When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Electric reverse lockout with solenoid is automatically activated when the tow vehicle is shifted into reverse. To use this feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round or 7-pole wiring harness.

Trailer coupler was delivered on time. It bolted up to the trailer ok. However, a disc brake lock out solenoid is in a separate box contained in the shipping box. It threads into the surge brake fluid outlet ok, but the solenoid outlet thread and end shape is a mystery that sent me running around town to locate a fitting with the right thread and shape. Very frustrating that the kit did not have a fitting that would convert to something standard. Still searching after two days of searching. Makes this kit relatively worthless til you solve this problem.

The solenoid valve for the Titan brake actuators has one eighth inch pipe NPT threads on the make end and three eighth - 24 inverted seat threads on the female side that a three sixteenth size brake line would install to. We do have a video that is useful about the solenoid and installation.

by:

Not sure of actual product performance yet. But you guys really need to add a small instructional sheet. Wasted half an hour trying to figure out fittings before I finally figured out that since reverse solenoid was not attached it replaced the fitting already on the cylinder. Then after I had it together I saw that the longer shield that was included loose for the reverse lockout solenoid could NOT be put on without removing short shield which could not be removed without taking off the brake lines that I had just installed. Half sheet of paper with 2 or 3 sentences is all you would need to include.

Works fine, But there are many times that a bypass or lockout is needed.

by:

The coupler itself met expectations and is functioning perfectly. However, there are three things I would like to report that would make the installation easier. First, some written instructions would be helpful. There was NO documentation that came with this major item. Next, I was unable to attach the solenoid cutoff for the coupler and determined the solenoid was a different thread size than the coupler's reservoir fitting. I spent extra time and two trips to the hardware store to correct this only to discover that the fitting on the reservoir needed to be removed AND REPLACED with the solenoid connection. The last item relates to the protective cover for the solenoid. A separate part is included that protects the solenoid and its fitting but nothing tells you that this needs to be installed in place of the shorter cover supplied on the coupler. One additional point is the lack of instructions to properly bleed the braking system. It is a little tricky on this item and knowing the correct process would have been helpful instead of relying on internet searches to find help.

This product is a champ when it comes to trailer brakes the reverse actuator automatically disengages the brakes so you won't have to manually . Easy to install looks good

I started to replace the nut that goes to the backup actuator. I recall a review and looked at the video. No nut replacement, just screw in the actuator. The nut is just used for shipping. The product is excellent and my identical Titan lasted over 10 years of salt water use. Glad to see that the quality has not decreased. Will buy again from etrailer.

After looking for anew part for our boat trailer with no luck. They did all they could do to get it to us before Vacation. Came in just in time and good condition. Product worked well and Will call on you for our many needs. Thank you for making our vacation a safe and happy one.

Great value but very difficult to bleed the brake lines

Quicker than expected delivery. The phonw help was very knowledgable and did a great job of getting the right brake acuator for my needs. The local shop would have sold me the wrong one for more money. I'm very satisfied.

  • Master Cylinder to Convert Titan Surge-o-Matic Model 6 Actuator to Disc Brake Operation
You are correct that disc brakes require an actuator with higher psi pressure than what is required by drum brakes. Drum brakes need pressure of 1000-psi but discs need 1500 to 1600-psi. You can convert your Titan Surge-O-Matic Model 6 actuator to disc brake operation by replacing the master cylinder with part # T1777405. This kit includes the master cylinder, mounting plate, hex bolt, push rod assembly and installation hardware. If your brakes locked up this should not be due to the lower-pressure...

  • Replacement Options For Tie Down Engineering LP8000 Disc Brake Actuator
There are a couple options to replace the 8,000 lb TDE LP8000 disc brake actuator (though not just the inner member). One is from Dexter and the other Demco: - Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop and Electric Lockout - Disc # DM8750311 - Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc # T4747220 Both attach to a 2-5/16" hitch ball and fit a 3" wide trailer tongue; the biggest difference is the Demco gives you a built-in 4" drop while the Dexter does not.

  • Parts Needed to Add Disc Brakes to Drum Brake Trailer
If you have Atwood surge coupler # 83010 and you want to convert the trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes on one axle you will need to either replace the coupler or replace the master cylinder inside it with one that delivers the higher psi pressure required by disc brakes. Disc brakes need psi pressure in the 1500-1600-psi range so a new 8K-rated actuator/coupler like # T4747220 is needed. If the trailer has two 3500-lb axles (which would be expected if it has the 8K-rated Atwood coupler...

  • Recommended Replacement Actuator for a TDE Model LP8000 Class lV Actuator
We have a couple of options for replacing your TDE model LP8500 actuator. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator item # T4079200, you were looking at, will work great if you have drum brakes. If you have disk brakes you will need item # T4747220. These actuators have a slightly lower capacity at 8,000 lbs but this will still be sufficient on your Mastercraft X46 trailer.

The replacement brake actuator that you need is either the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc - 2-5/16" Ball - 8,000 lbs, part # T4747220, which will work if your trailer has disc brakes or the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16" Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs, part # T4079200, which works for trailers with drum brakes. I have included product description links and video demo links below.

If as many parts of the coupler need replacing that you mentioned I would recommend just replacing the whole thing. It will save you the hassle of rebuilding the coupler and will give you all new components. The part # T4747220 would be a great choice as it is basically exactly what you have. For a single axle brake line kit the part # 18SI-BLKIT would work well.

  • Recommended Surge Brake Actuator For 7800lb Tandem Axle Boat Trailer W/ Disc Brakes
You would have no problems what so ever going with an 8000lb rated coupler since you are only at 7800lbs, and going with a 12500lb coupler would cause a little more jerky braking due to the different size springs used for the trailer to apply the brakes. With that said I recommend the Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T4747220 is rated for 8000lbs and is designed for disc brakes like what is on your trailer.

  • Recommended Brake Actuator With Lock Out for 7000 LBS. Boat Trailer
The standard tongue weight on a trailer is approximately 10-15 percent of the GTW. On a boat trailer it generally stays at 10 percent because most of the weight of a boat is towards the back end of the trailer, reducing the need for more tongue weight. This is why all of our couplers have a tongue weight of 10 percent of the GTW. If you'd like to be more definite in your tongue weight, you can always use a scale like the Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044. The Titan Zinc-Plated...

Thanks again for your purchase. We really appreciate your business. As for mounting the Zinc-Plated Surge Brake Actuator, # T4747220, Titan recommends using at least Grade 5 hardware and lock nuts. You can just use the 2 holes for a 5/8 inch bolt or for added strength you can also use the remaining 3 holes for a 1/2 inch bolt as well. • Can An Electric Reverse Lockout Solenoid Be Submerged?
An electric reverse lockout solenoid like found on the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout # T4747220 should not be submerged while connected to your 7-way.
