• 12-1/4 x 3-3/8 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes for 9K and 10K Trailer Axles
  There are 2 different sets of 12-1/4 x 3-3/8 inch brake assemblies and the difference between them is the mounting patterns they have. Electric brakes # 23-450 and # 23-451 will bolt to either a 5-hole or 7-hole mounting flange and they are for 9K to 10K axles which is what the hub # 9-44-1 is for. Electric brakes # 23-434 and # 23-435 will bolt to a 4-hole flange and they are for 8K axles.

• Can Larger Electric Brake Assemblies be Used on 7K Trailer Axle
  None of the drums offered that are compatible with the wheel bearings used by a 7K axle would work with a 12-1/2 x 3.375 brake assembly, which is usually used on a 8 or 9K axle. I'm assuming your trailer is a tandem axle. Do both axles have brakes? If not, you could add brakes to the second axle which would dramatically increase your braking performance.   You would not need cut anything to replace the shoes on the drum brakes of your trailer. If you check out the video I attached you can see our installer replacing shoes on a brake assembly and get walked through the process. If you are asking about whether or not the drums need to be turned before installing new assemblies...that will depend on the condition of the hub. If the surface looks smooth and not grooved out at all then no. If so, then you would need to have them turned.
