When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Product works but when I back up. The actuator moves back and the brakes go on! Don’t know how to fix this. Now I put a c clamp on it to stop it from going in.

Thanks for your review of your Titan actuator coupler T4747200, while the C-clamp works, there is a safer way to deactivate the surge brakes on your coupler. You can use an item called a reverse lock out. This will get signal from your tow vehicle when it is in reverse and will NOT apply the brakes on the trailer allowing you to back up. For your Model 6 actuator you can use the T4748800 lock out solenoid, and you may want a cover like T4836800183 as a solenoid shield that will help protect the reverse lock out solenoid. You will need to make sure that the solenoid is connected to the tow vehicle reverse light circuit, so if you have a 7-way on the trailervehicle then you would need to splice in and connect to the correct line. I have included a link to one of our help articles that shows the various locations of the reverse line depending on how the trailer is wired. If you have a 4-way flat, you can convert it to a 5-way taht will splice into the vehicle side reverse wiring, and the kit HM47890 includes both the trailer and vehicle side wiring harness. Another option for wiring the vehicle is to use a 5-Way adapter like part 47515 which will allow you to leave the 4-Way wiring connector on your vehicle and add the reverse light circuit to the adapter when towing this trailer.

  • Recommended Disc Brake Conversion For Tandem Axle Boat Trailer With 13 Inch Wheels
We don't have a kit for 13 inch wheels, but I can give you all the components you need. For your rotor/hubs, you will need 2 of the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 8" Rotor/Hub - 5 on 4-1/2 - Dacromet - 3,500 lbs # K2HR35D-8. This will require 4 of the # L68149 bearings, 4 of the # L44649 bearings and 2 of the Grease Seal - Double Lip - ID 1.719" / OD 2.565" - for 3,500-lb Axles - Qty 2 # RG06-050. Then you will need the tandem brake lines, and I recommend the Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit...

  • Does the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator T4747200 Have a Reverse Lockout
The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator part # T4747200 does not come with a lockout but one can be added easily using the Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts part # T4748800. The lockout is what allows you to back up the trailer without locking up the brakes.

  • Hydraulic Trailer Brakes Lock Up Moving Forward Using Titan Brake Actuator
Disc brake actuators like # T4747200 do not have a check valve in them or a device to keep pressure in the system like drum brake actuators do. On a drum brake actuator there is a check valve inside the master cylinder that regulates the amount of pressure that goes back to the brakes. The wheel cylinders on hydraulic drum brakes will hold pressure as well. If the master cylinder and wheel cylinders (if the trailer has drum brakes) are fine then you could have some air in the system or...

  • How to Bleed Trailer Surge Brakes
There are a couple of ways you can bleed a trailer brake system. Titan offers the following instructions, which I have also linked for you, on bleeding the brakes: Remove the master cylinder cap and fill the reservoir to three quarters full with DOT-3 brake fluid. DO NOT allow brake fluid to contact painted surfaces since it will damage the finish. Wipe up any spills immediately and wash the area with water. If you choose to manually bleed the system, an assistant makes the job easier....

  • Will Titan Disc Brake Kit # T4747200 Fit Tandem Axle Boat Trailer w/ 3500 Axles
We do have a kit with a larger capacity coupler available, Titan Disc Brake Kit and Actuator # T4747200. I recommend this kit, but you will need to check a few things to make sure it will work on your trailer. You will need to check your bolt pattern and wheel size, check your bearing numbers, check to see if the other axle has a brake mounting flange, and measure the trailer tongue. To make sure that your bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2 inches, you can measure two different ways. The first...

Yes, the Titan Premier Disc Brake Kit # T2HRCM10DAC will work as a starting point to upgrade your existing drum brakes to Disc on your 1995 Caulkins Boat Trailer. This Kit is Dacromet-plated to help resist corrosion and includes the hub/rotors, calipers, mounting brackets and hardware for the mounting brackets. You will need the Bearings # L44649 and # L68149, and Grease Seal # 58846 to complete the axle portion for this kit. I recommend using the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R35S as it...

