AJ: What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we'll be checking out a replacement hand crank winch strap from Dutton-Lainson. Now when you buy a winch, it doesn't necessarily come with the best strap for your application. With a bigger boat here today, the strap that was on the winch that came with it didn't hold up, so we've got to replace it with something way more heavy duty that's going to last a longer time. Let's take a look. We're going to have the strap side by side, you can see why we needed to replace it. This one's stitching, it doesn't have as much as our new heavy duty one here.

It looks like there's more compact and reinforced stitching there. This one only has a couple passes of it and that's probably why it started ripping up like that. And before long, it'll probably rip completely off. The strap itself is thicker. If you look at that and see how it looks compared to this seatbelt style material, way thinner.

I know this one's going to hold up longer just by looking at it.You also got the hooks. So it's rusty now, and the snap guard just stays in place. It's not supposed to do that. It's supposed to snap. Watch this on the new one.

It's supposed to do that. So when you hook it on, boom, it's reinforced just in case it's loose and it pops back like that. It doesn't pop completely off the loop we've attached it to here. Not to mention the hook itself is way thicker than the old one. It has a tensile strength of 10,000 pounds.

So overall, you can see how much of an improvement this strap is going to be to the old one. This winch strap is 25 feet long by two inches wide. It also works with winches up to 3700 pounds and has a breaking point of 6600. It's definitely time to get this one off the winch and install the new one.So I'm going to back out the strap so I can get to the hardware. It looks like when they installed this one they ran it through the holes here on the side to keep it in place. So I'm going to try and work those out. Another option you have is you could just cut it and move on. We're going to try and get all this old strap out. We're going to run a bolt through the back end here of the winch and make sure it goes through the loop here to the other side. And now we had to use our own hardware today because the 3-inch and 3-inch and 1/4 bolts weren't long enough for our winch. Once that's through, we'll go ahead and add the nut on the other side.Nice and tight, but you want to do it too tight. You don't want to warp the winch itself. With that tightened down, I'm going to try and remove my hand. The bolt's going to move up and down a little bit, but that's fine. It's not going to come out. So we'll start rolling it up. I'm going to try and make sure it stays in the center. So pull back on the strap a little bit as you roll it up. With that wound all the way back up on the winch I'm going to inaudible 00:03:06 our hook to our boat and tighten it up.Now we replaced our hand winch strap. That's it. It was that easy. That does it for our look at a Dutton-Lainson hand winch strap. Hope this helped.

Direct replacement!

Great so far.

One heavy duty winch! Using it on a 22 ft plate boat. The standard winches came apart on this trailer. Highly recommend it.

by:

You manage to deliver exactly what you said you would.

by:

Just installed, nice.
Much heavier than
old.
Will give it a work out this weekend ...

by:

Heavy duty strap, also came with mounting bolt so you don’t have to re-use old bolt. Looks well made and should hopefully last a while

by:

Works great on my 2 speed winch. Bought a drill adapter for the winch so I can take off the handle and winch my boat on the trailer. The extra strength strap worked great for that!

by:

I have found on two occasions where etrailers were able to find the exact part. I did not like the factory brake controller on my 2017 Durmax. It would shut off all brake inputs due to the slightest weakness sensed in just one of 4 trailer brakes. This was very disconcerting Since I live in the mountains of Colorado. The Chevrolet dealership I bought the truck from said there is no fix for that and external trailer brake system could not be added. Etrailers had the exact brake controller and the service number to give to General Motors so they could correctly install the brake controller. My latest purchase was for surge brakes of a 1996 Atwood break system. Atwood has long since gone out of business but E trailer was able to find the exact fit from another namebrand. My hats off to the trailer and the supportive staff that was able to patiently help me through these difficulties.

Replacement strap, from Dutton Lainson. I can trust that this strap will do its part to keep the boat on the trailer. It is now my 3rd strap in 14 years as I replace them every 4-5 years. It is worth it knowing that the strap is from D-T and rated for the load.

by:

Nice strap. Way better than the seatbelt material.

