Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuator T1242600 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan replacement shock for the Titan model 6 and model 10 brake actuators. This part will allow you to replace a worn out or damaged sock on the Titan model 6 or model 10 brake actuators. The collapsed length, this is in the collapsed position, which is measured center to center, on this shock is going to be right at 6 inches. When you pull this out all the way, the extended length would measure 8 1/16. Now the inner diameter of the rings right here on the smaller one is 0.63 inches, from the larger one is 0.9 inches. The diameter of the outer body is 1.63 inches.

That should do it for the review on the Titan replacement shock for the Titan model 6 and model 10 brake actuators.

Looks like a great unit but was wrong shock for my Atwood replacement which was obsolite. Wrong style.

by:

This was to replace broken hydraulic shocks on a boat trailer with surge brakes. They went in smoothly and were easy to use in order to manually bleed the brake lines.

by:

Just replaced this on a Titan SurgeOMatic 6 hydraulic actuator on a 1997 EZLoader trailer rated at 7000 lbs 24-25 foot boat. The shock has same dimensions buts looks to be generic import. Orginal shock was a Gabriel. Cannot comment on the quality until I use it a while.

by:

Everything was delivered before promised and looks great. Will definitely order from you again.

by:

The parts came sooner than predicted. I'm in the process of installing them. They are an identical OEM part.

by:

Fits perfectly on my DICO Model 6. I ordered the wrong one first, but the nice folks at eTrailer made the exchange process easy! Will definitely buy from them again!

by:

Great product, solved my slamming trailer brake problem.

by:

Bought a used hydraulic brake trailer that needed Overhauled. Found my replacement parts @ etrailer! Shock works Great, thnx for carrying a Quality Replacement Part!!

Shock has held up well now that it’s over a year old. Thnx etrailer.com !!

by:

everything was as I expected,

by:

We needed to replace the shocks to make our trailer breaks work. We went on line and found Etrailer.com. What a find. First - Carla is a great asset to the company. She knows her stuff and made it a pleasure to work with her. With Carla's help we found the parts we needed, ordered them and on schedule they arrived. The trailer is up and running again. Fyi - Yes we did some price checking and found the parts locally but the price was almost 3Xs as much. Etrailer.com is at the top of my list for any future parts I might need for my company. Thank You Etrailer.com

by:

Fit right into place. Buy an adapter for it to get from the 1/4" pipe thread at the rear of the master cylinder to the flare fitting of your brake line! Mine is 3/16 flare . The adapter from the old master c was different. Used a crescent wrench on the breakaway lever to bleed.

by:

Easy to install on my factory trailer for my 2004 Four Winns Horizon 230. Greatly reduced the "pull-away thump".

Note: a short length of 3/4" copper water pipe was really helpful for holding the shock and the two "rollers" in alignment while positioning the shock and installing the pin that holds the big end to the trailer.

by:

Was redoing brake system on trailer. Ordered this replacement shock. Came in timely manner-- perfect fit. So far 1 year later still working great.

by:

Exact replacement parts for trailer with hydraulic brakes.
I have been rebuilding the complete brake system and springs on a 31ft long dual axle boat trailer. I have made multiple orders with etrailer and all of the parts have been exact fit. This has been the easiest rebuild I have ever done.

by:

better than original, thanks for speedy service
I am rebuilding a special built trailer made in 1973 for a Sea Camper Boat Will try to send picture of boat and trailer when restoration is complete. Just received tandem brake line kit

by:

Titan 10 hitch actuator, perfect! Came a day earlier than scheduled, installed without a hitch! No pun intended!! Great product, fit perfectly. Will do business agin and agin and again....

by:

This shock was for m1102 military trailer and I thought it would be next to impossible to find but e trailer had in in stock and delivered in a few days.

by:

Had been having difficult time finding the drum brake shock until I found your site. Not sure they are new or not or have been sitting on shelf a long time because of appearance. Perhaps drum brakes are now a dying breed. But the shocks are what I need to get back on the road.

by:

