This replaced a much smaller winch that came stock on my trailer. My stock winch bent pulling my boat up the last few inches on the trailer. This winch has plenty of torque and is quite beefy. I like the two speeds as well. I have a 26' boat that probably weighs about 5,000 lbs and is on a non roller trailer. I highly recommend this winch.

by:

I have used Dutton Lainson products for years. They are a quality product. Even better when you put this 3200 lb winch on sale.
Thanks.

by:

Great product, exceeds my expectations. Great customer service and follow up

by:

One year - it’s great so far. I will definitely follow up in a year or two for a real review.

by:

I used the new winch and 10,000 lb strap for the first time this week-end. Worked like a charm pulling our cruiser onto the trailer.

The winch is absolutely fantastic! Works like a charm and pulls like a team of draft horses! I wish I would have purchased this product 15 years ago with my boat. Thanks for the follow-up.

by:

We have this winch attached to a round bale cart. We use it to lift 1200 lb round bales of hay onto the cart for transport and unrolling. So far it is holding up and working well. Just a month or two leeft of feeding hay.

Prior to buying this one I have had two others of lesser size, quality and lower price that didn't last one season.

Rocking C.

Still working well. No issues. The two speed is very handy for us.

by:

(winch is 5 stars) box was destroyed in shipping, that is why only 4 stars.
winch is MUCH more powerful in low gear than the one it replaced. will help a lot pulling the boat the last few inches on the trailer.

by:

Bought for boat trailer, 2800lb boat. Walks it right up the trailer, smooth operation. Only used a few times but solid so far.

by:

Received the DL3200A winch with free shipping ahead of time due to Etrailer up grading the shipping for free. I have the winch installed on my boat trailer and it works great. I would recommend Etrailer because of their great service and expediting the winch to me without extra charge.

by:

So far all is good. definitely heavy duty. way heavier and stronger than the one I replaced. hopefully it works as well as it looks.

Works great best winch Ive ever purchased

by:

One heavy duty winch! Using it on a 22 ft plate boat. The standard winches came apart on this trailer. Highly recommend it.

by:

Great price and Supierior quality, can't go wrong , had a cheap $[XX] one from Amazon striped main gear on first trip, this one is beefy and made in USA !!!

by:

I have a bunk trailer with carpet. My boat is a C-Dory 22’ cruiser. This winch is awesome! There are times I am at a shallow ramp so I have pull the boat more on bunks then float. Having a low gear makes this effortless. Only thing I really do not like it the removable handle. I always worry it could be stolen. I have been meaning to order a spare. Would be more awesome to have a socket attachment for electric drill.

Dan

It’s a great winch. I have a bunk trailer and low tide retrieval is much easier now.

by:

very stout, very well made - I ordered also an extra handle to keep in the boat in case I lose the one that comes with it.

I received my package ahead of schedule, it was an easy install.
I think it will work well, but have not put it to the test yet. I’m

by:

Wind ripped one of my old wenches right off my dock leaving the bolts in place and the winch and cable to shore post in the water. I ordered two of these very heavy duty winches and replaced both the old ones and so far they are doing a great job and have no problem dealing with the high winds we get at the lake. I would have given it 5 stars except for one problem. The winch handle is removable and got knocked off during install and fell into the water. Had to order another handle. I now leave the handles in the dock closet rather than risk losing another one. I rarely need to attached the cables that keep my floating dock in place. If yours is going on a trailer I would recommend not leaving it attached.

Roger W.

Working great, no rust, no problems, two on dock with cables to shore as dock floats. High quality wenches.

by:

I have a bad back and recently was diagnosed with congestive heart failure so I have lost a good deal of my strength. My boat is a 16 1/2 Alumacraft with a 60 horse Mercury motor and in the past, I had no trouble loading it with my old single stage winch. My new winch is just what the doctor ordered. It makes reloading easy again. My only problem was that the handle fell off on the way to the lake first time out. I found it laying on the shoulder but it incurred some damage as the clip holder was gone and the rubber handle cover was flattened from being run over.

Dennis E.

8/1/2016

I lost 2 more handles because they just fell off. I now detach the handle and carry it in the boat. Otherwise, it works just fine.

by:

Bought this 3200 lb winch to put on my boat trailer, it pulls my 11,000 lb boat up on the trailer with ease, the only issue i can see is the removable handle, looks like it could vibrate off on a rough road. Ill just keep in in the truck, shipping was quick and boxed well, ill order another one if i ever wear this one out.

Lee W.

It worked flawlessly for one year and then the locking brake tooth wore off, can I get that replacement part?

