Video Transcript for Kwikee Electric RV Steps Magnetic Door Sensor Replacement Review

Hey guys, this is Kevin from etrailer. And today we're gonna be taking a look at the replacement magnetic door switch for Kwikee RV Electric Steps. If you're having issues with your Kwikee electric step going in and out as you open or close your door. Then the number one cause most likely is going to be that door sensor. So your door sensor's gonna come with two parts. There's gonna be one here with two wires and that's gonna hook up to your actual motor home and to the wiring for the steps itself.

And then you're gonna have a separate piece which is just another magnet with a little bracket to hold it in place on the door. So that way anytime it comes close to the magnet on our coach side, it's going to retract the steps. And when our door opens and gets further away, it's gonna break that connection between our two magnets and extend our steps. On our coat side, there's gonna be two wires that are coming off of our magnet. One you can hook up to the power which is gonna be on that pigtail.

And then the other one you can just ground. It doesn't matter which wire you use, it will both work for whatever purpose. It just one has to go to ground and one has to go to power. Installation of your magnetic door switch is super simple. Let me show you how I did that.

So I've got my new magnet and I've already gone ahead and crimped on a ring terminal and just hooked it up and tested it just to make sure that everything's working properly. That there's no other issues with any of our wiring and we had no issues. Step went in and out as our door opened and closed with our magnet. So I know for sure this is good to go. So I'm just gonna trace this back through the opening that we already had.

This originally, it looks like they kind of just drilled into here and passed it through the gasket. Just gonna do the same thing. If I need to, I may just have to take that ring terminal off and just cripple on a new one. But we might be able to just sneak it through there. There is an adhesive backing on here so I'm gonna take that strip of and we'll stick it right on. And I'm gonna also reinsert those screws that are in our previous one. And we're just gonna run some more wire from our new switch back over to our four pole harness. Once again, we're gonna use heat shrink butt connectors. Keep our wirings nice and protected. Put that back on and we can put on our ground. All right, now that we got our wiring hooked back up, I'm gonna go ahead back up top and we'll hook on our other magnet. Make sure this is all working. And then all we gotta do is just shrink up those butt connectors and zip tie it back in place. So I use the door side of my magnetic switch. If I get it close up to it, you can see that it's functioning properly. It's closing the step 'cause it thinks that the door's closed. And as I pull it away, our step opens back up. So we know this is good. Now, one other thing that concerns me is just, there is about a fingers width of space between the magnetic pieces here just because of how the door sits. 'Cause they have it attached to their screen door. So I'm gonna put a finger here just to kind of simulate that. Make sure that if my door closes it's still gonna fit. All right. So even with that amount of space, we're still good to go. If you wanted to test that out yourself before installing it just to make sure that you have it close enough. 'Cause if you don't have it close enough, these two magnets aren't gonna be able to communicate with each other and properly operate the door. But since we're all good to go, I'm gonna go ahead and take the backing off of my adhesive here. We'll stick it back where it was. And try and line it up with the screw holes that we already had. And we'll just reuse those screws from our previous one to ensure it stays in place. Now while you're doing this, you really wanna be careful. This is just plastic on here so you don't wanna drill too hard. You do, and you'll break it right off. All right, now that we get the magnet secure, we'll go ahead and close our door. As you can see, step's popping right in. But open it up, step comes right out. Well, I think about does it for today's look at the replacement magnetic door switch for Kwikee RV Electric Steps. My name's Kevin. Thanks for watching..

Had just what I needed at a good price and quick delivery.

The product was what we ordered and price was good but unfortunately it did not resolve the issue.

Great service

by:

After the US Post Office shipped the package around to several places for two weeks, they finally found it and delivered it. Customer Service at eTrailer was very helpful and offered an immediate replacement after the local Post Office told me they couldn't locate it anywhere and it would be best to contact the sender and ask for a replacement, then within an hour, I got notification from the Post Office that it had been found and would be delivered the next day. I called etrailer back and suggested they hold up on sending a replacement. Kudos to Customer Service for how they handled this situation.

by:

Did not need it. I will keep it on hand just in case

by:

I do a lot of shopping and buying through Etrailer. They have a huge variety of parts and even hard to find parts! I will continue to buy through them!

You mentioned that it had stopped working a few weeks after installation. I wanted to ask a few questions. Have you had the chance to check the wiring to make sure it didnt fray, break, and is still connected? Do you still have the sensor?

Perfect part replacement, no issues a year after installation.

I ordered a magnet for the power steps on my RV. When I initially submitted the order, I forgot to put down the billing address for my credit card, which is different from my mailing address. etrailer promptly informed me that my order could not be completed and gave me a number to call to get the situation straightened out. I called the number, and the rep was very friendly and helpful. I received the magnet, it works great, and I am very happy with the transaction. Would definitely use etrailer again!

by:

Items I have purchased have been exactly as described. Parts I have ordered are exact replacement for original. ETrailer does a great job. I have purchased tow hitches, bike racks, and RV parts. Excellent customer service.

  • Magnetic Switch Compatibility with Cabinet Door and Lights
The Lippert Components Kwikee Step Switch Magnet # LC369299 would allow you to use as a light switch for your cupboards. This is a normally open circuit that completes the circuit when the door magnet is closed. There isn't a positive or negative designation so you don't need to worry about which wire does what.

  • What Type of Switch Mechanism Is Used to Open and Close RV Powered Steps

What's interesting is some magnets work opposite of each other so if you had a door opening and closing in reverse you might just need to go to the other set of magnets.

  • Solution for Kwikee RV Step that Door Switch Operates in Reverse
For some reason Lippert uses two different magnet setups for their steps and the only difference is that they operate in reverse of each other. So since you replaced some of the electronics but then I'm sure used the same door switch you'd need to go with the other switch setup so that it operates in reverse. Basically there's two colors.
