Master Cylinder to Convert Titan Surge-o-Matic Model 6 Actuator to Disc Brake Operation
Question:
2003 2 axle trailer., has Model 6 Surge -o -matic actuator. Changed rusted drum brakes to ties down stainless disc. Assuming that I need to change to T4747220 so the actuator is designed for disc instead of drum brakes. Is this correct? Can the existing Model 6 surge o matic be used for Tie Down stainless discs. . Smoking the pads going down a long hill today. I rebled the brakes using the actuator emergency lever. Are the brakes locking up due to air in system or wrong actuator ? thanks

You are correct that disc brakes require an actuator with higher psi pressure than what is required by drum brakes. Drum brakes need pressure of 1000-psi but discs need 1500 to 1600-psi. You can convert your Titan Surge-O-Matic Model 6 actuator to disc brake operation by replacing the master cylinder with part # T1777405. This kit includes the master cylinder, mounting plate, hex bolt, push rod assembly and installation hardware.
If your brakes locked up this should not be due to the lower-pressure master cylinder or an air bubble but would relate to a clog in the lines or to the current master cylinder being damaged.
