Video Transcript for Brophy Trailer Stake Pocket Spare Tire Carrier Review

Hey everybody Clayton here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Brophy stake pocket spare tire carrier. Now today, we're using it on a gooseneck trailer. So it is going to be pretty wide but this is typically going to be used on a utility trailer. Something a little bit smaller. Now this is going to be an awesome way to get another spare tire or even just a spare tire with our trailer.

Now you can find the according spare tire for your trailer here at etrailer. Today, we are using our spare tire carrier with a six lug wheel, but this is also going to work with five log and eight lug wheels. So that's going to cover a wide variety of different size wheels out there on the market. Now, the way this works is this bolt here on the left is able to slide in and out to work with those different sized lug patterns. Something that I like about this kit is it is going to include all the hardware we need to get our spare mounted.

Our spare tire carrier is going to work with your standard stake pocket for a two by four. Again, this is going to be very common depending on what trailer you have. So you just want to check your stake pockets and make sure that those are going to work with a two-by-four. Removing your spares going to be pretty easy. Just want to grab a 21 millimeter socket and loosen these up.

Now you don't have to over-tighten these. You just want to make sure that they're not going to shake and wiggle on you when you're going down the road. And as I was saying this nut here on the left side is actually slotted. So it's going to be able to slide back and forth. It's just secured with this washer.

So you're not going to have to worry about this coming out. As you can see, it's nice and secure but it is going to work depending on what tire size you have. Will this working with your standard stake pocket chances are going to be able to flip flop this back and forth between trailers. So that's really nice as well. Our spare tire carrier is going to be constructed out of a durable metal. So you're not going to have to worry about that. And it also has a really nice black powder coat finish to help resist that rust and corrosion which is going to keep it looking great while it's going down the road. So you might be asking yourself how is our spare tire carrier going to be supported in our stake pocket As you can see it's not going to wiggle or shake anything like that. And that's because we have a metal plate with a bolt on the bottom. So this threads right into the bottom of our spare tire carrier using a nut plate inside the spare tire carrier that's going to give us a really secure connection. This can be removed just using a 19 millimeter socket. got that removed our spare tire carrier simply lifts out of the stake pocket. Taking a closer look at our carrier. I just want to get you guys a couple of recommendations or measurements here just for your different trailers. Now from here to here is about three inches. So you want to make sure that your stake pocket is at least three inches deep. Now ours is about four, so that's perfect. That's going to be here to just before where our bracket is now. Now, if your stake pocket is pretty deep, you might need to pick up a different bolt from your local hardware store. Now looking at some of our reviews from our customers they we're saying that this actually rattles and shakes a little bit in the stake pocket. I think that's just due to the fact of their stake pocket not being totally flat at the bottom, which if that is the case, you can use a washer or a spacer between the bottom here and your actual bracket that goes on the bottom to keep that nice and secure. Now, if you do want to grind some of that material off and make it flat, you most definitely could do that. All in all this is a really great product. I like how versatile it is. Like I said, you could bounce this back and forth between different trailers or maybe you get a new trailer. This is going to work just fine for you. That's pretty much going to do it for our look at the Brophy stake pocket spare tire carrier..

Well, this is a very well made product. After reading all the reviews and watching the videos I purchased it to use facing in on my 102" trailer. It didn't fit with my spare due to the tire size. I'm sure I've voided the warranty, but I cut it partially apart and welded some angle iron to it to mount my spare flat on the deck. Long story short, it worked well for me with some modification. Just use caution if you need it to mount inward on your trailer.

Still holding up and working perfectly. Still havent repurposed the poket part yet though, but Im sure I will some day.

by:

Was a bit disappointed with how this item fit into my stake pocket. I either have to modify the length to make it shorter so the bolt will keep the tire holder tight or just weld it in place in the stake pocket. Have not decided which way I am going to go. Probably just weld it in place.

