Recommended Replacement Cable Or Replacement Trailer Winch

Question:

i cannot find a hand winch anywhere online like the one i have on my current trailer. I have a flatbed car trailer with a giant manual winch that can pull over 10,000lbs up the ramps. It is a chore to get a full size pickup truck there because it has no gears just a differential style pinion gear setup like in an axle is the best to describe it. And the cable is nearly 1/2 inch thick and all rusted and frayed from over 30 years of abuse. I want to replace the cable and want to add a heavy duty hand winch that can pull at least 10000lbs like this one but they do not exist anymore it seems. so what manual winch is out there?

You are correct in saying they don't make hand winches like that anymore. We top out at 3200 lbs with the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish, Two Speed with Direct Drive # DL15440 for a manual option. Then Electric comes into play. We only have one winch that is over 7800 lbs and it is the Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch - Wireless Remote - Synthetic Rope - Hawse Fairlead - 12,000 lbs # BDW10040.

My recommendation if you want a manual winch is to take apart the one you've got, clean it up as best you can and add a new cable. For the cable I recommend the Bulldog Winch Synthetic Rope for Winch Up To 12,000 lbs - 9mm x 100' # BDW20083.
