Perfect, no problem

Rec'd the spare tire mount today and mounted it on the rear bumper of our travel trailer in minutes. Looks great and seems that it will be stronger than the ones I saw on [online]. Most of them got bad reviews due to the metal bending or welds breaking. A lot of them had the square tubing welded at a 45 degree angle from the bumper plate. In my opinion, this puts the weight of the tire out away from the bumper mounting plate, thus more stress on the welds.

This one has the square tubing that is vertical and should put the majority of the spare tire weight closer to the bumper where it should be. I cut pieces of rubber tubing and put on the U bolts so they wouldn't wear on the bumper and rust it. Although, if the spare tire mounts shifts around to the point where the U bolts wear off the paint and rusts the bumper, I've got bigger probs than rust.

I also made a cable with a lock to secure the spare tire. I don't care if the tire gets stolen. I made it so I could just join the ends of the cable together with a lock. We pull our travel trailer 400 miles up to Lake Superior 4 or 5 times a year. The cable and lock is just to make sure should something happen to the mount, the tire stays with the trailer. It's interstate all of the up to Duluth for us and we go through Minneapolis. The last thing we need is the spare tire coming off and bouncing across 8 lanes of traffic at rush hour.

One minor thing: there is a little rust on one of the welds where it looks like the powder coat didn't take. No biggie. It just holds your spare tire, for Pete's sake. Other than that, I'm as happy as a clam.

If you are starting to experience rust, we do recommend covering any types of scratches or scrapes with a rust-oleum type of paint. This will prevent the carrier from experiencing any further corrosion. I have a link below for your reference.

Spare tire carrier still looks new and is solid as a rock.im very pleased with it. Thank you.

by:

Super easy installation. Honestly I didn't think it would be as sturdy as it is. -but it definitely is. Holds my 225/75 R15 spare nice and solid. I added the heat-shrink tubing to the U bracket and the rubber thread caps.

Its been a year and it still looks the same as it did when I bought it. The tire hasnt moved with over 2000 miles of traveling.

by:

So simple to install. Great way to carry your spares on long travels.

by:

Haven't installed it yet. Will update. The box was delivered damaged.

The original Casita spare tire carrier is poorly designed and placed. The Stromberg Carlson Spare Tire Carrier is exactly what I was looking for...secure, simple/easy install.

GR8! Still right where I put it. Check the nuts on a regular basis.

by:

It looks good and appears to be manufacture heavy duty. However it arrived a couple days later than thought to be, so I haven’t had a chance to install it on my equipment trailer. I’ll gladly update my review once it’s on the trailer with tire attached.

by:

Arrived very quick and look very nice.
Won't
be installing till spring because camper is in storage.
Now just need to get a tire and wheel for camper.

by:

We searched to find a spare tire carrier for our recently purchased 1962 Shasta Airflyte. This was perfect! It raised the tire high enough so we have no worries about bottoming out. We mounted spare tire on new rim with baby moon from E-Trailer. Looks great

by:

Listed for 14” rims also, but indicates otherwise. I checked the fitting and they work on my 14” rims.

by:

Photo shows spare tire mounted with the bumper mounted u-bolt mount TR-1 tire carrier we purchased from etrailer. Easy install and holds tire firmly, eliminates hauling spare in pickup box.

by:

Great product! Shopping with e trailer is amazing, very easy and hassle free!! Our go-to for all of our personal and business trailer needs!

by:

I had to replace my original spare tire mount due to it developing a crack completely across one of the mounting lug holes. This replacement mount bolted right up to my 4 inch square rear bumper just like the original did. I had it done in about 20 minutes. I replaced it on a Rockwood 2503S Mini Lite which has 14 inch tires and 5 hole wheels. I can’t give an opinion on its durability because I haven’t taken it on the road yet. Only after bouncing down the road for a while will I know how durable it is, but it looks and feels sturdy.

by:

Simple install, got my spare tire mounted, just need a little longer piece of steel to hold the wheel on the mount. Not a big issue, I had the extra steel in my shop. Much sturdier than I had anticipated so I’m very satisfied

by:

Great condition when arrived!

by:

Perfect replacement for a damaged original. Went on quick and easy with minimal effort. Well built.

by:

Excellent quality , easy to install

by:

solid construction and easy to install. I was able to offset it so I could use the receiver for a bike rack.

