Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I received the wheels, Spindles and bearings. I did not receive the Hubs. I received Tandem-Axle Hangers Item H248 instead. I've attached a photo of what I received. Please advise next steps to get the two hubs, Items AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K TRAILER IDLER HUB ASSEMBLY 2000 LB AXLES- 4 ON 4 GALVANIZED. Shipping was great and the parts I did receive look to be very good quality. Thank you

My goodness, that was definitely a mistake on our part. Customer Service will be touch so that we can have the hubs shipped out for you.

by:

Parts fit perfect. I just wish the kit included a cotter pin.
The old hubs were frozen in place and the grease inside was completely dried, including the bearings. I opted to replace entire hub as I new I would damage something trying to get the old races out of the old hubs. Clean up the spindles and proceed with the install. It was fast and easy.

by:

I thought the hubs and bearings looked good and the install went OK. Took the boat out for one fishing trip and get back home to see both sides are trashed. The left side completely pushed my bearing buddy out and looks like it may have been riding on the axle spindle. I don't know if the outer races weren't completely seated in the hub when they were shipped or if the bearings are absolute junk. If they are going to ship the hubs with the races pre-installed they should be seated properly if you ask me.

by:

Great fit, great customer service.

by:

Just as described. Nicely packaged. Quality parts at a great price. It would be nice if a cotter pin was included. Because if your not a mechanic like me and have some. You are going to have to make a trip to the parts store to complete your project. Other than that I highly recommend getting your parts here. I used these hub to convert a log splitter to a hub and wheel assembly instead of the one piece. Worked perfectly.

by:

Great replacement for Hobie Kayak trailer used in saltwater... hubs look like they will hold up better being galvanized. Great bearing and seal replacement.... great fit.

Shipping was very fast and parts were spot on.

by:

I thought this came pre assembled but it did not

by:

Perfect fut!!! Got our bow fishing boast ready to hit the water!!

by:

Parts arrived as shown and were easily installed. They were used on my boat trailer so the galvanized hubs were a perfect fit. Etrailer is easy to work with and communicates the progress of your order via email.

by:

I should have known but I didn't read reviews. No Cotter pin! That is such an easy thing to add but they don't. It requires a trip to the store making this a pain in the rear. Would be a cool bonus to add a new nut as well. I think the instructions are not very in depth either but still a good product.

by:

Hubs look good. No problems.

by:

Good part. Unfortunately the grease seals didn't hold up. Need to replace them.

by:

Had a strange hub that used lug studs and one of the threads stripped. This item was cheap, shipped quick, and put my utility trailer back in service. No complaints, would buy again.

by:

As always e.trailer delivered quickly and everything was well packaged. I've been using e.trailer a lot recently and they are on top of their game.

by:

Seems in this day and age something always comes up. Not with thease hubs and bearings. Everything was as described and fit like a glove. I'm really looking forward to getting my boat out now.

by:

Great price. However, after tightening the bearings down so the wheel moves freely, there seems to be a little bit of a grinding noise. If I loosen it too much, then there's some wobble in the hub. Will know the next time I take the boat out. If I hear any grinding and if the hub gets warm, we'll have to contact customer service. For the price, if I get 2 years out of the bearings I'd be happy. I would have preferred a better bearings that were smooth, maybe higher quality like a timken.

by:

Made my conversion easy

You can’t beat Etrailer for service and availability of parts.

by:

Excellent hub for my utility trailer at a most reasonable price. Shipped quickly, seems to be a quality hub!

by:

Good hub, good price. Purchased for a vintage Alloy brand boat trailer. Perfect replacement . Matches the hub on the other side which I purchased from Etrailer some years ago. Nice to have this stability in the products offered. The only addition I made was to also order a double lipped grease seal at the time of purchase, since this is a boat trailer application.

After a year of service, hub is working fine. The double lipped grease seals I added are also doing their job. No complaints!

by:

I purchased this a pair of these hubs for my huskee 20 ton log splitter. I got tired of taking the bearings out when I needed to fix a flat or replace the tire. Kit included everything listed and I got replacement cotter pins from the local hardware store. The upgrade was easier than expected with everything fitting right down to the rear bearing seal!!

