Cost Effective Wiring To Install 7-Way For Curt Echo Controller on 2008 BMW X5 With Battery in Trunk
Question:
I am planning to use the Encore Wireless Brake Controller and wonder which 7 way connector I use buy? I am more leaning to the Curt 57672, instead of the ETBC7L, due to noticeable price difference. I know that the Curt 57672 doesnt come with 30Amp Circuit Breaker can you confirm it is 30 or 40 amps and extra 20foot wire. I am planning to buy a 30 amp fuse + holder and some wire separately as that seems like a cheaper solution. Since I have 2008 BMW X5, really dont need too much wire as the battery is at the rear side. Please comment and advice, whether this will work? Am I miss anything?

The Curt Trailer Connector Adapter part # C57672 can certainly be used to install a 7-Way on the 2008 BMW X5 to use the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller part # C51180 instead of the kit part #ETBC7L.
I recommend to use the Curt trailer connector part # C57672 and the Power Wire Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers part # BRK-ELECKIT because it has a shorter amount (10 feet) of 12 gauge wire since your battery is in rear cargo area. This kit also comes with all of the components and 30 amp circuit breaker that you need.
Please keep in mind you will need the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit part # 119250KIT to complete the install. The 4-pole connector will plug into the pigtail coming off of the Curt 7-Way adapter part # C57672 to power the trailer lights.
If you would still like to source the other components for the install locally, I have included a list of the parts you need for the install excluding the 7-way plug adapter and the 4-pole wiring:
2 Ground Hex screw #8 x 1/2"- # 101131802
1 1/4" -14 x 3/4" Self Tapping Screw- part # FA1131822

1- 12-10 ring terminal part # 44-5356A
1- 30 amp in-line circuit breaker part # 38630
1- 12-10 gauge heat shrink butt connector
cable zip ties part # DW05726-25
appropriate length of 12 Gauge power wire
