Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Good tire. I had no issues mounting and balancing them. I use mine on a mostly off road mini yard truck. Tires have nice tread and don't mark up the grass.

by:

Great product. Completely improve the handling of my trailer. Great customer service and also the delivery was right on point.

by:

So far after a year I’m very happy with my tires

by:

Tires are still perfect. I dont put a lot of miles on them so I cant comment on wear but very happy with my purchase and experience with etrailer. Will definitely use them again.

by:

Very good looking tires. only reason for giving 4 stars is because nothing is perfect

Great quality tire, Nice tread and they appear to be wearing very well. I would defiantly recommend these tires

by:

I bought this as a spare tire to go with 2 tires & rims that I ordered at the same time. Had the tire mounted on an existing rim, and will rotate all 3 tires on a regular basis.

by:

Happy with the tires- wished the price was lower. I purchased a similar tire a few years ago and paid double on this purchase.

by:

Overall great experience.

by:

Recently had a blowout on our pontoon trailer and needed a replacement. These tires exceed the original weight rating and look great at a good price. So we bought two and plan to get two more to match. The customer service at etrailer is by far the best I've had with super quick shipping and great customer followup.

by:

Tires are great! Replacement tires for pontoon boat on galvanized rims. Only had to put in a little air a couple times in last year. Very satisfied.

by:

The Loadstar is good tire for use on my boat trailer. They wear extremely well and have a good tread design. I got 11 years of light use on my last set and am only changing them out due to some slight sidewall cracking. A solid product!

by:

Items shipped quickly and were well pac kaged.

by:

Since day one, I have had no problems with these tires. In fact, I need to order another one to replace my spare tire. Thanks Etrailer...

by:

They are tires. The right size and load range. Replacements for a pair that are worn badly.

Most impressive was the virtually instant fulfillment and fast shipping.

Thanks, George J.

by:

Reliable tire at a good price!

by:

AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE TRAILER TIRES NO PROBLEMS WITH THEM. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

by:

Needing new lawn tractor tires for a very old, but very good tractor I found that my numbers were not listed on tires anywhere. Robert took the time to cross over the numbers and the tires arrived 3 days later. Better quality than tires available near me, and at a great price. Hard to beat their products and service.

by:

These tires I bought for my pontoon boat trailer are great tires, they were shipped fast and free, and are much better than the cheap knockoffs that are on the market.

by:

I have ordered from you before and found good products and great help. I received the product in a timely order and have been happy with it. So i decided to order from you again and had to have a little help in cross-referencing the size. The salesperson was real helpful and knowledgeable. I will order from you again. Thanks

by:

I had excellent service with the tires I purchased from etrailer and the loan co that helped me get these tires now so I would not have to wait till I save the money thank you

by:

fast delivery easy ordering

by:

Ordered two trailer tires. Most impressive was the shipping (free) and they arrived in two days. Have not mounted the tires but that's the easy part!

  • Replacement Tire Recommendation for a Pop Up Camper with 20.5/8-10 Size Tires
The best recommendation I can make for you would be to get a load range E tire like the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP56. This will fit your rim and will have the highest load rating we offer in that size. We do not have have taller tire that would fit your rim, but the # AM1HP56 should work very well for you. I attached a couple FAQ articles you might find informative also.

If the trailer's GVWR is 2,500 pounds you'll be fine with a Load Range D or E tire. A 205/65-10 tire with Load Range D like # AM1HP54 is rated up to 1,330 pounds at 70 psi and the E tire like # AM1HP56 is rated up to 1,650 pounds at 90 psi. Either of those will be fine.

  • Difference Between 205/65-10 and 20.5 x 8-10 Trailer Tire Sizes
The 205/65-10 and the 20.5 x 8-10 would be very close in size. Assuming that 20.5 is the diameter of the tire and 8 is the width. The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10 inch White Wheel, # AM3H390, for example, is 8.3 inches wide with a diameter of 20.5 inches. So it will be slightly wider than a 20.5 x 8. Even though it is such a small difference, I would recommend measuring for clearance on the trailer to ensure a proper fit. I have also included a link below on measuring a trailer...

  • Recommended Replacement Tires for Boat Trailer with 18x8.0-10 Tires
If you're wanting to stay relatively close in size then the next closest available tire size would be an ST205/65-10 tire, and the Kenda Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire - 205/65-10 - Load Range E # AM1HP56 are a great choice and what I recommend if you're wanting to re-use your original wheels. You'll need to make sure that your wheels are at least 6 inches wide, but these are a Load Range E tire with a capacity of 1650-lbs per tire; with a tandem axle trailer you'll have more than enough...

  • Should a 20.5x8x10 Trailer Tire be Replaced with a 5.30 x12 Trailer Tire
It is always recommended to go with the original tire size as indicated by the trailer manufacturer. The specific size was chosen for best performance given the type of load that will be on it. The modern equivalent to a 20.5x8x10 is an ST205/65-10. The Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM1HP54, would be a good choice. It is a load range D tire rated for 1,220 pounds at 70 psi. For longest life and best performance you should always inflate trailer tires to the maximum psi as indicated...

  • Replacement Tires for Sylvan Sport Go Camping Trailer
In most cases a radial tire is going to be the best option. Definitely if you're on roads and highways all the time (most people are). However, a 205/65-10 trailer tire like the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP54 really only comes as bias ply. If that is the only option bias is perfectly fine. It looks like the Sylvan Sport Go Camping Trailer has fenders so getting a larger tire size to switch to radial wouldn't be a good option either. I did run a search and it looks like radial...

  • Are 20.5 x 8-10 and 205/65-10 Trailer Tires the Same Size
Although I can't speak to why someone printed that on a tire, but the two sizes are almost exactly the same, so maybe it was an approximation by the tire manufacturers. Essentially you can swap the two out with no issue because a 20.5 x 8 -10 is 20-1/2 inches in diameter and 8 inches wide, while a 205/65-10 tire is 20-1/2 inches in diameter and 8.3 inches wide, so the difference is extremely slight.