Thank you for your review. This spare tire carrier is designed for standard 2 x 4 trailer stake pockets.

by:

Spare tire carrier for the stake pockets fits as designed. Simple streamlined design makes installation quick and easy. Trailer has deeper stake pockets than the average pocket so longer bolts were needed for install. Otherwise a solid design.

by:

Great quality, tight fit with no rattle. Perfect.

by:

This set up did not work for our trailer. The stake/down section is too long. That means it would not tighten up in the slot.

We attempted to drill and run bolts through to modify it. That did not work either.

While a nice idea, sadly this did not work for us.

by:

Works like it is supposed to and is a great addition to my trailer.

Spare tire carrier worked like a champ.

by:

Arrrived quick, easy install

by:

What I was looking for. However it's a little wobbly in the pocket after mounting. The bottom brace won't tighten down enough. Probably will get a little weld.

by:

Great product and great service, definitely be doing business here again

by:

Very pleased with my purchase. Installed it on my trailer and install was easy. Great product

by:

The length of the stake is a little long, so it does wobble. I will fix that later. Other than that, it does the job.

Thanks!

Bought my Brophy Trailer Stake Pocket Spare Tire Carrier one year ago to the date and have not had any issues with it. I had concerns about the nuts backing out over time, but we have not had that happen! If you're looking for a trustworthy spare tire carrier, this is the one for you!

by:

I received the package yesterday evening, I opened the box but have not looked at it closely or installed it on trailer yet. But It arrived earlier then expected which was great. I received the adjustable drop hitch and 2 inch ball On Monday that also was recieved early. It was in very good condition, easy to assemble and Adjust, Heavy product.

I would recommend E-trailer to everyone as they have great customer service and products!

by:

I'm giving this 3 stars but beware of your trailer construction. This carrier caused enough vibration to break the welds on my stake pocket causing it to fail. The tire carrier broke off on a bridge in Manhattan. Lost the tire and all, lucky didn't kill someone or cost me my life savings from being sued!

by:

works great good product.

by:

Nice heavy product. Very easy to install in stake pocket. The only thing of concern is the potential of movement from side to side, and maybe front to back. Would be great if it included some form of wedge style tightening to pocket area.

Not so great! Had to modify with welding to make it less wobbly! Very frustrated!

by:

It is built reasonably well. I planned to mount it on the side of my trailer, but it is too long. It puts the tire out quite a bit further than the fender so I can't use it. I went a different route for mounting my spare.

by:

Nice option for carrying my spare that I hadn't seen until looking on etrailer.com. Easy to take on and off as needed and seems sturdy enough to last for a long time. Fast shipping too!

by:

Great, well built , and easy to install ! Works perfectly!

by:

Removable if the need arises, can be mounted wheel-in or wheel-out.

by:

This carrier is as advertised, it is well built, and will do exactly what it is made for. My only concern is that it is loose in the stake pocket so I will have to engineer something to make it more rigid.. If I don't it will wind up cracking or damaging the pocket.

by:

Seems like a nice, sturdy spare tire carrier. It comes with extra lug nuts to mount the spare tire - which is a plus in my book. It appears powder coated so it should provide plenty of years of service without showing any rust or wear.

by:

This stake pocked spare carrier is very well built, and feels stable in the install. The only issue I'm having is that the bottom plate is forcing the carrier to lean outward somewhat once it's tightened down. I'll have to take a file to the hole on the bottom plate to allow for a bit of adjustment, as an elliptical hole would allow for some variance when you're putting everything together. Also, it would be nice if the fixed bolt on the plate had a pre-drilled hole so you could add a lock.

by:

Used on my 16 foot trailer. Attaches with a bolt so quick removal for security not an issues. Good heavy quality. Works perfectly for my needs. Quick shipping.

by:

Very easy to install. Initially I was concerned that it would stick out too far but was satisfied after I mounted the tire on it. It sticks out about an inch farther than trailer wheels. Good quality.

  • Spare Tire Mount for Trailer that Can Fit 8 Lug Wheel and Trailer with Stake Pockets

  • Trailer Stake Pocket Tire Carrier With Rub Rail Attached
The Demco stake pocket spare tire carrier won't work with rub rail as the bolts are not long enough. Something that can work is the Brophy Trailer Stake Pocket Spare Tire Carrier # SPTC.
