This is the second Dutton Brake Winch I have purchased. Great quality and made in the USA. The brake function is well worth the cost. Mine are used to lift items in my garage onto a rolling work surface and and one for loading items into my pickup.

I have not built the pickup truck unit but plan to soon. I will review it then, with a pic.
Works great as a keel winch on my sailboat! Make sure you get the handle on the left side!
This is a very good winch. I am using it in a dredging operation alongside a yellow Tyler winch. In comparison, the Dutton-Lainson winch is much smoother and easier to crank with the same amount of load.
I would not hesitate to buy another.
Excellent product. Used it in a barn ventilation application for raising and lowering curtain. My son can now operate the winch without fear of the winch spinning out of control like a typical winch with a toggle-operated brake. And the left side handle was perfect for aligning the cable coming off the curtain pulley.

Its been in operation for a year and still working out great! Brake holds winch from spinning out of control - just remember to turn the handle two clicks to set the brake after each use.
The winches work great.
It is exactly what I hoped for when I ordered... i normally like to put my hands on something before I buy it ... guess I'm old in some ways... and when I received it it installed without any problems... so for it being the 1st thing ordered on the internet without any help from friends and family it was a pleasant experience.

Still working great. I found it only needs 10.6# weitght on it constantly vs the 50# recommended minimum operating load to keep the cable from unraveling on the spool. I highly recommend Dutton-Lainson porducts.