Thanks for the follow up Lee, the replacement part that you are needing is indeed available as # DL404917.

by:

good solid winch, didn’t come with mounting bolts but not the end of the world. Looks like it’ll last a long time. Thanks for fast shipping

by:

I gave it 5 stars but can't get the star to highlight.
I love this winch. Looked at several winches at a boat storage facility and saw this winch over and over on big boat trailers. The older ones looked like they had held up well.
The drum is welded very well. Sides can't easily separate from the spool. The gears, though laminated, are thick tempered steel. The frame is the same thick steel not the flimsy crap at the farm store. If you mount it solid it will do a good job.
I welded a 6x6x1/4 x 20" length of tubing above tongue of utility trailer behind jack. Bolted winch to top of tubing and ran cable thru a roller fairlead mounted on front of trailer bed. The tubing adds height to winch to keep cable from dragging on bed and gives clearance between winch crank handle and trailer tongue frame. I added a door to end of tubing so I can use it for extra storage. Using a snatch block and 50' of 5/16" stainless cable I can drag pretty much anything up onto trailer bed.
Consider the same winch with brake if freewheeling / unspooling of cable is a concern. With proper lubrication this thing freewheels easily. I keep crank handle on winch for a little back pressure when unspooling cable and straighten any loose cable on drum before winching to prevent cable overlap.
Overall I am very happy with all purchases from etrailer. They have what I need and ship it quickly. Great to do business with.

by:

I have us this winch everyday since I put it on. It puts my 26'ft. boat on the trailer so easy that I have to check to make sure it is not slipping and it is not. Thanks for a great product. I will use etrailer again.

Marlin

1/16/2018

I just sold the trailer but the winch was working pretty at that time. Great product.

by:

Great product, heavier duty than I was expecting. 5 star service, shipped same day as ordered. Will definitely use etrailer again.

by:

This was a direct replacement of a poorly cared for winch. It fit perfectly, operates as expected, and provided proper care should last a very long time!

John S.

10/17/2017

The parts have held up well, with proper care. Our use is around salt water, typically parts can get abused by nature. Theyve performed well.

by:

Winch has performed well, I use it with a strap and winch a 7000 lbs. boat onto my trailer. The crank does change direction when you put it into the lower gear range and it can be a pain to operate in that direction when you are standing on a trailer tongue above the water. It does see a lot of salt water use and it hasn't corroded. I am not sure I like the detachable handle. I get worried about leaving it at home or forgetting it on the winch when I pull out of the launch, but I just keep track of it.

E trailer is a great source for trailer equipment. Always spot on with price and delivery

  • Recommended Brake Winch For Boat Trailer To Pull 3500lb Boat
You may be able to use the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch - Worm Gear - Hex Drive - 2,000 lbs # DL11004 you were looking at to load your 3500lb boat on your boat trailer, but it will come down to how long the winch distance is, and if your trailer has carpeted bunks or roller bunks. The standard rule of the thumb is 2-to-1 boat to winch ratio which would mean the # DL11004 would work up with up to a 4000lb boat. If you have roller bunks and are winching a short distance then the winch would...

  • Can a Winch Cable Be Replaced with a Hand Winch Strap On a 2006 Aluminum Loadrite Trailer
With a 5,200 pound rated trailer and a 4500 pound boat you are getting to the upper end of the capacity rating for winches with a strap. That is most likely why your winch has a cable installed on it. Some winches are set up so that a cable or a strap with hook can be used. If a strap, item # DL24251, can be used on your winch there will be holes in the cable drum sides, directly across from each other, to put a bolt through that the strap attaches to. If your drum is not set up in this...

  • Strap Winch for Boat Trailer with Rollers
You can use a strap type winch instead of a cable winch so long as your trailer's rollers are in good shape and the weight of your 28-ft Cuddy is not more than 3-times the winch's rating. Rollers allow you to use a winch rated for as low as 1/3 of the boat weight. I suggest the 2-Speed Boat Trailer Winch # 315-W3200D which is rated for 3200-lbs and which has a 20-foot strap.

  • Replacement Winch for 25 Foot Party Barge Pontoon Boat
It sounds like an upgrade is definitely in order. The Dutton-Lainson two speed winch you referenced, part # DL15440 would actually be an excellent choice for a heavier boat like your party barge. Dutton-Lainson winches offer a good balance between performance and cost. A two speed jack is ideal for getting a heavier boat up onto a trailer, the lower speed works well for getting the boat lined up and started onto the trailer, and the higher gear offers additional mechanical advantage to...

  • How to Pick Out Manual Boat Winch
Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with roughly half the capacity as the weight of the boat. With good rollers and a short winching distance the ratio increases to 3 to 1, but with long winching distances and wooden bunks like what you currently have the ratio is 1 to 1. I recommend going with the Fulton XLT 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142425. You are correct that Shelby is no longer in business. Based on my research it looks like your Shelby 5470A is a 2,800 pound hand winch. I wasn't able to locate the drum capacity on the 5470A but the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15440 that you mentioned can store up to 30 feet of 3/8 inch cable.