  • How to Know What Weight Rating is Needed When Converting from Drum to Disc Brakes
Good questions and there is a lot here so let's start with the simplest thing, the weight rating. Trailer brakes are rated based on their axle; for example, the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR35D-8 is designed for a 3,500 lb axle and a tandem axle trailer with a pair of 3,500 lb axles would need two of these, so the first thing to know is the weight rating of your axles. Then to get the correct fit, since you are replacing a hub and drum, you are going to need a disc brake kit with a hub...

  • Replacement for Titan Model 6 Trailer Brake Actuator
That is a great photo, thank you; and while there are certain repair parts available for a Titan Model 6, I recommend replacing it altogether. The reason for this is the corrosion looks to have taken its toll on the actuator, and is at the point where a replacement makes the most sense in terms of safety and value. The Titan Model 60 is still a good option, and the right one will depend on if you have disc or drum brakes: - Disc Brakes: Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Disc - 2-5/16"...

  • Replacement Actuator Recommendation for Atwood 82541
The Atwood actuator you mentioned is no longer available but we can help replace it. To replace it I recommend the Titan, part # T4747200. • Difficulty Bleeding Trailer Brakes with Titan Model 6 Actuator
It does take quite a bit of force to manually push in an actuator with or without the cap on. But the cap should be off when you bleed the brakes. Also, the longer the board the more leverage you can put on the coupler and the easier it will be to move it. I recommend using a vacuum pump brake bleeder # PTW87030 which makes things a lot easier. Also it is worth mentioning that if the fluid has no where to go then the actuator will only push in so far. So if you haven't opened a bleeder...

  • How to Reset Breakaway Of Titan Model 6 Actuator
I will be happy to explain resetting the breakaway lever on the Titan Model 6 actuator, # T4747200. The manual states: Resetting the Break-away Lever: . When the break-away lever (item 7) is engaged, it is in the vertical position. It must be reset before the trailer is moved. First, carefully loosen the pressure line fitting to the master cylinder to relieve hydraulic pressure. Then remove the four bolts (item 10) that secure the master cylinder assembly to the outer case. The flat...

In regards to installation, this will be up to you as Titan does not provide any sort of write-up for this, mostly because the people who make this repair are trained technicians. • Adding Electric Brakes To A Triton Boat Trailer With 10" Wheels
I can certainly point you in the right direction. First and foremost we would want to verify that your axle does in fact have a brake flange. Some smaller axles do not come with brake flanges, and this will be required in order to install electric brakes. We do carry a brake mounting flange # 4-35 which can be fabricated to fit your axle if needed. We also need to verify what kind of axle is on your trailer. Specifically we need to know the inner and outer bearing sizes. This will tell...

  • Actuator Recommendation for a Triple Axle Trailer Going from Drum Brakes to Disc Brakes
Some drum brake actuators can have the check valve removed or punctured to allow it to function disc brake setups, but this won't work for a triple axle brake setup because drum brake actuators just don't have the volume to activate the disc brakes. Basically you are going to need to replace your actuator since the one you currently have won't be able to activate your new brakes. There is an off-chance that you could replace the master cylinder of the actuator and be able to convert your...

  • Can the Check Valve on a Titan Drum Brake Actuator be Removed for Use with Disc Brakes
Technically, the check valve on the drum actuator, # T4079200, can be removed. However, it is not recommended to do so because you could end up damaging the master cylinder. It would be best to go with the appropriate actuator, # T4747200. You could also replace the master cylinder in the drum brake actuator using the disc brake master cylinder # T1777405.

  • Which Titan Zinc Plated Surge Brake Actuator will Work with Drum Brakes
The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - 2-5/16 inch Ball - Bolt On - 8,000 lbs, is the coupler you would need to order for use with drum brakes. The difference between the drum and disc actuator couplers is that the drum brakes have a check valve that holds a small amount of brake line pressure on the system, so that when the brakes are applied they will immediately apply the brakes, with no time lag for building initial pressure. Disc brake systems do not require this check valve...
