Carry a spare tire for your truck, van, or SUV while still using your hitch for mounting accessories. The sturdy Roadmaster spare tire carrier holds all wheels with a lug nut circle up to 7", including dually and deep dish style.

Features:

  • Sturdy spare tire carrier holds a spare tire for your truck, van, or SUV
    • 2" Receiver hitch allows you to simultaneously connect a tow bar, bike rack, or other hitch-mounted accessory
    • Carrier designed to work with dually and deep dish offset style wheels
  • Carrier pivots down to the ground for ease of use and access to rear compartments or engine
    • Spring-loaded handle makes it easy to pivot carrier down and secure it back in place
  • 2 Separate pin holes let you change the length of the shank
  • Built-in safety cable connection tabs allow for quick hook-up and release
  • Anti-rattle hitch pin secures carrier to RV's hitch and helps to eliminate rattle and play in the connection
  • Black powder coated steel is durable and corrosion resistant

MountingDimensionShank Dimensions

Notes:

  • This Roadmaster spare tire carrier is only to be used for flat towing a vehicle or carrying a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier.
  • Do not use the spare tire carrier if any part of the pin hole on the carrier's receiver is over the lip of your RV's trailer hitch receiver. This can cause the shank of the spare tire carrier to break at that point
    • Measure the distance from the center of your hitch pin hole rearward until you reach the furthest points of the receiver tube. If this distance is between 3-3/16" and 3-13/16", you would not want to use the spare tire carrier
  • Use of this spare tire carrier reduces the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 33 percent.
Measurement

The Roadmaster spare tire carrier not only gives you extra room inside your RV by letting you mount your spare tire on the back, but it also provides a 2" hitch extension that lets you mount a tow bar or other hitch-mounted accessories. Flat tow your car or attach your bike rack or a cargo carrier for even more storage for your trip.

Mounting and Loading the Spare Tire Carrier

The Roadmaster spare tire carrier will make a great addition to your RV. This easy-to-use carrier simply slides into your 2" x 2" trailer hitch receiver. Just line up the holes on the carrier and the receiver and thread in the included anti-rattle hitch pin to secure the carrier to your RV.

Once the carrier is mounted in your hitch you can remove the safety bolt on the carrier's mast, pull the spring-loaded handle on the rear of the carrier, and pivot the carrier to either side and down to the ground.

Once the carrier is resting on the ground, you can mount your spare tire. Just roll the spare over to the carrier and align the 2 lug holes in the wheel that are most opposite each other with the corresponding slots in the wheel mount. The lug nut matrix design of the spare tire carrier fits all bolt hole patterns on 16" - 24-1/2" wheels.

Lever Moves to SideExtending Lever

Before lifting up the spare tire carrier, pull out the lever bar and secure it to the carrier mast in the extended position using the included safety pin. Then use the extension lever to raise the carrier up to the vertical position. Once the release handle locks back into place, secure the spare tire carrier with the safety bolt before driving.

On The Ground

When loaded, the spare tire carrier is still easy to lower and raise. The extension lever allows for better control of the carrier as it is being maneuvered. Lowering your carrier, loaded or unloaded, will allow access to your RV's rear compartments without having to take off your spare tire or the carrier.

Great product, more security carrying spare tire with us. Very strong and quality made.

I've used the Roadmaster Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier for the last year (2023) and have put over 7500 miles on it. The carrier has performed seamlessly and is still manageable when mounted 40 plus inches off the ground. I have it attached to a Torklift 5' extension that goes into a 3" receiver welded into my flatbed. To prevent bouncing I've had Torklift put in a support bracket from the lower(regular) receiver. No bounce!

Well built and heavy duty product. I built a front bumper for our 98 Safari Sahara 3006 and incorporated a receiver hitch for the spare tire carrier. Needless to say a 22.5 truck tire and steel wheel is heavy- running in excess of 160 lbs. I did do a bit of modifiying in that I drilled a couple of extra holes in order mount the the wheel/tire lower down on the swing post than the stock slots would allow. I used heavy duty antirattle reciever hitch u-bolts from CZC Auto ([online vendor]) that just happen to be the right size and to catch two lug holes with heavy fender washers. I did have to grind a small clearance spot to clear the release pull handle as these bolts are 1/2 inch in diameter. With the assembly lower down it gives a bit more leverage which is a big deal for this 70 year old arthritic body, but I can get it up and latched. Lowering is a piece of cake. I also put an antirattle u-bolt on the receiver for the whole unit and everything is super solid. I'm quite happy with this setup.

