If Brake Wiring is Damaged do Trailer Brakes Need to be Changed Out

The trailer brake wires chewed off on axle. Can they be re wired or do you need new brakes?

If it's just the wiring that has been damaged then you only need to replace the brake wires. We recommend using 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 for the installation. Electric brake assemblies have 2 wires; 1 for power and 1 for ground. It doesn't matter which wire on the brake assembly is used for which function.

Should your ground connections be damaged as well then you can use the Ring Terminal # DW05740-1 for the ground wire and the Self-Tapping Screw # FA1131822 to secure it.
