I have had this item installed for approximately one year on our 42 foot, 18,000 pound 5th wheel. It was easy to install and set up and has worked flawlessly ever since. We have put over 6,000 miles on the 5th wheel since the installation. I will definitely buy again if the need arises.

Its been another year and the parts are still functioning flawlessly.

OEM Dexter parts well worth the cost. Brakes are very important in the scenarios I use my trailer. You definitely feel 6 brand new brake setups behind you! etrailer kept me well informed through the process on order status. Shipping was quick. Will be shipping etrailer for any of my trailer stuff going forward.

by:

Quinn did sn excellent job on my order We compared pricing and informed me as to del8very times, I received email updates and was informed as to when to expect delivery. Oustanding and professional customer service, Highly recommend etrailer your trailer needs.

Great. Product as advertised. Fit perfectly. Always use etrailer. Thanks again.

Order was received timely. I had questions regarding a possible design change going from two spring to single spring. I contacted customer service and they replied swiftly. Not being sure of the answer the customer service rep. Conner contacted the manufacturer to determine proper answer. All is good , apparently Dexter has changed from 2 spring to single spring at the top. The attached pictures show what I am referring to. Look at the wiring in the faulty picture. Of course pulling the hub was my last thing I looked at. Hence why I was getting a ground short and no brakes.
etrailer customer service get A+++

by:

I had the brake lining shatter off of one of the shoes. This happened within the first 100 miles after putting the new brakes on. Tore the drum up beyond repair. Working on getting the brakes replaced under warranty but I had to ship them the parts back first. Trailer is up on blocks until then.

by:

Love the dexter brakes, however their packaging is inadequate. Out of the 4 brake assemblies I bought 2 of them were partially disassembled.

Oh no! Customer Service will be in touch to assist you.

by:

Product was an exact fit. Much easier than fighting springs and hold downs even with the right tools. It took about 45 min. per wheel start to finish. Etrailer was very helpful when ordering parts.

by:

Ordered lots of parts on Monday, received most of them by Thursday. The received parts were well packaged and undamaged. A few of the parts they didn't have in stock so they had those drop-shipped to me which should be delivered in the next couple of days.
No supplier I have ordered any parts from has such a great technical reference web site or personal customer support. Yea, Rebecca - Well Done! Yes, I'm very happy with the pricing.
Thanks for your great support and I look forward to doing business with them again. More info to follow as soon as I can get the parts installed on my trailer.

by:

Exact replacement and easy to install.

by:

Christina J thanks for all your help the brake assembly was delivered extremely quick and installed easily!

by:

I was worried about putting brakes back together, this is an easy repair with only 5 nuts to put on and rewire. Information on getting the right or left brake was very good and made this an easy project.

Great, very happy

by:

You didn't have the brake assembly I wanted but had the 7k at a higher price. Was told there was no difference between the two. I bought the 7K but would like to know if there is no difference, why I was charged the higher price. I needed one so I didn't have much choice. Not Happy. I'll think twice and think again before purchasing from etrailer again.

by:

Product installed easily. Much more efficient than replacing the parts I would have needed and less costly. Part used on a Dexter 7000 lb RV axle.

Working well, as it should but it is on a 5th wheel and doesnt have s lot of moles on it.

by:

I had a dragging brake. When I disassembled, found bottom adjuster was dislodged and unattached spring. Magnet was very much melted. I reassembled the brake assembly good enough to travel to final designation. I ordered this brake assembly, p/N 23-465 for passenger side forward axle and it fit perfectly. I've driven approximately 3,000 miles since repair without issue. I highly recommend this product and company

by:

Excellent customer service and the brake units work great!

I traded last summer for a new one but the brakes worked just fine.

by:

Worked well to replace grease covered shoes and magnet. Lower cost than replacing individual components.

by:

eTrailer shipped the product the same day and I received these assemblies 2 days later. Great service!

