Driver's-side electric brake measures 12" x 2". Brake pads are made of durable friction material for improved braking and longevity. E-coated backing plate resists rust. Fits 14-1/2", 15", 16", and 16-1/2" wheels.

Features:

  • Electric brakes are easier to install and offer more user control than hydraulic brakes
    • Requires only an electric brake controller (sold separately) - no actuator or hydraulic lines necessary
  • Automotive-grade friction material is molded to brake shoes
    • Pads are fully bonded - not riveted - to shoes for long life and more braking torque
    • Less chance of cracking and crumbling that can lead to mechanical lockup, thanks to tapered edge and circular grinding
  • Periodic manual adjustment required
    • Fine-tooth brake adjustment gear allows for a more precise setting
  • E-coated backing plate resists wear and corrosion
  • Adjuster plugs (included) cover access holes to keep dirt and grime out of the assembly and off of the shoes
  • Mounting bolts and hardware (BRKH12S) sold separately
  • QAI and CSA certified

Manual-Adjust Brake

With repeated use of this brake assembly, the brake shoes may move out of alignment, causing less efficient braking performance. To keep the brake shoes aligned and the brake assembly performing correctly, you should perform routine maintenance.

This brake assembly should be adjusted after installation and then as needed for the life of the brake. To adjust the brake, use a brake adjustment screw tool (sold separately) to turn the adjustment gear on the inside of the assembly. Continue to turn the gear until the drum surrounding the brake catches on the brake pads enough so that the hub can no longer be turned easily by hand. Then reverse the gear by about 10 clicks. A properly adjusted brake should drag slightly on the brake drum.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This brake assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This brake assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This brake has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on this brake assembly is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

Simple to install. Exact replacement for my 5000 lb empty 1995 sundowner horse trailer. Powerful. Plenty of pad left after a yr. Ttuck stips better with the trailer in tow!

Works great trailer never stop better

34 ft Airstream, replaced all six brakes as shown. Product performs as designed. I am totally unhappy with the way the trailer stops. What I am describing is not the item's fault. I am shortly going to purchase a complete Kodiak disc brake set-up from etrailer. The point of my story here is that...don't waste your money on the replacing old & inadequate technology with the same. These electric drum brake set-ups stop only with one shoe...the other shoe is there to stop when backing up. The stopping distance with disc brake is said to improve by 75%!

Wolf G.

5/28/2020

As indicated in my May posting of last year I replaced all six brakes with the Kodiak disc brake kit from E-trailer. The difference is remarkable! The braking distance has indeed been reduced by 75. There is no jerking or the trailer trying to push the tow vehicle. With the brake controller properly adjusted the trailer stops at almost the same rate as the truck without the trailer. If you use a trailer often, especially in dense traffic the disc brake set-up is a must. I am giving the disc brake set-up five stars.

by:

Excellent choice. I am very happy with my order. My trailer was done in no time. Brakes I ordered fit perfectly. Now it's done and I am happy and so as everyone on the road. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Work just like you'd hoped they would, and at a good price. Made finding parts easy.

These guy's at etrailer are hard to beat! Customer care is over the top. That's why Allison Creek does business with etrailer.

very good

by:

These brakes are excellent. I have had zero issues with them since the day they were installed.

NOTE: On average I haul around 8K lbs and also not often so take my review with a grain of salt. Sometimes the load is heavy (a front end loader) and other times it's not (trash run). Either scenario, no issues. A quick gain adjustment and brake check and I'm gone. I checked the bearing play after a week or so and around the 8 month mark. Both times were A+. I think I'm 17 months into ownership. They're still working flawlessly.

When new, these drums had little OOR (out-of-round) which surprised me. Most drums have some sort of noticeable OOR. These no so much. My trailer stops quietly and effortlessly now. No pulsation, skipping, tugging, etc.

Would I buy these again? ABSOLUTELY!!

I ordered 4 non-self adjusting brake sets and recieved 2 self adjusting right sides and 2 non-self adjusting left sides. I needed the project to be complete and I installed them. When i tok the out of the boxs, there was some rebuilding as things were out of alignment from shipping. Initial adjustments on both sets was a little more time consuming because of the lack of large adjustments, but once set they are great. The electrical hook ups were easy. They stop my 5000+lb camp trailer just fine. Finally, hardware being purchased separately is annoying. They should be packaged together and the hardware should be free with purchase of the brake sets.

by:

Hi , I change all the original bearings on my trailer last year . The new bearing seem to be working well and not heating up. The brake assembly was purchased as a spare and ready to go next time I work on the drums and brakes. I have a 2010 NASH 25P travel trailer . Price is good when I purchase your produce in Canadian dollars .

by:

I needed to replace the electric brakes on my 5th wheel because of inner bearing seal failure. Grease on the brake linings can be a recipe for disaster. eTrailer had the most competitively priced brake sets and the tech support was superb in helping me choose the proper replacement parts for my RV. I won’t hesitate returning to eTrailer for my future RV needs and can and do recommend the site to my friends when asked about RV parts.

  • Replacement Brakes For 5th Wheel Toy Hauler With Axletek 12-GG Brakes
When replacing your Axletek 12-GG brakes you will need The Left Hand Assembly # AKEBRK-7L-SA and The Right Hand Assembly # AKEBRK-7R-SA. I like the brakes mentioned above more than the other brakes that we offer because they're a self-adjusting brake that does not require periodic manual adjustment like the standard brakes do. The brakes will fit your 16 inch wheels and will work with axle ratings of 5,200 pounds, 6,000 pounds, and 7,000 pounds. I attached a review video link below of...

I'd be happy to make some recommendations for you. The Timbren # ASR35HDS02 Axle-Less Suspension would be a good choice for the teardrop-style trailer you're building. Mechanically speaking, this a much simpler way to go versus using a typical beam-type axle and leaf springs or a torsion axle. That would equate to using 2 sets of Timbren Axle-Less systems rated for 5,200 pounds for a total capacity of 10,400 pounds. We have a couple of options in this capacity: # ASR5200S01 has regular spindles; no rise or drop, and # ASR5200S04 has a 4 inch drop spindle meaning that it will lower the trailer by 4 inches.