The shipping was fast and no problems and will order again . I installed the winch and strap with no problems. The holes lined up and used my old hardware. I used the DL24250 strap it’s a little heavier then my old strap..

by:

Well built product that has been working great. It is a bit over capacity for my boat but it makes loading a breeze when I am on a steep ramp.

by:

excellent quality products, fast shipping. I ordered a winch, rollers and a coupler hitch. etrailer will be my first choice in the future for trailer supplies and equipment. Thank You!

by:

Used this strap instead of the wire cable the winch came with. Excellent quality for marine use. Easy to swap out.

by:

  • Recommended High-Speed Hand Winch for Light Loads
For quicker take-up action, you'll want a two-speed hand winch. The perfect one for your application would be the Dutton-Lainson Two Speed # DL14730. It has two gear ratios, and the one you'd want to use is 5.4:1, which means you'd need to crank the handle about 5-1/2 times for a complete drum revolution. The drum has a large strap capacity of 38 feet, and you can use the Dutton-Lainson # DL24250.

  • Recommended Electric Winch for Boathouse and 3000-lb Boat/Trailer
I suggest the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25001 for your fixed-mount boathouse installation. This 12V-powered winch has a 3000-lb load capacity and operates at 4-feet per minute when under a full load. It includes a 25-foot cable and hook. If you need an AC-powered version use part # DL25046 which has a 50-foot cable. Both can be used with a 2-inch strap like # DL24250 and both have a continuous run time limit of 4 minutes before cool-down.

  • Replacement Strap with Nut and Bolt for Dutton Lainson Winch
Instead of the part # IMF14211 I have a better solution for you. Check out the part # DL24250. This is a 25 foot long strap with more than enough capacity than you would need that comes with the install nut and bolt.

  • Boat Winch Recommendation for 2005 Bayliner 225
In general you only need 50 percent of the total boat trailer weight as winch capacity, but if there are longer winch lengths with wooden bunks you'd need to match the capacity of the winch with the boat. So based on that the Dutton Lainson part # DL15440 that you referenced would be an excellent choice. This has a 3,200 lb capacity which would work well for your boat's weight. Then for a strap we have the part # DL24250 which is 25 feet long, fits this winch, and has more than enough capacity...

  • Winch Strap Replacement For 25 Foot Mirage Boat
For your replacement winch strap I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch Strap # DL24250. This will work great to pull your boat onto the trailer and the full weight of the boat will not be at the strap as the bunk boards and water will support much of the weight. The length and bright color will help as well. This has a working load of 3,700 lbs and a break strength rating of 6,600 lbs.

  • Boat Winch Strap for a 5,000 lb Boat
I wasn't able to get a decent shot of the winch strap in that ad but if I can get more info on teh winch I am sure we have a replacement. Like what brand and model and the width of the strap and how it attaches to drum.

  • Trailer Winch Recommendation for 26 Foot Long Pontoon Boat
The Dutton-Lainson two speed winch, part # DL15440 would be an excellent choice for a heavier boat like your pontoon. Dutton-Lainson winches offer a good balance between performance and cost. A two speed jack is ideal for getting a heavier boat up onto a trailer, the lower speed works well for getting the boat lined up and started onto the trailer, and the higher gear offers additional mechanical advantage to get the boat pulled up and seated correctly on he trailer. For wire rope you'd...

  • Recommended Reversible Hand Winch for Controlled Launch and Loading of 15 Foot Jon Boat
What you are looking for is a reversible ratchet pawl, and they are not uncommon. For your 15 foot Jon Boat, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish, Two Speed with Direct Drive - 3,200 lbs # DL15440. This will give you the reverse function as well as the two speed drive. I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch Strap # DL24250 for this application.

  • Replacement Strap Width on Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042
You are correct. This Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL17042 does use a standard 2" wide strap for easy replacement. A good replacement strap for this winch would be # DL24250 which has a 3700-lb capacity and provides 20 feet of length to work with.