I bought a new 2018 Class C Motorhome that came without a spare tire. I added a tire pressure monitoring system and traveled with the hope that I wouldn't have a flat tire out in the sticks, where it would be difficult to get help. I got home from a long trip last summer, and a rear tire went flat in my driveway. My travel club memberships gave me a lot of trouble about helping me, since I didn't have a spare! Good thing I was home, so I could change it myself. I decided that I needed a spare tire carrier, so I wouldn't be stuck. I bought a spare wheel and tire, and then I bought this carrier. It is great. It's very heavy duty, but light enough to put on and take off for each trip. All of the hardware was included. I highly recommend this product and have told all of my friends about it for their motorhomes. I would buy this product again in a heartbeat.

I’ve owned and used it for over a year, and it is working out great. I use it on every trip. I wouldn’t travel without it!

The Roadmaster tire carrier arrived as was predicted by UPS. On a rainy day my RV was in the driveway so my UPS driver slid the package under the back of the RV to keep it out of the rain. Shout out to our UPS driver.
All parts accounted for and it went together smoothly. All of the tools were spelled out in the instructions. A couple of the sockets should have been listed as “long” sockets. Anyways, easy assembly. Tire mounted to the plate with ease (19.5” wheel). Very heavy wheel / tire combo but the lift with the rod on the carrier is effortless. I mounted the bike rack behind the wheel and it fits perfect.

Excellent spare tire and bike carrier.

by:

This tire carrier is a beast! I have a 1999 Georgie Boy Cruise Master the tire was stored under the bed behind the water tank for 20 years. The tire ways almost 100 pounds that makes it quite awkward to get at. So I bought this hitch mounted tire carrier. It installed so easy the instructions where good but instead of hold the tire mount up and sliding the mounting hardware thew the hole i lade it on its side with the poll extended made so much easier then balancing it up right. I love it my tire is right there When / IF I need it .
The only con I see is that the tow hitch is 2 inches lower now and it extends foot farther than my ladder but it would have to for the easy swing to put the tire down to the ground.

Fantastic! So easy that even my wife can get that big heavy tire down &amp off easily

by:

Installed the carrier on my Leisure Unity motor home. Has adequate clearance to back of motor home. Roadmaster was extremely helpful in supplying drawings and needed information. Seems to be very stable and easy to install or remove spare tire. A bit limited in ground clearance but carrier design and manufacture are excellent.
Would be great if Roadmaster included a method to relocate license plate. I used a mount from RockHard 4X4. Very pleased with the final installation.

Holding up great. Haven’t needed to remove tire and hopefully never will! Definitely recommend carrier. Well made, strong ang holding up well. Only drawback is receiver tube is lower to ground and will drag if not careful to avoid dips.

by:

Roadmaster spare tire carrier worked great as advertised thank you once again etrailer.

by:

I'm very pleased with my Roadmaster spare tire carrier. It has a heavyduty construction and works very well. I had to change a tire a few months ago and found the carrier is designed very well and facilitates easy removal of the spare tire.

David D.

11/13/2023

Great! I had to do a tire change on a trip and the carrier was easy to use. Dismounting the spare and remounting the flat for transport was convienient and relatively easy.

by:

I’ve had this spare tire carrier on my motorhome for over a year now and I’m completely satisfied with this roadmaster product. Being able to carry a spare tire traveling across the country gives me a great sense of security. I would highly recommend this product.

Working great, no issues and holding up well

by:

Love this tire rack. We tried a few other options first, hoping to save money but this was the best solution and is perfect for our needs. The tire is securely installed and our bike rack fits into it with no hitch extender required. Definitely recommend this tire rack!

Now I have a spare tire with me for my Trek motor home that it never had before. Thanks to the Road Master hitch mounted spare tire carrier I can do much more. At 70 plus I can install and remove the tire and wheel from the carrier. I will soon be flat towing my Jeep Wrangler with the hitch receiver built into this carrier. It’s well built and heavy duty enough to attach 2 E-bikes on a tilting double bike rack. When I start towing the Jeep the bike rack and E-Bikes will go on the rear of the Jeep. Take all my toys with me. Thanks etrailer and Road Master for the quality product.

I am now flat towing my Jeep Wrangler and could not be happier with the spare tire carrier. Hitch is working out great. Have been on many long and short trips and with not 1 problem with this set up.. Great Product.. Just remember to release the e-brake on your Jeep before you toe.

Bill H.

1/9/2022

I now flat tow by my Jeep Wrangler and every thing works great. I have been in many short and long trips and the tire carrier and hitch have performed with out any problems. Just remember to release the e-brake on your Jeep before you tow. Thanks again etrailer and Road Master for such a quality product.

by:

Solid built product. Since many of the new motorhomes don't have spare tires this is the way to go. Makes it easy to check air in spare. I highly recommend and be sure to order from etrailer.com! Price can't be beat. While you're at it, be sure to order a tire cover. Got mine at Tirecoverpro.com.

