This was exactly what I needed to make my hitch work on a Grand Caravan. The adjustable hitch was too close to the bumper after installing the Curt receiver hitch.

You will want to keep in mind that using an extender will reduce the capacity of your hitch by half.

by:

The extender worked as expected. No iss ues

by:

This thing is an absolute beast! well made and solid, with an exceptional finish. Worked as advertised and cleared the spare tire on my Wrangler such that our bike rack could be installed correctly. An exceptional product!

by:

The shaft length of a standard insert for a receiver hitch was too short to allow towing a 96 gallon trash can because the trash can lid was wedged against the tailgate of the ATV. The hitch extender has added sufficient length that the lid hinge can be dropped onto the trailer ball without being wedged against the tailgate.

Still working as intended with no downtime or difficulties.. also useful as an easy tiedown point when transporting the atv on a flatbed trailer.

by:

The hitch extension is heavy duty and I’m extremely happy with the quality. Service was superb and received the product in 2 days. Happy, happy, happy. Before and after photos are included.

I just wanted to provide you with a heads-up that using an extender like the # C45791 will reduce the capacity of your receiver hitch by 50 percent, as mentioned on the product page.

by:

Great. Extended my hitch just enough to keep my truck bumper from hitting my v-nose trailer. It greatly reduces the weight ratio, but length works out great.

Actually I bought a superduty and took extender out. Went with new B&W hitch on new truck. But the extender worked great on the f150

by:

I purchased this extension to use with my front end Curt Class 3 receiver hitch. This setup was installed for use of my Warn Wench that is installed in a portable receiver cradle that I use on either the front or rear of my truck. I chose this extension because of the solid shank that made it stronger than most other I shopped. As all extensions reduce the hitch weight rating, this one provided the least amount of reduction. I am very happy with my purchase and it works as advertised.

by:

Heavy metal, fit current hitch well. Good extention for Thule bike rack.

by:

Great product, excellent website, very user friendly (the "how to" videos were especially helpful in making sure the product I was ordering was the right one), highly responsive customer relations department. The hitch extender worked correctly the first time, and fits perfectly with my new Thule bike rack (see photos). I highly recommend eTrailer!

by:

super fast shipping and worked perfect as described this was for my personal lowered c-10 1970 step side I wanted my hitch hidden behind the lic plate and was having some clearance issues with the plate as it had to flip up not down to clear my hitch We use the m a,lot at work for hitches trailer parts ect with supply chain issues they take the time to call you and offer other solutions if not in stock for your on online orders excellent customer service

by:

Received the 8” extension and it does exactly what I needed it to do. Matches up nicely with the Curt hitch on my SUV. Now I need not worry about how closely my trailers come to the rear end. Fast delivery and great support.

by:

I got this for my side by side as the receiver was mounted too far underneath the unit to be practical. This adapter moved it out to just the right spot. I use my SxS to move my trailers around my property mostly, & it works great.

by:

Put a receiver underneath my travel trailer and I needed to Ring the receiver out 8 inches from underneath the trailer and it fit perfect and it’s heavy duty And with the anti-rattle device I got from etrailer it works perfect.

by:

Works well, allows for oversized spare tire on the back of the Jeep to clear the teardrop trailer tongue jack.

*** Packaging was horrible. Placed in a cardboard box w/ no packing material, box was destroyed on arrival, and damaged / chipped paint. If you are going to charge us for shipping at least package the product so it will not be destroyed in normal shipping ***

Thank you for your review and I apologize about the shipping damage. Customer Service will be reaching out to you.

by:

Waited to answer, pkg arrived empty, called etrailer to advise, you shipped replacement right away and it has arrived. Thank you so much

by:

This extender worked perfectly. It is the perfect length to clear the spare tire on my Jeep. I haven’t noticed any problems with the additional tongue weight that this supposedly adds. It’s a better solution than removing my spare tire. I’m pulling a 17.5 foot bass boat.

by:

Way too much play between it and the receptacle. I use it for a bicycle rack and the whole thing wobbles too much. I still use it, but it's unnerving.

by:

As usual you always have what I need. Thank you also for rapid, reasonable shipping.

by:

Great product, very heavy duty. Allowed me to mount bike rack behind a large Jeep tire. Easy ordering and quick shipping.

by:

Didn't work for my jeep because of the 35 inch tire attached to the tailgate.

by:

Both products excellent.

by:

I'm sure the product was good as etrailer is always excellent. But when we got back two of the pieces were in the box but the curt hitch extender was not. The box had a hole in it and was tapped over. Who knows what happened.

Well made and finished. It was exactly what I needed. The product was delivered earlier than promised. I like doing business with eTrailer.

by:

I purchased this Extender for my RV. The factory hitch was installed right under the bumper which made it very difficult to get the trailer hitch on top of the ball. With the extender, it is a snap to hook up my trailer without damaging the fiberglass bumper.
The extender is extremely heavy duty and well made. I am thrilled with my purchase and it sure make my trailer hookup much easier.

