Perfect fit to extend the hitch to allow my bike rack to clear the back bumper. Great quality as well.

by:

This hitch extension was exactly what I needed. New hitch on the Toyota Avalon has the receiver box a little too far under the bumper to fit my bike carrier. The diagonal support on the carrier didn't allow hitch pins to align without modifying (cutting) bumper. This extension was a simple yet effective solution to moving the carrier away from rear of vehicle. (Photos were taken without hitch pin in place) The item was in stock and shipped rapidly. Thank you etrailer.

All is good after a years use of the hitch extender. Im using a locking pin to mate the bike carrier and hitch extender together making them work as a single unit. Works perfect.

Was a little loose in hitch and rattles. Haven't found the perfect thing to put around it to stabilize. Works good though

This type of U-Bolt anti-rattle device is my favorite to use: item # RM-061-125.

very good

by:

The extender fits well, but my bike rake now has more wobble than I'd like. So... I guess the fit isn't quite good enough. Does etrailer have any experience w/ this? Are there shims available that could reduce the wobble?

The extender is going to rattle as there are multiple attachment spots now. You can add an anti-rattle device like item # RM-061-125. Please note that hitch extenders diminish your weight capacity by 50.

by:

Worked like it should. I bought this so my bike rack (Thule T2) could fold up and store away like it should.

The Thule T2 sometimes does not fit when in the folded position. The front wheel well closest to the car on the drivers side is the culprit. I have the 917 XTR T2 and my hitch is on order. I dont know if it will fit my car 2009 Toyota Camry 4DR, but it is nice to know that there is an alternative to cutting off what does not fit.

Patrick B.

5/28/2013

Remember this adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. Make sure the total weight of the bike rack and bikes falls under that new tongue weight capacity figure.

Excellent, just what I needed to install my bike carrier in the hitch receiver of my 03 Mustang GT.
I purchased the hitch receiver from etrailer.com and received the same high level of customer service and delivery. Installation was easy even for an amateur like me.

by:

It fits into the receiver on the car, but the lock doesn't fit through the receiver and the extension. So I cannot lock it onto my car. I tried to contact the company to return everything but couldn't through their website or by phone. So it sits in my garage and makes me unhappy everytime I see it.

by:

There' not much to say about the product; it fits and it's well-made. The kudos go to Etrailer though for knowledgable communication, prompt delivery, clear and easy website, and friendly service. I don't buy hitches very often but I'll check here first next time.

by:

Fits perfectly on my lowered 2002 Convertible mustang. I needed this extension because I could not use my bike rack due to clearance issues. I could also not use ones that most auto shops keep that converts from 1 1/4 inch to a 2 inch because the metal was too wide and would not slide under my bumper. Allows access to my trunk with plenty of space. Haven't actually put my bikes on it yet, but doesn't seem like it will be a problem. Fast shipping too as I bought on Sat night, received it on Thursday. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Works perfectly!

by:

Excellent quality. Fast service. Make it perfectly clear that a hitch pin and clip are not included and must be purchased separately.

by:

Great product, easy assemble and install, nice finish, works as well as anticipated. Delivery time was good and the tracking very accurate. I used the bike rack on my Jeep Wrangler X because the rack I had that attached to the spare was to heavy for the door when I mounted two bicycles on it. Thanks K

by:

Using this on my John Deere diesel Gator and it does a great job, is high quality, and was a great price. Service with etrailer is always fantastic.

by:

Product is as described and fits perfectly! Ordering was easy, price was right, and shipping was the best rate available when I ordered.
Shipping info, tracking, et al was very helpful and accurate.

by:

Its a pleasure dealing with a company that goes out of their way to make the customer feel taken care of and Etrailers is that company.
The product was delivered earlier than expected. Etrailer personnel kept me updated on the delivery via email and it was just a pleasure doing business with them. I will kept this company in mind for future purchases.

It's exactly what I needed!

by:

It works perfectly for my Bike Carrier. Using the extender, I am able to open the trunk lid without removing the bikes.

by:

Exactly what I needed to extend my new bike rack beyond the spare tire carrier. Quick service and shipping.

by:

For use with my hidden hitch on 08 Saturn Astra and an Allen bike rack. The bike rack didn't fit tight in the extender, alot of wobble. That was fixed by drilling another hole through the extender for the extra bolt provided with the bike rack. Works great now.

by:

First hitch experience as a single lady. eTrail had nice pictures so I could tell 7" was from hole to hole so that a whole 7" clearance would be added.

