When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

After 36,000 miles on my boat trailer, my previous Dexter Brake Actuator was looking pretty worn. A replacement was needed. Easy to install - just two bolts, filling the brake fluid reservoir and connecting the brake line.

by:

Product is exactly as advertised. The team kept me well informed of delivery. Definately recommend shopping at etrailer!

by:

I regret buying this brake actuator for my boat trailer. This is the exact same actuator that was on the trailer when I got it, but the original was 25 years old and neglected. I decided to buy a new actuator, same as original and also replace the brake lines, baking plate and I even got the drums turned.

Well I go to fill the master cylinder up with brake fluid, open the bleeder screw and try to bleed this unit. It is the most difficult process. This is the absolute worst choice in hydraulic brake actuators for drum brakes on a boat trailer. The ONLY way you can actuate the brakes is to either use a long fulcrum (long piece of angle iron) or chock the wheels and hook it to your truck and back up. This is extremely difficult, cumbersome and just plain antiquated with today's technology. This actuator could certainly be updated with modern design/engineering and make this process much easier.

DO NOT BUY THIS ACTUATOR!

If you use a longer 2 by 4 it is much easier to get leverage to move the coupler. Another way that you can bleed the brakes more efficiently is with a Hand Vacuum Pump Brake Bleeder item # PTW87030.

by:

Product looks great, heavy-duty and ready for install! Would have given 5-Star if the shipping boxes weren't damaged.

by:

hello: I am restoring an older boat trailer. I needed a new surge brake assembly. After looking around for days, I came across your website. It was the easiest site to use with great pictures and all the information needed to make my decision in one place. ordering was just as easy. Free delivery and great prices will bring me back

by:

Ordered on Sunday early afternoon and received a notice that same day in late afternoon that the brake actuator had shipped. Donā€™t see that too often. Item was delivered in a few days and tracking the item was detailed. Brake actuator was a perfect fit in replacing an old worn out titan model 6 7500 lb with a titan 8000 lb. Easy to change out. Took maybe 20 min. Great service.

by:

The customer service was excellent! The replacement winch strap I had originally ordered was backordered for months. ETrailor quickly notified me and offered several other options. I chose one of those options and the order was filled and shipped with only a few hours delay. The complete order arrived within a few days, well protected in a heavy duty box, and as described and expected. They are perfect replacements for my old worn out parts. Thanks!

by:

Very happy with the product so far. It looks to bolt up replacing the old hitch that was on the trailer. I have not had a chance to install T4079200 but I will update after I install...

by:

It is a little hard to get connected. Requires driving forward and turning some to get the latch to shut. I feel confidant that it is not going to come loose while I am driving.

by:

Ordered my trailer hitch come in right
On
time bolted on my trailer worked perfect.. Always have good luck ordering
from etrailer.com

by:

The brake actuator fits perfectly on my Trail-rite boat trailer. Looks nice also. Will try it on the road next week.

by:

my third Titan Model 6......seems like a new and improved version of the older ones!

Ordered it, they shipped it, all in a few days and arrived in great shape!

Thanks again,

Matt

by:

by:

Purchase experience was as good as i have ever had on any product. items delivered as scheduled. Both items exactly what was ordered. Even return process was easy (my error on one item) and correct item delivered right away. Communication with vendor was excellent. Product descriptions on website accurate which made ordering a cinch. I highly recommend this vendor for any trailer parts needs.

by:

Just installed my new 8,000LB surge tongue, shipping was fast and installation was easy, great product and works just like its suppose to, would be nice if it had a reverse lock out but because of its design it was easy to make my own lock out.

by:

Very sturdy construction, latch works easily, and actuator woks very smoothly. Would definitely recommend!

by:

The actuator and hitch were received very quickly and look to be exactly what I needed for repair and restoration on a 24.1 Mako. Very well packaged and at the right price.

by:

Exactly what I needed couldn't find it anywhere else except your online store thank you so much. When you stuck on side of road with broken trailer u need it fixed fast. Thanks so much for the fast delivery

by:

  • Solution for Banging During Starts and Stops with Titan Model 6 Actuator on Trailer
It's a bit hard to tell based on the picture but it does look like you might have an older Titan Model 6 Brake Actuator like our 8K # T4079200. If this is the case then you can use the Replacement Shock # T1242600 to resolve the issues you're having. The banging that you described is absolutely a common symptom of a bad shock component, so this should be all that you need. I have attached a short video review below that you can check out as well.

