Video Transcript for Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Parts - Roller and Bunk Parts - DL21712 Review

Today we're going to be looking at part number DL21712, this is the Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Keel Roller. Now, it's marketed as a 8 inch Keel roller. It's actually going to give us a measurement of about 7 1/2 inches. It's going to be made from a solid high grade rubber, so you don't have to worry about it scratching your boats. It's very strong and very durable. You can see that it has the V-shaped design.

It's black in color and it's designed to fit a 5/8 inch shaft, and that would go through the center area right here on the roller itself. That's going to do it for today's look on part number DL21712.

Dutton-Lainson 8" long keel roller for boat trailers.

by:

perfect replacement part on my 50 year old trailer.

by:

All of your products were of very good quality and fit perfectly the first time. Thank you for being genuine. I especially appreciate you selling Dutton Lainson products, as I grew up in Hastings, NE. They are a very good manufacturer.

by:

Keel rollers are an excellent match to OEM rollers. I needed a 9 7/8 shaft but 11" was as close as I could get. Also would prefer pins through the shafts than the caps.

  • Keel Roller Sizing for a 1989 Calkins Boat Trailer
If the brackets your rollers mount to are adjustable, then diameter would not matter as you could compensate with the bracket position. If the brackets are not adjustable, a half inch or so in diameter change would not matter. If you were to use rollers with a significant size difference, then the winch may improperly pull the boat on the trailer. You may be able to adjust your winch hook position on the boat to fix this. The 8 inch Dutton-Lainson Rollers you were looking at, part # DL21712,...

  • How to Remove a Pal Nut
A pal nut is not re-usable, so there is no need to be overly gentle when removing it. Simply grab the nut with a pair of pliers and bend it off. Once you apply a bit of pressure, the nut will bend which will allow you to easily remove it. We offer replacement pal nuts for a 5/8 inch roller shaft, part # CE10801.

  • What Are The Dimensions for a Dutton-Lainson Keel Roller
The Dutton-Lainson Keel Roller # DL21712 measurement on end is 3-1/2" and the middle measures at 2-1/2". I attached a video below that discusses the Keel Roller further.

  • How to Install Boat Keel Rollers When Replacing V Bunks on Trailer
It looks like you are on the right track. I would use the Universal Roller Brackets, # MBSPB, that you mentioned along with a 8 inch Long Keel Roller, # DL21712, a 5/8 inch Steel Shaft, and two pal nuts # CE10801. All of this is dependent on your trailer having and 8 inch area that the brackets can be installed in and adjusted for the roller to contact the keel of the boat. If you would like to send photos of the boat trailer, I would be glad to make a more specific recommendation.

  • 8 inch Keel Roller and Bracket Recommendation
Sounds like you are looking for the part # CE10403G. The slotted mounting holes would allow it to be mounted at various heights to match what your trailer needs. The slots of the bracket are 6 inches apart as well. I attached a review video for the roller for you to check out as well.

  • Bow Roller for 14 Foot Row Boat Trailer
The Dutton-Lainson Roller you referenced, part # DL21712 would work fine for you, but the Redline Bow Roller, part # 404800 would probably be a better fit. You would also need the mounting brackets, part # MBSPB and a shaft part # CE10727A.

  • Recommend Keel Roller Setup For 14 Foot Aluminum Boat
I would recommend using the Universal Roller Brackets, # MBSPB, this will mount near the front of the trailer. Then you can use the 8 Inch Keel Roller, # DL21712, and a 5/8 inch Steel Shaft like part # CE10727A that includes two pal nuts You will need to measure your trailer to see if you have space to mount the brackets. You will need an 8 inch area that the brackets can be installed in and adjusted for the roller to contact the keel of the boat.

  • Availability of 7-1/2-inch-long V-Shaped Replacement Keel Roller for Boat Trailer
My contact at Yates Rubber advises that a nominal 8-inch keel roller does not measure exactly 8 inches; typically they are slightly smaller than the specified size, much the way a piece of 2 x 4 lumber is not exactly 2-inches by 4-inches. I took measurements of several replacement rollers and confirmed that the 8-inch size generally measures 7-5/16 (just the roller itself) and 7-3/4 inches including the nylon bushings on each end. For example, the Dutton-Lainson # DL21712 is a nominal...
