Kwikee Step Control Step with Override Control Panel

Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a look at the kwikee step control panel. This is going to be a replacement part for your existing kwikee step on your RV. So if something's happened with the electrical, it's not working properly, it's not deploying out like it should, or some other function of that electrical system is damaged or not no longer present. This is going to be the replacement part to get you back to functional. So we'll take a look at the wires here and all the connections to make sure that it has all the things that you need to connect to your step and get rolling again.

So we'll have our large four prong plug. This is going to provide the connection to our power source, as well as the connection to our door switch and the override switch. So this is a very important component to make sure that that override function is working properly. And when I say the override function, that's going to be the switch that allows you to override the automatic opening and closing of the steps.As you open the door, the steps should deploy out. As you close the door to your RV, the steps should come in.

If you want to override that, use the overhead switch when you turn it on, it'll override that. So when you ever you open the door stairs, go out, turn on the override. The stairs are going to still stay out, even when the door is closed. So, that's something, whenever you're at the campsite, you want to have that function so you can keep those stairs rather than having to wait for them to deploy in and out each time. If you take a look at the other wires here, we'll have our two-prong wire.

This is our connection to the motor unit on the step itself.So that's the connection there between the control panel and the actual motor. Then we have our smaller kind of more teal wire. This is going to be for the ground to the step. So you want to ground this to the top step on the actual unit. It does come with a little extra star washer here.

That's kind of twist tied together. So that helps to give it a little bit more grip on your step. The larger kind of more, I guess olive green would be this guy here. This is our our ground to the chassis. So have two different grounding points. One to the top of the step. The other one to the chassis of your motor home, this little connection is going to be a kind of an optional thing. It depends on if you have a light on the underside of your step, this is just a little wired connection there.It should just be around orange or Amber light underneath that step to provide a little bit more visibility. So you can connect that if it's, if it's there. And then the last wire is our purple wire, and this is going to be another optional component. It does come with a new set of instructions. So it'll have a diagram here showing what all of those wiring functions are. And if you flip to page nine in that instruction manual, it'll tell you what each of the functions of those lights are. So our purple wire can go to the porch light. So if you have a porch light set up in your RV, you can have that automatically come on through the purple wire. You can wire this into that porch light. And that way, whenever you powered on, or the step deploys out that porch light comes on above your RV.So, it's nice that it comes with a new set of instructions. That way you can troubleshoot everything, not just with the control unit, but with all the other functions. So it also has a diagram for the door switch and other stuff like that. So again, if you maybe bought your RV with us kwikee separately in place, and these have gone missing, it's kind of nice to have a new set of instructions to help you troubleshoot if anything else arises down the road. So again, this is going to be a replacement part. Hopefully everything else is working properly on your kwikee step. And this is just going to be the one functional piece that you need to get it back to working properly.
