Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

They did the trick! Replaced tires/wheels that were 23 years old. I guess it was time....Tire tread: very nice. Brass tire valve: perfect. Galvanized wheel finish: Seen better, but good enough..

by:

Shipped the same day as ordered and arrived ahead of projection. The rim and tire met my expectations based on appearance, but I've not yet seen how it performs.

by:

Got a set of these tires on rims for a tag-along m'cycle trailer last summer. They came mounted on rims, and they were still only half the price of the tires alone from the local shop. Good deal!

I've pulled the trailer about 2k miles so far & have had zero issues from the tires. Just remember to check your wheel bearings, since the smaller tires run at faster RPM & the hub can get pretty hot.

Excellent tires & a great deal from etrailer. Thx!

Another year, another few thousand miles on the wheeltires. Continue to perform very welw w no issues. Glad I made the purchase!

by:

It was easy to find the right product, the pricing was very reasonable, shipping was free and the delivery was quick and accurate! I´m very pleased. The new wheels look good on the old trailer!

The shipping was super fast!!!

Tires are serving me very well the past 2 years, I use them to haul bi-weekly, even made it across the country and back, twice.

Theses tires have rubbed my trailer bed from my axle being over-loaded but they have held strong.

I am very impressed with theses tires and the good information that etrailer put out for me to understand and choose tires by ply-rating, speed, and weight rating.

A bit of advice, don't skimp on tires, get ones that are well-higher for your trailer's weight rating, good for +80 MPH!

I will buy again, when they finnally wear out! lol

Ordered a pair of tires and wheels for my snowmobile trailer on Sunday and received them Tuesday. Very pleased with product, price and service.

Great product

by:

Awesome prices, product and service. Couldn't be happier.

by:

good product, easy transaction, good customer service.

by:

etrailer sent the correct tires and wheels. They hold air and look good. I have only put 300 miles on them.
I up sized my Yacht Club tilt sled trailer tires. I had 3" of clearance with two 730lb atvs with the old 215/60-8 tires. I have 2" clearance with the new taller, thinner tires. They still have clearance on heavy wash board roads without hitting the deck.

by:

Easy to order, quick shipping, and in s tock!

by:

Replaced existing tires/rims on trailer for my 20 ft pontoon boat. Delivery was swift and The price is right, and the tires well packaged. They have performed perfectly over the course of more than 300 miles of travel in several trips. A year later, the tires have kept the same pressure, which is better than the old tires which would lose 20 PSI in a year.

by:

Upgraded my stock tires fro 8" load c to 10" load d and couldn't be happier. Floe trailer pulls better than when I bought it new. Tires were at my door in three days from when I ordered them. Wouldn't buy from anywhere but etrailer. Prices and delivery are unbeatable. Completely happy with my purchase from etrailer and will continue to purchase from them.

by:

just what i needed

by:

Perfect fit and seems to be a quality tire and wheel.

by:

They look great, I will install next fall on my snowmobile trailer. Great service!

They performed very well. I had no issues and hope to have another good winters use out of them on my snowmobile trailer.

by:

Spare tire for my snowmobile trailer. Pricing was very reasonable and delivery was prompted. I plan on ordering tires for utility trailer in the very near future.

by:

tires I wanted premounted on galvanized rims I wanted arrived quickly
and prodct was well pachaged/protected.Tires are installed on trailer and I would order from etrailer again. Very satisfied with product and shipping service

by:

Great price and serviceTires are exactly what was ordered, they were out of the load range that I needed so I went with a higher load rating. I have seen the same tire at brick and mortars for more. These tires are for my snowmobile trailer and I can usually get about 3-4 years out of them, it will be interesting to see how much better the higher rated ones will wear. Tires were shipped quickly and I qualified for free shipping, I will buy from etrailer.com again.

by:

Very quick shipping, Tires appear to be very good & the galvanized rims are great my painted rims would not even last 2 seasons without starting to rust & 2 of them are so bad the bead wont even keep a seal (slow leak) etrailer had far better pricing than anyone else.

by:

Size & fit I needed to add a spare on a trailer I had purchased. Local availability was to too good, etrailer had it sitting on my doorstep in just a few days.

