Video Transcript for CE Smith Boat Trailer Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts Review

Hi there boat trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods. And this is what our replacement roller rod's going to look like. These are available in either two different diameters, whether it be five eighths, like we have here or half inch, you just want to match it up to your old one. And they're also available in varying lengths. So that way you can get the proper span for your particular trailer.

And all of them are zinc coated to protect them from rusting corrosion, which is very common on your boat trailers since you're pulling it in and out of the boat dock all the time, you're next to the Lake. They often get wet. So this way we can ensure that we're going to have long lasting operation of this rod, and it's not going to seize up inside of here due to rust and corrosion. Also included with it you'll receive cap nuts for each side of your rod. And these are nice because once you press them on there, they're pretty much a permanent fit, you have to really try to get them off of there. And since this is a roller, it doesn't ever really get forces side to side, but we don't want to use regular thread on nuts on something like this since it does roll.

That could potentially cause the nuts to back off. So this is an ideal solution. If your old keel roller or keel roller rod are worn out and need replacement, the replacement shaft here is going to be a great option for you because it's kind of a one use thing, unless you can get yourself some new cap nuts. And even if you do get new cabinets, if it's heavily corroded and worn down, those cap nuts may not fit as tight and as properly as they used to.So when replacing your keel roller, when it's wore out, I highly recommend also replacing the keel roller rod. The rod is going to be made of solid steel with a zinc coating.

So it's going to be extremely durable holding up the weight that is pressed down from the boat sitting on it there. And the zinc coat is going to protect it against rust and corrosion. If your keel roller is worn out. And that's why you're looking at getting replacements. We also carry the keel rollers here at etrailer.com.

So you can get a set up just like this. You can see how nice and smooth it is, and we've got a nice surface for our boat to rest on.Today we're going to be replacing the keel roller's shaft because our key roller's all damaged up and in order to get the roller off, we have to take the shaft out and the nuts typically get damaged and are not reusable. So we're just going to be replacing it all as an assembly. Start by removing our roller's nuts. We're just going to get behind it with a pair of pliers. We're just going to pop that cap off of there. inaudible 00:02:18. Our shaft will then slide out. We can remove our roller and then install our new components. We've got our shaft here and I find it easier to get one cap nut on first. So we're just going to set that on top and we're just going to hammer it into place. I'm going to use a rubber mallet just to help minimize how much dings I make on the little cap. And it's really that simple. And you can see here, there's no way I'm going to push this off. If I wanted to get this off of here, I would almost have to take another hammer and smash it off of there because you're just not going to be able to pull it off. Now we can just take our roller. We're going to set it into place. Slide our rod all the way through the roller, until it comes out on the other side. We'll then take our cap, we're going to set it into place. Now that we got it just barely started. We're going to finish tapping it on. I'm going to use a hammer on the other side, because it might hurt your hip or something else if you're holding it. And we can see our shaft spins, our roller spins and it's nice and solid, it's not going anywhere. Thought you need a hatchet. And that completes our look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods.

The 13" shaft seems to be the right length for the 12" rollers I got; it may actually be a bit longer than 13" which is great

by:

Fit the panel bracket perfectly.

by:

Great Service and product easily instal led.

by:

Check the shaft length on your trailer before ordering. My old shaft was longer. The new one bearly had space for the pal nuts. Had to bend the roller brackets to make it fit..

by:

Receive shipment earlier than expected at a competitive price

by:

Items are perfect and shipping time was super fast. 100% satisfied.

by:

I recently purchased two Yates keel rollers , one 12" and one 8".... Was very please with the price , shipping , and the products I received !!! Will be happy to order from you guys again.

Thanks

by:

box came destroyed, OPEN, the axle appears to have been STUFFED in the box causing it to lose intergrity. One of the ubolts boxes was open missing nuts.

etrailer has good products but poor follow up. Had similar issue, they said just go buy one. I already bought one, they didn't send it.

by:

thank you for your prompness

by:

etrailer.com...use the best forget about the rest...

by:

First time ordering roller parts and things turned out just right.

by:

Roller was fine but the shaft was about 1/4 of an inch to short. Unable to get one end cap on as a result. Needed to use old roller shaft as temporary fix. Disappointed.

by:

Everything I expected.

by:

the products were delivered before promised time and were the right fit,
jessica was very helpful and i would not hesiitate to use etrailers again

by:

Good so far, we'll see how they hold up.

by:

I ordered the roller shaft for my salt water bay boat. The shaft itself is fine, but the PAL nuts do not feel or appear to take the riggers of salt water. Believe I will be replacing it in a year or so. I will look for a stainless steel pin with cotter key.

by:

All the products I've purchased from each trailer have been excellent high quality

by:

Overall it's fine but the package was bent (apparently to fit in the box) and cracked open and one of the nuts is missing.
Shipping was timely.

by:

Hi quality for a great price. Overhauled my Boat Trailer rollers, bearings, bunks, wiring and more. I usually shop parts like this on Ebay, Amazon...etc..
Etrailer beat all of their prices, and with free shipping on my $99+ order, the deal got even sweeter. Got my parts in 3 days and had the job done in the next 2 days. All parts fit perfectly and my trailer is like new.
This is my second order from etrailer. As we all know it's "always something" with anything marine related. They have earned my business. Thanks..!!

by:

Parts where exactly as described. The shipping was crazy fast.
I would do business with them anytime.

by:

These shafts along with the rollers I purchased should be perfect for my project.

by:

All ítem ordered fit as specified. Satisfied customer!

by:

I ordered on Tuesday evening and received what I ordered on Friday morning. Used a band saw to cut off 1/4 inch of the 13" shaft due to my original shafts on my 1994 ProCraft Trailer having 12 3/4" shafts. I'll just have to see if the new rollers last as long as the original rollers, which were also Yates rollers. Representative on the phone was very pleasant to talk to.

  • What Hardware Is Needed To Mount CE Smith Panel Bracket CE10305G For 12" Keel Roller?
To mount the CE Smith Panel Bracket for 12" Boat Trailer Rollers - Galvanized Steel # CE10305G you were looking at you have two options. The first being welding the bracket to your trailer. If you go this route you need to make sure to sand off the galvanized coating as it gives off a harmful gas when it is welded. The second and more common option is using U-bolts. The U-bolts will need to match the size of the frame on your trailer so you will need to measure that. For example we have...

  • Mounting Boat Trailer Bunk Boards to Vertical Bunk Boards that Tilt
I like the idea of using a shaft and pal nuts. That way there is less of a chance of it binding up like what might happen if you used regular nuts and bolts. You would have to make sure the shaft has the capacity for the load that you are going to put on it. A shaft like # CE10727A as an example is a solid steel bar, 5/8 inches in diameter and while it does not have an official capacity it would be very sturdy. I have included a link to the other shafts we carry.

This is the strongest keel roller they offer. While I obviously cannot give you any type of guarantee that your drill press will allow you to drill 1/8 inch holes in the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts # CE10727A, it is certainly practical to believe that you should be able to do it. We had a customer report to us that they used a band saw to trim a bit of length off the shaft, and while it isn't an apples to apples comparison, it does speak to the fact that it is reasonable to assume a decent drill press will allow you to drill through it.