Ordered the Curt bolt on hitch for our 20015 Wrangler, along with the Curt Hitch Extender and the custom fit wiring from Curt. Never disappointed with Curt's quality and eTrailer's prompt delivery. All was securely packaged and the bolt on hitch was a breeze to install!

  • Comparing Brophy 7" and Curt 8" Hitch Extenders
The main difference between the Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver 7" part # HE06 and Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers part # C45791 is length and they are made by two different manufactures. Brophy does most of their stuff in the USA so their costs are a bit higher than Curt therefore they are more expensive. Please note, using any adapter like the above will reduce weight capacity by 50%. The only way around this is a ball mount with longer shank but that limits your...

The Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches # 63232 is the correct anti-rattle locking hitch pin for your Jeep Wrangler's trailer hitch receiver to use with the Brophy Hitch extender # HE06 as a solution. The Thule # THSTL2 is designed to work with Thule bike racks specifically. The Roadmaster Quiet Hitch, # RM-061 can be used on the connection between the hitch extender and the hitch receiver itself as another solution. Please keep in mind that the use of the extender...

If you have heavy mountain bikes, you are definitely going in the right direction of a hitch-mounted bike rack instead of a tire-mount rack. Since the current distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to the closest part of the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack # KU84FR is 6-1/2 inches, a hitch extender will be your best route for trying to clear your spare tire. If your hitch sits close to the bumper like the Curt Hitch - 2" # e98835, you are looking at around 7-1/2 inches of clearance...

  • Using a Hitch Extender When Towing Small John Boat
So here's the deal with hitch extenders. Using an extender like the # C45791 will lower the hitch tongue weight capacity (maximum allowable weight bearing down on the hitch) by half, because the extender moves the load rearward by 8 inches which increases the leverage placed on the hitch and its attachment points to the vehicle. Your hitch will have an ID sticker on it that will list its tongue weight capacity. Divide that by 2, and you'll have the tongue weight capacity not to exceed when...

In order to be able to use the Swagman XTC-2 2-Bike Platform Rack part # S64670 on a 2017 Jeep Wrangler you'll need a hitch extension, the Curt Hitch Extender part # C45791 is what I recommend. This will allow both bikes to clear the rear spare tire. It won't create any issues with weight so no worries here.

The Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes part # KU84FR won't be able to be folded up on a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited nor will pretty much any platform style rack. If you really like this rack then you can use a hitch extender like the Curt Hitch Extender part # C45791 to get the job done but please note these do reduce capacity by 50%. The other option is a hanging style rack like the Thule Hitching Post Pro part # TH934XTR.

The best option for clearing the open tailgate on your Ford F-150 when towing a trailer is with an extended ball mount like the Curt # C45270. This ball mount measures 13 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the ball hole and has a gross towing weight capacity of 7,500 pounds. You can definitely mount the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch, part # C13704, on your travel trailer. I've linked to a video review of this hitch for you to look at. As for attaching the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack, part # S94FR, to the hitch with the Curt 8" Extender, part # C45791, that can be done, but it's not at all recommended. When using a hitch extender like the Curt part # C45791 you end up cutting the towing capacity of the hitch by 50 percent due to the added leverage and movement created. You will need to add a hitch extender. The spare tire on your 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL interferes with the installation of this hitch bike rack, unless you have an extender. Yes, for the Swagman Current # S64678 you will need at least 5-3/4 inches from the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when folded to be able to use that feature. It weighs about 50lbs and can handle 60lbs per bike. Before grabbing an extender I do recommend confirming the distance between the center hole to the bumper is 8". I don't see a whole lot of vehicles with the hitch recessed that far in from your bumper. Your hitch can handle the weight so that's good, but you need...

I confirmed with my contact at TorkLift that the measurement from the center pinhole to the closest part of the tray of the 24x27 TorkLift Lock and Load Maximum Security Cargo Tray # TLA7752 is only 6-1/2 inches. • Effect on Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity from Use of Hitch Extension
You are correct that increasing the distance between the hitch receiver and the actual load on it will also increase the leverage applied to the hitch. And this DOES indeed reduce the hitch's rated capacity. Hitch extensions, even fairly short ones like the 8-inch Curt # C45791, will cost you HALF of the hitch's rated tongue weight capacity. The physics of using adapters is more complicated than just the increased distance. Use of an adapter also allows for more motion of the suspended...

It measures 1-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball, it has a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop and it was designed to be used with 2 inch trailer hitches. I'll start out by saying that any time you use a hitch extender like the # C45791, you reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50%. Depending on which year Jeep Wrangler you purchase, your tongue weight capacity is going to likely be 350-lbs (you'll want to confirm this in the owner's manual), so using a hitch extender would reduce that to 175-lbs total with bikes and carrier. You need to measure the center of the hitch's pinhole to the outside surface of your spare tire. If that length is less than 6-1/2", you do not need a hitch extender. Use of a hitch extender, whether it is a dual receiver adapter like Curt # D-192 or a straight extender like # C45791, will reduce your hitch's rated tongue weight capacity by 50-percent. The loss comes from the actual load being further away from the actual hitch tube; this applies more leverage to the hitch and so means it can handle less weight.
