Longer Ball Mount for 2019 GMC Acadia so Liftgate Clears Trailer

Question:

I need a receiver hitch that allows me to open my tailgate while the trailer is hooked up. My current receiver hitch only allows the tailgate to open only when the tow vehicle and trailer are perfectly aligned straight scary close on the clearance. It also needs to be able to raise the trailer 2 inches. Thanks, Bill

How much more clearance is needed? A standard ball mount usually measures between 8 and 9 inches long, measured from the hitch pin hole to the hole where the ball is installed. There are some longer fixed mounts available, the Curt # C45270 is 13 inches long which would provide 4 to 5 more inches than what you likely have now. A longer model is available, part # BM20, but that ball mount would only offer a 3/4-inch rise.

You could go with an adjustable ball mount like the Curt # D900, which provides 15-1/4 inches between the hitch pin hole and the hole where the ball attaches.

These are the longest ball mounts offered that would provide the 2 inch rise you're needing. A hitch extender like # HE06 would be an option that would add 7-3/8 inches to your existing ball mount but using an extender will lower the hitch capacity by half.

If you'd care to reply with the actual length you needed, I'd be happy to look further.