by:

fast shipping and good product. easy install instructions

by:

Great product, super easy install. Had it done in about 20 minutes. Says it’s for a 15 or 16 inch tire but, it holds my 205/75R14 just fine. I did take some vacuum tubing, split down the middle and put it on the u bolts where they rest against the bumper ( shown in photo with red arrow, just to avoid metal on metal). Great price point to solve a saltire storage problem.

by:

Exceptional quality & powder painted fi nish.

by:

Solid/ fits/ works

by:

Our fiberglass travel trailer came with a spare tire that bolted against the body of the trailer, leaving a permanent black donut on the gel coat. Never liked that setup. This spare tire carrier was a breeze to install, is extremely well-built and took care of my issue with the original spare tire holder.

It’s a strong unit. Still working as expected.

by:

Great product works as well as describe d.

Having had experience with trailer tire blow-outs, I decided to start carrying two spare tires (just in case). I already had one of these same spare tire carriers and needed to add the second. Works as advertised.

  • Spare Tire Carrier Designed to fit a 4 Inch Square Bumper
You would want the Bumper Mounted Spare Tire Carrier Part # TR-1. This carrier is designed to fit 4 inch by 4 inch bumpers and is powder coated steel to prevent corrosion. I wish we had one available galvanized but all we have are powdercoated carriers that will fit your 4 inch bumper. Check out the review video I attached for this product as well.

  • Offset Bumper-Mount Spare Tire Carrier for Use on 1-1/2- x 3-Inch 5th Wheel Bumper
We offer two bumper-mount RV-rated spare tire carriers, the fixed # TR-1 from Stromberg Carlson that you referenced, and also the Ultra-Fab Folding Spare Tire Carrier # UF15-954730. Both are designed to bolt on using included hardware to your RV's 4-inch bumper. Since your bumper is smaller than this you will first want to check your RV owner's manual for confirmation that the bumper is rated for use with clamp-on accessories and can handle the weight of your spare tire/rim. • Recommended Spare Tire Carrier For a 1972 Shasta 1400 Travel Trailer
I recommend using the Bumper Mounted Tire Carrier # TR-1 on your 1972 Shasta 1400. With the low ground clearance of your Shasta using a shorter mount like the Brophy # BR56VR would cause the tire to sit lower on the bumper and could lead to issues with the departure angle.

  • Can the TR-1 Bumper Mounted Tire Carrier Be Mounted Horizontally/Parallel to the Ground
No, the Bumper Mounted Tire Carrier # TR-1 cannot be mounted with the 18" arm running horizontal/parallel to the ground. I was not able to locate much about whether you could mount it that way or not, so I contacted the manufacturer. They said that it was not manufactured or tested to work while mounted in that manner and that it should only be used upright, like it is described in the instructions.

The rear of your 2017 Coleman Lantern Series 244BH has the standard 4 inch bumper. For this application, I recommend the Bumper Mounted Tire Carrier - U-Bolt Mount # TR-1. This will allow you to mount your spare tire to your back bumper. There are many different tire options for your trailer, but I was able to narrow it down a little based on a 15 inch wheel and Radial tire. CE Smith Offset Spare Trailer Tire Carrier # CE27310G only fits frames up to 3-1/2 inches wide but I do have a solution for you. You can use carrier # TR-1 which fits 4 inch square bumpers. It is also compatible with most 5, 6, and 8-lug bolt patterns besides a 5 on 5" bolt pattern. I also recommend installing the Spare Tire Carrier Lock # FSTL0603 to deter theft of your tire. • What is the Weight Capacity of Spare Tire Carrier # TR-1?
I reached out to a representative of the manufacturer of Tire Carrier # TR-1, Stromberg Carlson, and they said while the carrier did not have a specific weight limit, it was tested to 100,000 miles on 225/75R15 travel trailer tires that were 50 lbs. It is going to fit tires that are 15" to 16" and most 5-, 6- and 8-lug wheels on 4" square bumpers. I have added a link to a video review of this product for you to take a look at.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch and Spare Tire For a 2023 Coleman Lantern 17B
While there are more budget friendly weight distribution hitches out there like the Reese # RE94FR you found, I highly recommend getting one with more quality like the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0800. While both these have the same weight capacities of 400-800lbs of tongue weight and total trailer weight up to 8,000lbs the big difference is in the spring bars themselves.