Helped with smooth out the hard starts and stops with the boat trailer.

by:

The product pictured matched my old unit exactly. Received item in a reasonable time. Was able to install the new unit with no problems. I need to complete reworking the rest of the brake system before I can test but so far everything looks great.

by:

Exact replacement for my 1970's U-haul surge brake system on my trailer.

by:

Thanks George your service was very good , I got the right part and prompt delivery, I'll call you first next time I need parts for my trailer
Once again Thank You for the excellent service.

by:

The parts I bought for repair fit perfectly and worked properly after the repair. Thanks for supplying me the parts.

by:

nice to be able to completely rebuild my brake system part is very well made and fit like they should would use again

by:

  • How to Replace the Shock on a Titan Model 10 Surge Brake Actuator
We have not yet replaced the Shock part # T1242600 on a Titan Model 10 Surge Brake Actuator so I do not have any specifics for you but I have attached a parts diagram which shows you how the unit is broken down. You can then use this to get a better idea of what all is needed to replace the shock. I spoke to the manufacturer and they do not have any sort of write-up for this process either so it appears that the only option would be to just begin disassembly and see what parts need to be...

  • 1993 Trail-Rite Trailer Actuating Coupler Replacement Shock Absorber Needed
For your 1993 Trail-Rite trailer, I'm not quite sure what you mean for shock absorber in the tongue. I'm making and assumption that you have a brake actuating coupler and need a replacement shock for it like # T1242600. Because I don't know what coupler you have, I am linking the page to all of your options. You may need to take some measurements or even contact the manufacturer to get the information needed if the name brand and model is not on the coupler itself.

  • Solution for Banging During Starts and Stops with Titan Model 6 Actuator on Trailer
It's a bit hard to tell based on the picture but it does look like you might have an older Titan Model 6 Brake Actuator like our 8K # T4079200. If this is the case then you can use the Replacement Shock # T1242600 to resolve the issues you're having. The banging that you described is absolutely a common symptom of a bad shock component, so this should be all that you need. I have attached a short video review below that you can check out as well.

  • Determining if Replacement Shock is Needed for Brake Actuator
A shock like the Replacement Shock # T1242600 for Titan Model 6 and 10 Brake Actuators is essentially designed to dampen the movement of the actuator. There are a couple things you can do to see if a replacement is in order. First, if you find that your trailer is slamming forward and back as you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, this is an indication that the shock has gone bad. Also see if the shock can easily be extended and retracted without any resistance. This would also indicate...

  • Should Shock Absorber # T1242600 in Titan Actuator Retract
The shock in a surge coupler actuator like a Titan Model 6 should be extended (to its longest state) when it is at rest (when not under braking load). The shock will be compressed when you apply the brakes by the momentum of the trailer pushing forward on the coupler. The spring action of the shock is intended to return the coupler to its uncompressed state (extended to maximum length). The part you referenced, # T1242600, has just over 2-inches of travel between its compressed (retracted)...

  • Solution to Allow Titan Surge Brake Actuator to Back Up without Locking Up Brakes
Surge brakes will lock up when in reverse if the trailer does not have a reverse lock out or free-backing assemblies installed. To fix that you would want the reverse lock out solenoid part # T4748800. This blocks the actuator from building hydraulic pressure when in reverse so that you can back up. I attached an install video for this product for you to check out as well. The one assembly being hot could be a matter of that assembly just being out of adjustment. Use the star wheel on...

  • Testing Shock On Titan Model 10 Actuator To Determine If Replacement Is Needed
To test your shock, you can extend and retract it manually but it will take some force as there should be resistance. It should measure 6 inches from center to center when retracted and 8-1/16 inches when extended. If it is not working properly either because there isn't resistance or it is seized up, then I recommend replacing it with the Replacement Shock for Titan Model 6 and 10 Brake Actuators # T1242600.

They are attached to the side of the front sliding mechanism with bolts pictured in the diagram as number 31. The shocks (number 29) bolt to the ovals in the side of the sliding mechanism.