Order the pin! Didn't know to order a pin, too. Next stop......

Great Product, quick service

by:

Second time I've ordered from Etrailer -- excellent products, great prices, prompt delivery, and no hiccups. I see no reason to use anyone else. Etrailer has earned my business.

I would recommend Etrailer.

by:

Can never have too many of these!

by:

Product exactly as advertised. Fits snugly into receiver, so no rattles, and seems strong (I can stand on it, no worries, though I wouldn't make a habit of it).

by:

Not only am I pleased with the product, but also with the price and how quickly I received it. From order to receiving was 4 days. The price was $12 dollars cheaper than the same product at a local trailer supply store. I'll order again!

  • How to Secure Bike Rack Carried with 1-1/4 inch Trailer Hitch Extender
A hitch lock such as # e98879 would be a good choice to secure the extender to the vehicle's Class I or II trailer hitch. To secure the bike rack to the extender, you'd use a # THSTL2 Thule locking hitch pin which is compatible with most recently manufactured Thule bike racks. If you'd care to reply with which particular Thule rack you have, I'd be happy to confirm compatibility. I would warn you though that Thule doesn't recommend using a hitch extender for their racks. Using an extender...

  • Will The Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack Fit 2006 Honda CRV With Spare Tire On Back?
In order to verify if the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # KU64FR will fit your 2006 Honda CRV with spare tire, you will need to take a measurement. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch receiver, all the way to the rear-most part of your spare tire to determine how far a bike rack will need to be from your hitch receiver. I attached a photo to show this measurement. The Kuat Transfer has a distance of about 8-5/16" from...

  • Hitch Extension Increasing Receiver Size from 1-1/4 to 2
If I understand your request, you are saying that your Sprinter has a hitch with a 1-1/4" square receiver, and you would like a part that plugs into the 1/4" receiver on one end and has a 2" receiver opening on the other end. In this case the Brophy # HTAD Hitch Adapter could be a solution. It offers a 7-1/4" extension of your hitch pin holes. We also offer the Brophy # HES6 that offers a 5-3/4" extension and the Curt # D189 that has a 7" extension. If you need an extra hitch pin for...

  • Which Bike Rack Will Clear The Tailgate On A 2008 Honda Element?
The Swagman Chinook Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # S64683 has a measurement of 12-1/2" from the trailer hitch pin hole to the closest part of the bike rack when folded/tilted down. You can measure from your trailer hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of the tailgate when folded down and if it is less than 12-1/2" you will likely be fine without any interference, but I cannot guarantee it since we haven't tested it on a 2008 Honda Element yet. • What to do if Your New Bike Rack Doesn't Have Enough Clearance for Your Vehicle
It looks like you ordered the Swagman XC 2-Bike Rack, part # S64650, and it's not clearing your Jeep well. You can always look at exchanging bike racks, but I believe I have a better solution. You can use a hitch extender to give you the clearance that you need. Normally, using a hitch extender is a worry because it will reduce your hitch's tongue weight capacity by 50%. However, in this case, the XC only weighs around 30 pounds and can only support 70 pounds for the bikes, making the...

You would have to measure the depth of your spare tire to see if it will fit normally. I suspect it will be too close, but if it is, you can use the 8" etrailer # 80307 hitch extender if you have a 2" square receiver opening. If you have a 1-1/4" square receiver opening you can use the 7" Curt # D189...

  • How To Extend A 1 1/4" Hitch On A 2021 Subaru Forester
In order to reduce the risk of your hitch ball coming in contact with the rear bumper on you 2021 Subaru Forester, you first need to take a measurement from the receiver pin hole to the outside of your bumper. This will determine exactly how long of a ball mount you will need, and if you will need a hitch extender or not. I recommend looking into the Curt Towing Starter Kit # C45147. This hitch kit comes with a 2" ball and fits 1- 1/4" receiver. It has a length of 9 3/4" from the center...

  • Will The Hitch Extender Allow For Thule T2 Pro XTR To Fit Receiver With Less Than 1.5 Inch Receiver
Using the Curt Hitch Extender # D189 will give you 2" from the center of the front hitch pin hole to the end of the receiver tube. This will allow the anti-rattle for the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack # TH23JV to work properly. Do understand by using the extender it will lower your tongue weight capacity by 50%. It will likely be a better idea to replace your receiver with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12100 so you will not have to use an adapter.