I purchased 2 tires and rims (item number AM30040) to match up to the new hubs. They are OEM tires and an upgrade to load rating that originally came with the splitter.

I would highly recommend this upgrade! product came nicely boxed up and came a few days earlier than expected.

one star taken off rating because I don't know how long they will last but they are excellent so far

by:

The packing job was as bad as it gets. Spindles, hubs, and a tin of grease just chucked into the middle of the box between two wheels without a care in the world. That level of "I don't give a $#!+" from the warehouse crew is highly irritating. Otherwise would have left a better review as the products and service from etrailer are usually quite good. All it takes is for one link in the chain to break and it ruins the whole experience.

  • What is the Difference Between Trailer Hubs # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K and # AKIHUB-440-2-G-2K
The two hubs you mentioned, # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K and # AKIHUB-440-2-G-2K fit different spindles. More specifically they use different bearings and seals. First, hub # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K uses L44643, with a 1 inch inner diameter, as the inner and outer bearing, and the seal is a 34823, which has an inner diameter of 1.249 inches and outer diameter of 1.983 inches. Based on your information this sounds like the correct replacement. Check your old bearing numbers or you can take measurements...

  • Will Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles Fit Log Splitter
The Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K will fit the spindles on your log splitter, and allow you to tighten down the castle nut so your cotter pin fits. These use # L44643 bearings with a 1" inner diameter and have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. If you need 5 on 4-1/2 instead you can use the # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-1K.

  • Hub with 4 Lug Bolt Pattern that Uses Bearing Numbers L44649
The two bearings you mentioned have different inner diameters. The # L44643 has an inner diameter that is exactly 1 inch and the # L44649 is 1.06 inch. This may not seem like a lot but it's a big enough difference to prevent the hub you have now from fitting your spindle (you may already know this). The seals are slightly different diameters too. Since you wouldn't be able to swap out the bearings of your current hub to the correct size you need (the hub won't match), the only solution...

  • How to Determine Which Replacement Hubs for a 2000 Flying Scot Trailex Boat Trailer
Unfortunately, we aren't able to look up the hubs used by a particular make and model trailer, although I sure wish would could as it would make life a lot easier! The good news is that it's pretty simple to determine which hubs you need. The easiest way to determine which replacement hubs would be needed would be to pull one of the hubs and get the reference number engraved/stamped/etched onto the side of the cages that hold the roller bearings. For a smaller trailer like yours, you...

  • Replacement Hubs with 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern for 1" Non-Tapered Spindle on Boat Trailer with 12" Wheels
A non-tapered spindle with a 1.00" diameter will use an # L44643 inner and outer bearing, so you'll want to use the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 4 on 4 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K, which have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern and work with 12" wheels. These hubs are galvanized so they're ideal for boat trailers, have a 2000-lbs capacity and are the only available capacity that will fit on those spindles. I've linked a short review video of these for you to have a look at.

  • Can a 5-Lug Trailer Hub Replace a 4-Lug if the Bearings and Seals are the Same
Yes, you can go with hub # AKIHUB-545-2-G-1K since it uses the same bearings and seal size as your regular hub # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K. Keep in mind that you will also have to switch to wheels with the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. I would assume you are wanting to go with 12 inch tires which is the largest either of these hubs can take. I have included a link to all of the wheel and tire and wheel combos we have in the 12 inch size with 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern.

  • Replacement 4 Bolt Idler Hub For 1" Spindle
Based on the measurements of your spindle you provided the most likely replacement hub is the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K which uses Inner and Outer Bearing # L44643 which is 1" I.D and uses the 4 on 4 bolt pattern. The reason I say most likely is that the most common 4 lug bolt pattern is 4 on 4, but there is a 4 on 5 option. To confirm your bolt pattern you will need to measure the distance between the holes in your wheels according to the article...

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Trailer Hub for 1-1/4 Inch Diameter Spindle
So there are only a couple ways to definitively know what replacement hub you need, and this is based on a bit of necessary information.
