How to Determine Which Replacement Hubs for a 2000 Flying Scot Trailex Boat Trailer

Dear Etrailer, I am thinking about replacing the hubs on my year 2000 Trailex Flying Scot aluminum trailer. Boat and trailer weigh about 1250 pounds. Do you alll have the spindle size speficiation for that trailer or should I measure it Thank you

Unfortunately, we aren't able to look up the hubs used by a particular make and model trailer, although I sure wish would could as it would make life a lot easier! The good news is that it's pretty simple to determine which hubs you need.

The easiest way to determine which replacement hubs would be needed would be to pull one of the hubs and get the reference number engraved/stamped/etched onto the side of the cages that hold the roller bearings.

For a smaller trailer like yours, you should have a straight spindle, which uses the same inner and outer bearing which should be either L44649 or L44643. If there isn't a reference number stamped on the bearing, you can take a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 and measure the inside diameter of the bearing (a tape measure or ruler wouldn't be accurate enough). If the inside diameter is 1 inch exactly, you have L44643 bearings. If it's 1.063 inches, you have L44649 bearings.

You'll also need to match the hub's bolt pattern to that of your wheels, and because you have a boat trailer, galvanized hubs would be the way to go because of the additional corrosion resistance they offer.

If you have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern with the L44643 bearings, I'd recommend part # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K. If you have the L44643 bearings with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern, use # AKIHUB-545-2-G-1K.

If you have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern with the L44649 bearings, use # AKIHUB-440-2-G-2K. For a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern with the L44649 bearings, use # AKIHUB-545-2-G-2K.

All 4 hub assemblies mentioned above include the inner and outer bearings, races, the grease seal, the grease cap and lug nuts.
