  • Availability of Brake Installation Kit with Spindles
Changing spindles on a trailer axle requires specialized jigs and is best left to a qualified experienced welder. Any deviations from perfect concentricity of the spindle and brake flange will result in bad performance and/or damage to the components. If you have the equipment and skills to do this that's great, but if not I urge you not take that on yourself. We do not offer kits with just spindles, brake assemblies and hubs, but we do sell axles with hubs, brakes, bearings, seals etc....

  • Replacement Electric Brakes Needed on a Kaufman Car Hauler with 10000 lb Axles
Since your trailer was made in 2008, the trailer manufacturer should be able to tell you the exact brand and part numbers for replacement brakes. It appears there were two Kaufman trailer companies, one in Texas and one in North Carolina. The company in Texas closed, so it would be difficult to get specific information from them. I spoke with Kaufman trailers in North Carolina, however, they said they do not have any trailers with a TL designation. There should be an identification plate...

  • Are there 12 x 3-3/8 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes
Like you said we have 12-1/4 x 3-3/8 inch brakes but no 12 x 3-3/8 inch brakes. When measuring though measure the inside diameter of the drum and not the diameter of the brakes. I have included a picture showing what I mean. If you measure the drum and get 12-1/4 inches then you can use 12-1/4 x 3-3/8 inch brakes such as # 23-450. But if you are measuring the inner diameter of the drum and are getting 12 inches then we will not have brakes that match the specs you need.

  • How to Determine The Axle Weight Capacity On A 20 Foot Stock Trailer
The trailer will have a plate or sticker on it that will list the VIN number. The weight rating of the axle should be listed on that same plate or sticker. Also, the axle could have a tag or plate on it that will list the weight capacity. You can also tell the weight capacity of the axle by measuring the diameter of the axle. A 3,500-lb. axle will have a diameter of 2-3/8 inches and a 6,000-lb. to 7,200-lb. axle will have a diameter of 3 inches. I am sending a link to an FAQ page on trailer...

  • Can Brakes Be Added to a Farm Wagon Used on Steep Terrain
It is possible in some circumstances to add either electric or hydraulic (surge) brakes to a trailer that does not have them, so it is theoretically possible to do something similar on a farm vehicle. This process will be quite involved and will depend on availability of compatible parts that will work with your existing axles and spindles. It may be necessary (and even easier) to replace the entire axle/spindle assembly with a new one rated suitably for your load requirements that has...

  • Replacement Electric Brake Assemblies For a 2018 Big Tex 22GN Trailer With 10K Dexter Axles
The Dexter Electric Brake Kit # 23-450-451 are the brakes you will need for your 2018 Big Tex 22GN with the 10,000lb Dexter axles. These are sold per axle so you will need 2 sets to replace all 4 of your brake assemblies. They are also sold individually as the Left # 23-450 and Right # 23-451 if you have a need to only replace one in the future. With self adjusting brakes like these it is more common for them to all wear evenly and need replaced at the same time.

  • Will Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # 23-450 Fit Lippert Axle
In order to determine whether or not the Dexter Electric Left Hand Trailer Brake Assembly, # 23-450, will fit your Lippert axle, you will need to measure the distance of the mounting points on your brake mounting flange and compare it to the measurements on the picture that I have attached. For Dexter Electric Right Hand Trailer Brake Assembly, you will need part # 23-451.

  • Electric Brake Assemblies for a Trailer with Dexter 10,000 Pound Axles
It is likely that Dexter brake assemblies # 23-450 and # 23-451 are correct for your 10K Dexter axles. These brakes mount with either a 5 or 7 bolt pattern. And they do have the correct measurements; 12-1/4 x 3-3/8. Take a look at the picture I have included showing the spacing between the mounting holes for this bolt pattern to determine if these brakes will fit.

  • Replacement Dexter Brake Assembly Recommendation for a 9k Dexter Axle
So I was able to pull up some information on your Dexter Axle and based on the 008-232-05 number you listed it looks like you have a 9k rated axle. So for Dexter 9k brake assemblies you would want the part # 23-451 for the right side and part # 23-450 for the left side. These assemblies are 12-1/4 inch by 3-3/8 inch and are self adjusting. These also use a 6 lug bolt pattern to attach to the spindle of the trailer. Check out the review video I attached as well.

  • Can Electric Brakes Be Used On Boat Trailer
In the past it was never recommended to use electric brakes on a boat trailer because electricity and water do not work well together, but more and more people and boat trailer companies are switching. We still recommend disconnecting the trailer wiring from the tow vehicle before backing the boat trailer into water. You will need to remove your brake lines and then install wiring for the brakes. You will want to make sure you seal all electrical connections to keep moisture out. I...

  • Replacement Dexter Electric Brakes for Trailer with 9,000 or 10,000 Pound Axles
For the axles on your trailer, I recommend the Dexter Electric Brake Kit # 23-450-451. These are self-adjusting brake assemblies that measure 12-1/4 inches x 3-3/8 inches. These particular brake assemblies are designed for 9,000-10,000 pound Dexter axles, so they will work great whether you actually have a 9,000 pound or 10,000 pound axle on the trailer. To ensure they will fit perfectly, you can take a couple of quick measurements on your existing drum to verify they are 12-1/4 inches...

  • What Information Can Be Provided About a 10,000LB Axle Braking System
We have several braking system components for 10,000lb axles and it typically comes down to the manufacturer of the axle and when it was manufactured. If you have a Dexter axle it should have an id tag on the axle with a serial number that will allow us to contact Dexter and determine exactly what parts were installed on it from the factory. If you can disassemble any of your brake and hub components you may find some manufacturer stampings or tags which will allow you to cross reference...

If you're saying that one of the wire clips isn't there but the magnet for your brake assembly # 23-450-451 is still in place then yes, the brake assembly with still work. If you're saying there's no longer a magnet at all then no, the brake assembly will not work. When your brake controller sends the signal back to brake assembly it energizes the magnet clamping it onto the hub and expanding the brake shoes so that they make contact with the drum to slow the trailer down.