Very easy product to install. Looking forward to getting my trailer on the road and test them out. Keep in mind you'll need to purchase the plugs for the backplate as the old ones usually are bridle and probably won't seal out the elements.

by:

Easy to install. I have taken several trips since then. I would buy this product again from etrailer!

by:

Replacement for 6000 lbs. original equipment brakes. Hoping for more stopping power as I usually tow near the limit of the trailer.
Installation was easy and straight-forward.
First impression is not much different but of course new brakes need to be burnished. The effectiveness is sure to increase. Overall happy :)

by:

Great price for a complete brake replacement. Way easier and not much more than just replacing the shoes. I upgraded from the 6000# that were on my fifth wheel to these 7000# ones. Also like the self adjusting feature.

by:

I discovered my brakes on the right side of my trailer were not working by feeling the drums after driving just 2 miles. They were cold, other side hot. Took apart and found no adjusters on ether wheel. Just part of adjuster spring on one wheel. Magnets were warn. So I just replaced the whole brake plate, cheeped and faster. They work great now. This I believe was caused by a blowout.

by:

Bought four complete brake assemblies
Delivery
was prompt , well packaged
Once installed they worked as described
E- trailer keeps the several trailers we own on the road and operating safely

  • Info Needed to Find Self Adjusting Trailer Brakes
The Dexter Nev-r-Adjust assembly part # 23-464 is a self-adjusting 12 inch by 2 inch assembly for a 7,000 lb axle that has a matching right side of # 23-465. If your trailer has a different size/capacity need let me know what that info is and I will set you up with the parts you are in need of. I attached an install video for the assemblies mentioned as well.

For a hub/drum that does fit the Timbren Axle Less System part # ASR35HDS02 the part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ is the recommended hub. The hub/drum you mentioned will not fit on this spindle. The only hubs that will fit the # ASR35HDS02 have 6 and 8 lug configurations. For brake assemblies then you'd want the part # 23-465 for the right hand side or part # 23-464 for the left hand side.

  • Dexter Nev-R-Adjust 6K and 7K Electric Brake Assembly
The Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly for 6K pound axles # 23-459, # 23-458 and the brake assembly for the 7K pound axles # 23-464, # 23-465 are interchangeable in that both are mounted on a 5-bolt pattern and would fit on 12 inch hub/drums. However, the 7K brake has a stronger magnet and upgraded brake shoes with greater stopping power than the 6K. Even though they would fit, you would not want to put the 6K Nev-R-Adjust # 23-459, # 23-458 on a trailer with a 7K pound axle. You...

  • Replacement Brake Assembly Recommendation for 2004 Fleetwood Prowler Regal 32'
Best option is to match the part number you found on your trailer. Realistically the 6k and 7k brake assemblies are mostly interchangeable as they both are 12 inch diameter by 2 inch width so either would technically fit, but going with the correct rating gives you a setup that's easiest to fine tune braking power. If you go with an assembly rated too high the magnet is more sensitive and you'll find that the brakes are harder to get the exact amount of braking power. It'll either feel...

  • How to Convert 7k Surge Brake Axles to Electric Brakes
You can pretty easily convert a trailer from surge brakes to electric brakes. It basically will require you to remove all of the hydraulic lines, lock out the actuator (or replace it), remove the hubs to replace the assemblies with electric units, and then wire up the assemblies. I attached a help article that will walk you through this entire process. • Weak Brake Troubleshooting and Replacement Brake Assemblies for 7k Trailer Axle
There are a couple things you should check before you would want to replace your brake assemblies. I would check the main ground for the trailer. This is the wire that runs from the trailer connector to the trailer frame and provides the ground for the entire trailer. The ground strap may have come loose and now may not be strong enough to fully apply the trailer brakes. Some brake assemblies are manually adjusted. They could very easily be in need of adjustment. Even if your brake controller is set to the highest setting, if your brakes are not adjusted properly then they will not perform correctly. Dexter would be the final authority on the capacities of their axles. For 7k rated Dexter brake assemblies you would want the part # 23-465 for the right hand side and part # 23-464 for the left hand side. What you described is not uncommon for Dexter axles. There are other instances where the difference between the capacities of two axle setups is either the assemblies or the hubs they put on them.