  • Recommended Air Pressure for Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire
Thank you for your purchase of the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H440. We recommend using the PSI rating of 70 which is listed on the sidewall of the tire. Some tire manufacturers have a progression chart showing what the weight capacity is at different PSI ratings but Kenda only lists the one. You can put less in it if you wish but at that point the weight capacity would be unknown and you run the risk of the tires overheating.

  • Trailer Tire/Wheel Combo for a Karavan Snowmobile Trailer with 8 Inch Wheels and Hydraulic Brakes
There are currently no brake assemblies that are going to fit an 8 inch wheel because of the exact problem you have encountered: the hubs are too large to fit. The smallest we can go is for 10 inch wheels. You might be able to go to a 205/65-10 tire which would be about 2 inches taller than the 215/60-8 tire and wheel # AM3H325 that you have referenced. You would need at least 1 inch of clearance above the existing tire for the larger size. If you have the space on the trailer for the...

  • Spare Tire/Wheel Combo and Tire Carrier for 2005 Load Rite PWC Trailer w/ 205/65-10 Tires
Since you'll be dealing with a marine environment, I'd recommend using a galvanized wheel. I'm assuming your existing wheels have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. If a load range C tire (1100 lb capacity per tire) capacity is sufficient, the # AM3H400 wheel/tire combo would be work well for you. If you need a heavier weight rating, go with # AM3H440 which is a D rated tire with a 1330 lb per tire rating. For a spare tire carrier, I'd recommend the CE Smith # CE22011Z and the padlock...

  • Is Powder Coated Wheel or Galvanized Wheel Better for 205/65-10 Trailer Tire
Between the white powder coated wheel on the Kenda # AM3H430 and the galvanized wheel on the Kenda # AM3H440 you are better off going with the galvanized wheel. Galvanized wheels offer the utmost in protection against rust, which is particularly important when it comes to boat trailers or any situation where the wheel is going to consistently be in contact with moisture. The process of galvanizing the wheel is going to ensure better durability over the course of time than a powder coated...

One The Kenda Tire/Wheel combo we offer that is a 205/65-10 tire is part # AM3H440. The correct psi for this combo is1,330 lbs at 70 psi. You should always inflate your tires when they are cold. • How Large Of A Tire You Can Put On Your Trailer
It depends on a couple of factors. First, you will be more limited if you have a dual axle trailer. If you have a single axle trailer the next limitation would be the wheel well clearance. I would load your trailer down quite a bit to see how low it will sag. You don't want to tear up your tires and wheel wells when you have a lot of weight on the trailer. Once you load the trailer down, check and see how much clearance you have. Mark that down for later. Then, get your current tire size...

The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel part # AM3H440 has a maximum speed rating of 65 mph. In order to obtain a higher speed rating you will need to upgrade to a substantially larger tire size like the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel part # AM31994 which has an 81 mph speed rating but will be around 3.5" larger in diameter. • Replacement for 20.5 x 8-10 Tire and 5-Lug Wheel
So you mentioned wheel, though the 20.5 x 8-10 size you mentioned is actually a tire size, which leads me to think you are looking for a replacement wheel and tire of that size. Since that's an older tire size, what you will need is the modern equivalent, a size 205/65-10 tire, along with a wheel that the tire will fit on. We have just 205/65-10 tires, or just the 5-lug 10 inch rim, or a combination of the tire and rim together if that is what you are looking for. Here are the options...

  • Can Trailer Tire Size 20.5x8-10 Replace Tire Size 5.30-12
The difference in size is not drastic enough to prevent one from fitting in place of the other. The diameters are within 1.4 inches of being the same so as long as you match the bolt pattern and the frame is rubbing like you mentioned you'd be fine. For the wider 20.5 x 8 -10 we have the part # AM3H490 for if you have a 5 lug bolt pattern or part # AM3H440 for a 4 lug pattern. We don't carry the exact tire you mentioned.
