

Worked well on my boat trailer for mounting lights on metal frame. If you have never used self tapping metal screws the secret to making the process quick and easy is to drill a pilot hole just slightly smaller in diameter than the screw threads. If your drill bits are not the sharpest in the world another tip is to start with a smaller bit and then use successive larger bits until the hole is slightly smaller than the screw.

After one year of exposure to the elements an being in and out of water at boat ramps, and traveling some fairly rough roads to reach boat ramps, these fasteners are still securely in place.

Exactly what I needed to rewire a 20-year-old trailer that was starting to show it's age with inconsistent lighting performance and continuity issues. In addition to purchasing this lighting harness, I upgraded all my incandescent bulb side markers and taillights with LED units and complete rewired the trailer. etrailer had everything I needed in one place with excellent pricing and superb service. Everything is working great and I love the brightness and visibility of the LED lights.

Did the job of installing new jacks.

by:

Good for what it is, but note that these are too short to go through, say, tie-down racks then plywood sidewalls, and into the metal framing of a utility trailer. The picture does not really show the relative length of the threaded part and the drilling part for this length screw.

by:

Used 8 of these screws to attach two scissor jacks onto my pop-up frame. These worked just as expected

by:

I was worried that the screws might of been lost as the box the order came in was really beat up. But nope they were there.

by:

I am very happy with the quality of the products and the service! Most of all I want to compliment you on the instructional videos included in your websit. They are simple to follow, informative and answered several questions I had about the products and the installation. I will definitely be back when needed and highly recommend etrailer.com!!

by:

  • Recommended Mounting Bracket for Trailer Wiring for 2016 Volvo XC90
I have a solution for you, but the Curt # C53HR does not have a spot to mount your trailer wiring harness. However, you can add one using either the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144 or Curt Mounting Bracket for 7-Way Connector Plug # C67UR. The Curt bracket doesn't come with any hardware like the # 18144 but you can use some self tapping screws like the Self-Tapping Screw - 1/4" -14 x 3/4" Long - Zinc # FA1131822 to mount this to the fascia.

  • Installing a Brake Controller in 2001 Toyota Tacoma
Based on my research, the 2001 Toyota Tacoma did not come with a factory trailer connector. However, since you already have a 4-way connector installed on your truck, you will be able to start here for your brake controller installation. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. This is a proportional brake controller with a digital display. It will level automatically when mounted within a 360-degree vertical range. The brake controller installs in your Tacoma...

  • If Brake Wiring is Damaged do Trailer Brakes Need to be Changed Out
If it's just the wiring that has been damaged then you only need to replace the brake wires. We recommend using 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 for the installation. Electric brake assemblies have 2 wires; 1 for power and 1 for ground. It doesn't matter which wire on the brake assembly is used for which function. Should your ground connections be damaged as well then you can use the Ring Terminal # DW05740-1 for the ground wire and the Self-Tapping Screw...

  • Fastest and Best Way to Connect Trailer Tail Light Wires
Using butt connectors such as # 05731-5 is probably the fastest way to connect wires. Using a heat shrink butt connector such as # DW05744-5 would be a better, longer lasting connection. The white ground wire will need to secure to the trailer frame using a self tapping screw like # FA1131822.

  • Is a Light Kit Required When Using a Cargo Carrier Like the Curt # C18153
Adding a tail light kit to a cargo carrier like the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18151 is a great idea for better visibility, but isn't required unless the cargo that you are carrying happens to cover your tail lights. If this is the case then I recommend using the Tail Light Kit # 98174LED, along with 2 Brackets # BK70BB using Self-Tapping Screws # FA1131822. This kit will plug into the 4-Way connector at the rear of your 2014 Honda Pilot. If you do not already have a 4-Way connector then...

  • What Screws Are Needed to Attach a Light to an Aluminum Frame
In order to attach the Command Electronics Dual LED Trailer Tail Light - Stop, Turn, Tail, Backup - Red and Clear Lens # CE86FR to an aluminum surface you will want to use either a stainless steel, aluminum, or zinc plated screw like part # FA1131822. This is going to ensure that you do not have any corrosion problems at the point of contact between the two metals. As aluminum is a rather soft metal, you should not have any issues using self-tapping screws. I also highly recommend you use...

  • How To Properly Ground The Wires On Electric Drum Brakes
Typically the ground wire would be connected to the frame of the trailer using ground screws like # FA1131822 and a ring terminal like part # DW05740-1. Using heat shrink is always recommended to help prevent corrosion. Connecting the ground to the axle technically would work, but the frame will be a much more secure location. You should be able to find a good clean spot on the frame and keep the grounds protected and out of the elements as much as possible.

  • Recommendation for Attaching Aluminum Diamond Plate Flooring to Utility Trailer
To attach the aluminum diamond plate to the floor of your utility trailer, you can use self-tapping screws like # FA1131822 or something longer depending on how thick the aluminum is. I recommend using one about every square foot if possible. These particular self-tapping screws are 1-1/4 inches long and have 1/4 inch - 14 x 3/4 inch long threads. If you will be attaching the diamond plate to the metal grate on your trailer, you will need some type of anchor or lag bolts.

  • How to Ground a License Plate Light
If you have ensured you have power to the light using a test light similar to the LCD Digital Circuit Tester part # PTW2992 then it has to be an issue with the ground. I have always liked making a ground if the original connection doesn't work. You can move it around a little and get contact but eventually it will fail again. • Hardware For Securing Trailer Stabilizer Jacks To The Trailer Frame
When installing a Scissor Stabilizer Jack # TJSC-24 you can use Self-Tapping Screw # FA1131822 to secure it to your frame. I have linked a video below that will show you the installation of these on a travel trailer frame. Since these jacks are only for stabilizing the trailer you do not need super heavy duty fasteners. The ones we have are 1/4" and you can use up to 5/16" with the outer holes in this stabilizer.

  • Trailer Warning Lights Flash in Vehicles Message Center
The trailer warning lights flashing in your message center sounds like either a ground issue on the trailer or a corrosion problem between the trailer connectors. It'll keep your battery charged, run an electric jack, or something along those lines. Not the end of the world if you don't have anything to run it to.