Great, no issues.

by:

It’s been road tested. Works ok. The drawbacks include it’s a little difficult squaring up the bolts through rim and the frame of device. Also it weighs a lot. It would be better if it were made out of aluminum. And I can’t get my rear cargo doors open on my Sprinter. I gave up that advantage instead of getting the more expensive Aluminess device. It just is a little shy of clearing the device.

Paul V.

12/5/2020

Its still on the back of my Sprinter. Works well. Im considering getting a different tire carrier. But again, its about 800$. So I keep going on with this. I have an Aris bike rack that fits into the hitch thats on the tire carrie..so far so good.

by:

This is my first purchase from etrailer and I was surprised at how fast I received it and by the great service. The roadmaster spare tire carrier will definitely make handling my 19.5 in spare a lot easier. The only thing that would make dealing with them better would be free shipping from a canadian wharehouse. I will definitely be using etrailer again.

I have used the roadmaster carrier last summer on my super C motorhome and am very satisfied with it,We pull a riverboat or an enclosed trailer and the roadmaster spare tire carrier never interfered with the rv’s towing capacity. It definitely saves on the back when having to load the spare tire.

by:

The product has held up well, we haven't needed the spare tire it's carrying yet, but it's there when we need it. The handle and hinge make it fairly easy to handle the weight of a large RV tire. It still takes some muscle, but nothing like lifting the tire up would be.
However, we carry a 19.5" steel RV wheel and tire on it, and it's all together it's pretty heavy, perhaps 200lb, total. Our Hidden Hitch receiver ( custom to our Holiday Rambler ) was rated for 500lb of tongue weight, but this broke it in just 2000 miles of driving. This forced us to load the tire into our towed car and drive it separately from the RV for 500 miles to get to a welder that built us a brand new $1000 hitch receiver.

If you use one of these, keep an eye on it and be sure your receiver is up to the task of carrying the weight. Measure the distance between this and the back of the RV and if it starts to sag, get the receiver looked at ASAP.

by:

I was able to put it together very quickly.
It goes well with our Class C.
The spare tire was bolted under the camper and this spare tire hitch will make it much easier to get the tire out if ever I need the spare tire.

Jesse

It workout great. Fits on my camper.

by:

This tire carrier is working beautifully on our motorhome--our spare had been in a slide compartment, under the bed, and I wanted to use that area for storage. It was easy to assemble and install and is built like a tank. It looks good and tows our Jeep Wranger Unlimited with no problems. We had the (unfortunate) opportunity to put it to the test in December. Blew a tire, called AAA RV Plus, and I had the spare down, off the carrier, and ready for the repairman when he arrived. I highly recommend this carrier if you're looking to conveniently carry a spare.

This is a Perfect Solution to carrying a Mounted Spare Tire.

@Robert That's great to hear! We're glad your # RM-195225 Roadmaster spare tire carrier is working well for you.

by:

I installed carrier on our 2019 Greyhawk 31FSP motorhome. We wanted to have a spare tire available if the need arises on extended road trips. The Roadmaster unit will hold the spare and allow us to flat tow our TJ Wrangler. The carrier is well made. Welds look good and the finish is excellent. I followed the detailed instructions and everything went together nicely. Etrailer shipped the carrier quickly and it arrived two days after order placement. Packaging was very good. I'm very pleased with purchase.
P.S. I'm adding tire to wheel shown in a couple of weeks.

by:

The Roadmaster spare tire carrier is well engineered and constructed. Instructions were easy to follow, and the installation was relatively smooth. You do need several socket sizes which may not be in everyones toolbox though. The carrier is expensive, but being able to carry a spare and to easily remove it from the carrier when needed is worth the expense in my opinion.

by:

Receiver extension won’t fit into female 2” aft female receiver. Poor welding or jig. Ford Transit will not allow doors to open. Need to take off tire and 195225 hitch. Very heavy. Need two people be aware before you buy

by:

Since I installed the spare tire carrier on our Motorhome has not left our yard. It looks great but I don’t have experience yet with accessing our rear engine. Having a spare tire dose provide piece of mind.

Gary

3/24/2023

Still doing its job. Our RV roadside service will be happy to put on a spare tire but they don’t repair the flat. It is very comforting to know we are prepared in case of a flat. Anyone who owns an RV knows the freedom of the open road comes at a price. There are many things to rememberworry about from having enough sewer hose and connectdisconnect properly to remembering to crank down your antenna. So many things! Not worrying about being stuck in the middle of east tooly weeds with out a spare is one less thing to think about and that adds to the joy and freedom of RVing.

by:

I received the spare tire carrier and was VERY pleased at the packing inside the shipping container. No scratches or damaged items! Assembled the carrier on the back of the RV within 15 minutes...excellent instructions! My only concern is the amount of space between the RV and the spare tire.
