Cutaway views of the ball mount shank showing the polyurethane cushioning

Convert-A-Ball ball mounts are designed with a polyurethane interior that helps to absorb road shock to limit bouncing and vibration while you tow over rough terrain. It also reduces the slamming and banging that occurs during stops and starts. This helps to protect your vehicle's driveline, your hitch assembly, and your trailer's contents while you're towing.

Very useful for adding tie down points. Only reason for not giving 5 stars was the need to cut off the extra length and drill new holes farther up for the pins so the units fit better.

by:

Been using this shock absorbing hitch for over a year now. The finish is still good, no rusting, and it has become my favorite hitch insert for heavy trailers

by:

A dealer in Post Falls, Idaho told me about you when I bought my tailer there. I actually bought several mounting accessories from you at the time. I do not want to be wrong about trailering. You have the best quality online. Thanks.

by:

These cushioned ball mounts work perfectly. I had a 2" drop version that I used for a couple years. Purchased this 4" drop due to trailer height adjustment.

This unit continues to work perfectly. It connects our car hauler trailer to our motorhome and gets about 10,000 miles a year of usage

by:

I like the “no bang and jerk “ you have with solid hitches-should be easier on the pin and hole

Hauled 12 loads~6 yards ea with bumper pull gravel trailer-worked great-no noticeable wear

by:

This is the second hitch I own. Previously, bought the 2 inch drop and I wanted the 4 inch drop. The hitch works great!

by:

Great piece of hardware. Used it last summer towing about 7500 pounds. I was not worried using this hitch.

by:

Fantastic! I've used these before with lighter truck/trailer combos, but the difference with a heavier truck and trailer is even more amazing compared to a non-cushioned ball mount.

by:

We use this to pull our 20' cargo trailer. We made 7 trips from northern Arizona to western Kansas and it is holding up great.

by:

I just received my ball mount receiver and ball. Great looking product. I'm excited to see how the cushion works. Torqueing the ball to 450ft lbs. was fun!!!

by:

Heavy duty.

by:

This was my second order from Etrailer. I am very pleased with the quality of this product it appears to be built very well. etrailer came through once again and got my order to me very quickly. Once I tow my 10000lb car hauler I will add to the review.

by:

I upgraded to this as I have just bought a 14,000 # dump trailer.

by:

Product was available here at a better price than another source. Shipping was quick.

by:

This is a very good quality drop hitch!

by:

Fast delivery, very good heavy duty 4" drop hitch

by:

This receiver is built like a tank !!

  • Which Hitch Ball is Better, the Curt or the Draw-Tite?
Both the Draw-Tite item # 63836 and the Curt item # C40030 will work with the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount item # AMSC4HD. The 1/8" difference in shank length will not affect the function of the hitch ball. I recommend the Curt item # C40030 because it has a slightly higher capacity and it will save you some money.

  • Availability of Ball Mount with 4 inch Drop, 2-3/4 inch Rise and 10 inch Length
We have the Convert-a-ball Ball Mount part # AMSC4HD which has a drop of 4 inch, a rise of 2-3/4 inch and an overall length of 10 inches from hitch pin hole to ball mount hole center. If you wanted something more budget priced that is instead 9 inches long we have the # 2753.

  • Which Provides More Cushioning from Ball Mount Convert-A-Ball Vs Curt Rebellion XD
The Convert a Ball ball mounts like the # AMSC4HD and the Curt Rebellion XD # part # C45949-2516 offer cushioning in a similar way (front to back cushioning) but the Curt Rebellion is going to offer superior cushioning to the Convert a Ball. The reason I say this is because most of the time your ball mount would not be free to move enough for the cushioning to be effective since the tongue weight of the trailer on the ball mount prevents movement where it would be needed. With the Rebellion...

  • Will a Cushioned Ball Mount Work with Surge Trailer Brakes
The cushion inside of the Convert-A-Ball cushioned ball mount # AMSC4 would have only a slight affect on the surge coupler on your trailer. You may not even notice it. The cushion is very dense and the more pressure that is put on it the firmer it gets. It would take more force to compress that cushion than to actuate the surge coupler. Cushioned ball mount # AMSC4 has a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop but there are other options if you need a different rise or drop to tow the trailer level: #...

  • Minimum Rise for Convert-A-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount CAB-UM
The minimum rise for adjustable ball mount # CAB-UM is approximately 2-1/2 inches. But unless you tow multiple trailers and need the adjustability of this ball mount I recommend a fixed ball mount with between 2 and 3 inches of rise. Covert-A-Ball has # AMSC4HD or # AMSC4, both with a 2-3/4 inch rise, if you want a cushioned ball mount. If the ball mount does not have to be cushioned we have # C45155 which comes with a 2 inch ball installed and with a 2-1/4 inch rise. The ball is not...

  • How to Pick Out Ball Mount for 2014 Toyota Sienna Towing Boat Trailer
I wasn't able to find the coupler height of the trailer you are interested in so your best option would be to contact who you are buying it from and have them measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler lip with the trailer level. When we installed the Draw Tite # 76112 on a 2014 Toyota Sienna like yours we found that it measured 12 inches from the ground to the top of the hitch opening. If you compare that 12 inch figure to the coupler height you get for your trailer you'll be...

  • Recommended Cushioned Ball Mount That is 10 Long and 4 Of Drop
We do have a cushioned ball mount with 4" of drop and 10 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole with part # AMSC4HD. I have attached a very helpful video for your reference. This ball mount is rated at 14,000 lbs and has a shock absorbing center to help with bouncing and chucking. For a 2-5/16" hitch ball you can use part # 19286 with the ball mount.

  • Measuring for a Ball Mount with the Right Rise or Drop for a 2008 Chrysler Aspen
Ideally you would measure for the amount of drop needed in a ball mount with the 2008 Chrysler Aspen loaded because it will be closer to the actual towing situation. Since the vehicle is sagging with gear loaded in it, it is going to sag even more then the trailer is coupled because of the tongue weight of the trailer. What I recommend is weight distribution so that the vehicle does not sag and will provide you will better braking, steering, and visibility. To choose a weight distribution...

  • 14k Capacity Ball Mount Options
The ball mount part # AMSC4HD has a 14k capacity and is designed to fit a 2 inch hitch. This ball mount has a 2-3/4" Rise/ 4" Drop. For a hitch ball you would want the part # 63836 as it has a 14k capacity as well and is a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. Or for an adjustable ball mount that can do various rises/drops you would want the part # AM3298. I attached a help article on how to pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount as well.

  • Is it Okay to Use Cushioned Ball Mount with More Capacity than Needed
It really doesn't hurt to have a ball mount with more capacity than needed. If anything it's just added insurance that the ball mount wouldn't fail. For 14k capacity cushioned ball mounts we have the part # AMSC2HD which has a 2 inch drop, part # AMSC4HD which has a 4 inch drop and part # AMSC6HD which has a 6 inch drop.