  • Is Braking Affected By Switching From 6,000 lb to 8,000 lb Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator
Going from an actuator such as the Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator - Drum Brakes - Zinc Plated - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs # DM72VR to a larger one, the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16" Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs # T4079200 will slightly affect the braking. It will be a smidgen more rigid due to the added strength of the larger capacity actuator, but this is something that will be very minimal and won't affect the way your trailer rides. • Replacement Titan Brake Actuator for Titan 3241639
We've checked the part number you gave us before and the replacement for it is the part # T4750820 which is for disc brakes. This one does come with a reverse lock out solenoid. If it has rust all over it I'd consider just replacing the entire thing and starting over with everything new. If you can get me the capacity of your axles and the bolt patterns I can help you pick out stainless steel brake components that won't rust as well.

  • Recommended Replacement Actuator for a TDE Model LP8000 Class lV Actuator
We have a couple of options for replacing your TDE model LP8500 actuator. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator item # T4079200, you were looking at, will work great if you have drum brakes. If you have disk brakes you will need item # T4747220. These actuators have a slightly lower capacity at 8,000 lbs but this will still be sufficient on your Mastercraft X46 trailer.

The replacement brake actuator that you need is either the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout - Disc - 2-5/16" Ball - 8,000 lbs, part # T4747220, which will work if your trailer has disc brakes or the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16" Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs, part # T4079200, which works for trailers with drum brakes. For your Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16 inch Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs, part # T4079200, I would recommend you use a Fastway Universal Trailer Coupler Lock for 1-7/8 inch, 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch Couplers, part # FA86-0015-318. This coupler lock will fit virtually any coupler and should deter thieves from stealing your trailer. Before you order, I would recommend you measure the width of the lip on your # T4079200. If that measurement is less than 4-1/2 inches, you will...

  • Replacement for Titan Model 6 Trailer Brake Actuator
That is a great photo, thank you; and while there are certain repair parts available for a Titan Model 6, I recommend replacing it altogether. The reason for this is the corrosion looks to have taken its toll on the actuator, and is at the point where a replacement makes the most sense in terms of safety and value. The Titan Model 60 is still a good option, and the right one will depend on if you have disc or drum brakes: - Disc Brakes: Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Disc - 2-5/16"...

  • Is the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator T4079200 Suitable for Boat Trailers
Yes, the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T4079200 can be used on a boat trailer. In fact, these actuators are actually designed specifically for boat trailers which is why they have a zinc plating so you don't have to worry about about rust/corrosion that is associated with launching a trailer in water frequently. In regards to being submerged, I don't see any issue with this but you don't want the actuator submerged for an extended period of time. If you are just referring to submerging...

On a Titan model 6 actuator like # T4079200 the breakaway reset procedures is as follows: When the break-away lever is engaged, it is in the vertical position. It must be reset before the trailer is moved. First, carefully loosen the pressure line fitting to the master cylinder to relieve hydraulic pressure. Then remove the four bolts that secure the master cylinder assembly to the outer case. The flat front tab of the ā€œUā€ shaped break-away spring can then be placed in the top notch...

  • Can the Check Valve on a Titan Drum Brake Actuator be Removed for Use with Disc Brakes
Technically, the check valve on the drum actuator, # T4079200, can be removed. However, it is not recommended to do so because you could end up damaging the master cylinder. It would be best to go with the appropriate actuator, # T4747200. You could also replace the master cylinder in the drum brake actuator using the disc brake master cylinder # T1777405.
