Should Shock Absorber # T1242600 in Titan Actuator Retract

Question:

Should the absorber shocks pull back from a open to closed position? My shocks can be opened with some effort and it sounds as though you can hear fluid moving but they dont return to the closed position like a regular shock. Should they work the same?

The shock in a surge coupler actuator like a Titan Model 6 should be extended (to its longest state) when it is at rest (when not under braking load). The shock will be compressed when you apply the brakes by the momentum of the trailer pushing forward on the coupler. The spring action of the shock is intended to return the coupler to its uncompressed state (extended to maximum length). The part you referenced, # T1242600, has just over 2-inches of travel between its compressed (retracted) and uncompressed (extended) states.

The linked photo shows both the extended and retracted dimensions of the shock.
