Today, we're going to take a look at the Dexter 12-1/4" Duo Servo Left-hand Heavy-Duty Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly for 15,000 lb axles. This hydraulic drum brake assembly is designed for use with surge-type trailer brake actuators. This is a duo-plunger, duo-servo design, delivers the same amount of braking with driving either forward or in reverse. This also has a forward, self-adjust feature. The way you can tell that is if you look where the cable goes around the pulley and attaches to the lever, which adjusts the adjustment gear. This forward, self-adjust feature will self-adjust your brake when you are applying the brakes going forward, so it does not require periodic manual adjustment like standard brakes. Configuration on this is a left-hand, driver's-side assembly, and the easiest way to tell that .. Now on a new one, you'll have a sticker that'll designate it, but if the sticker isn't there, if you just look at the length of the brake pad, this one goes from here to here, and this one goes all the way from here to here, so this is a longer brake pad.
This one's the shorter brake pad. The shorter brake pad is the primary shoe. That will always fact the front of the trailer, so that will tell you that that is a left-hand, driver's-side assembly. Now the size on this is a 12-1/4" by 5", and where they measure that, the 12-1/4 will be the diameter from edge-to-edge here. If we put a ruler on it, there's your 12-1/4". The 5" will be the width of the brake pad itself, from here to here.
There's your 5", so 12-1/4 by 5". Now this does use a seven-bolt mounting flange. You can see the seven holes right there that attach to your brake-mounting flange on your axle. Now the mounting bolts to attach it, we do see those separately on our website. This assembly is DOT designed for a 15,000 lb axle.
