Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Brakes BP10-220 Review

Speaker: Today, we're going to take a look at the adjuster plugs for the 7", the 10", and 12" brake assemblies. This part is for a quantity of four of them. These replacement adjuster plugs are designed to fit many Dexter and Demco electric and hydraulic trailer brake assemblies. They fit the Dexter 7", 10" and 12" Electric and Hydraulic Brake assemblies and the Demcos 10" and 12" hydraulic brakes. This part again is for a quantity of four plugs. The dimension on each plug, the over-all length is 1 3/32, the width is 15/32 wide. What these adjuster plugs are used for, they're used on a brake assembly.

Let me show you here. I happen to pull a 10" brake assembly. Let me zoom out here. At the bottom of all your brake assemblies on your trailer, there'll be an opening and there should be a plug in there. That plug is used for to seal off to keep any dirt and debris from getting inside your brake assembly when your drum's over this.

But, what you need to do is that slot 00:00:58 you pull that plug out. This plug is designed to go right in there. When you pull that plug out, it gives you access to adjusting your brakes, as you noticed the star wheel for adjusting your brakes is at the bottom. That slot is where you your screwdriver through and adjust that star wheel to adjust your brakes in or out. What you want to make sure you have is when you're done adjusting and put the plug back in again to keep any debris from getting in there. In this case, you happen to see there's just one opening so you just need one.

But on some there might be one slot or some there might be two at the bottom so you want to check your brakes and make sure you need to purchase how many you need to put in your brake assemblies. This part number I'm describing today is for a quantity of four. This is the adjuster plugs for the 7", the 10" and the 12" brake assemblies for a quantity of four.

As always, I am very impressed with etrailer.com. The prices are more than fair with shipping that can not be beat. I would recommend them anytime. I added the picture with the new Electric brake assemblies put on all 4 wheels. Also the brake adjuster plugs are added.

Thank you

Bought a Keystone Hideout from a private party. While doing maintenance on the brakes found that there were no access plugs installed on any of the brakes. Did a web search for the AL-KO part number and etrailer was the only site that crossreffed the part number AND had them in stock. Parts came in the mail in 3 days from Missouri to PA. Part is not rubber but a semi-pliant plastic that fits very tight and needed a tap with a hammer to seat them. They pop out pretty easy with a screwdriver and can be re-installed with a tight fit. This is my second order from etrailer and they will be top of the list for future purchases.

fit perfect and provides protection

got brake assembly's, drum, bearings, and adjuster plugs all excellent fit, price and received fast. Can't beat etrailer have bookmarked for future problems.

Ok, here is another product that is not nearly as good as it used to be. Remember when you were working on your 60's - 70's era cars.... huge drum brakes, adjusters and "little rubber plugs"? Well, now I know why all of them were missing on my TT, they are no longer nice quality, snug fitting rubber plugs like I used to swear at when trying to get time off. Nope, now they are some sort of harder rubbery plasticy sort of material with very little give and staying force.... They are not so easy to find, this seems to be as good as it gets so purchase extras!

Nothing to add, a year later and my opinion of these has not changed.

by:

I received the order on time and in good order. I began to install the brake assembly, I discovered that the assembly was the wrong part. The "Backing Plate" has a different bolt pattern. However, I carefully checked all of the brake components and realized the parts would fit on the original backing plate. So I assembled and installed the assembly and it worked fine. The error was mine when ordering, a lesson learned. I really did not want to return the order if I didn't absolutely have to. So next time I will use OEM part numbers when ordering Dexter brake assemblies. This was a lesson learned and lots of research time to get it right. thanks!

Great no problems!

Your run of the mill backing plate adjuster hole rubber dust plugs. Soft, pliable and fit the holes just fine. Unfortunately there is not a lot to say about this particular product.

I will be back the next time I need to purchase other trailer related products though.

After 18,000 miles over rough and dusty roads the plugs are still holding up just fine.

by:

I replaced all the plugs on my 5th wheel. These fit perfectly.

by:

Plugs were delivered very fast, within a couple of days of ordering. Fit was good, Plugs are plastic, but seemed durable and would stay in place. Not sure about removing them for future brake adjustments. They are not expensive so I bought an extra set in case they need replacing after adjusting brakes. Its' been a lot of years since adjusting drum brakes, but I seem to rmember the plugs used to be made out of rubber.

by:

Generally speaking the product seems like a good buy. I looked at the different options at Etrailer and decided on the Dexter units even though they were slightly higher - made in USA. My package of parts arrived 3 days after ordering - a good deal considering the freight cost was $0. One of the brake assemblies had the self adjuster knocked halfway of in spite of the stiff spring hold it together to the shoes. I suspect this happened during shipment and due to bulk packing the 4 assemblies in a box. I would suggest that Etrailer warn their customers to look at their parts carefully upon receipt. I also was concerned about one of the 7/16" mounting studs being knocked out. I found the stud in the carton and reset it into the backing plate and did not have any issues in the installation.

All in all the process went well from ordering to installation. I appreciated all of the helpful videos on line that helped with the ordering process and gave me a heads up on making sure to order nuts, washers and plugs for the adjusting ports.

I would have given the review a 5 except for the packaging which could stand a little improvement.

I called and talked to Casey, and she was excellent and knowledgeable about the items that I needed. My order was delivered quickly, I received it in two days. Everything that I ordered was included. The items look to be excellent quality. I ordered the self adjusting brakes, and there is an adjusting hole in the rear, but it looks impossible to adjust on account of a metal plate, that is part of the self adjusting system, is in the way. Maybe I'm all wet, and that they don't need manual adjusting when installed? Other than that, very good service and product.

Even self-adjusting brake assemblies must be adjusted when first installed. The self-adjust mechanism will keep them appropriately adjusted as they wear, but they must be set initially by hand.

Overall Excellent Experience with etrailer.com and their products:

I just did a complete brake system replacement on my 2 axle car trailer - this included: backing plates, all brake components, drums, bearings, seals etc.

Website is well laid out and informative - contains very good product information and application details.
Excellent responsiveness and communication with etrailer representatives.
Quick shipping.
Products were OEM - perfect match and high quality.
Will use etrailer.com for all my future trailer needs.
Many thanks!

by:

Who ever heard of electric trailer brake assemblies not having these adjuster plugs. I had to order them extra after the brake assemblies were delivered.

by:

Although I have yet to install the new electric brakes I did open the boxes and everything was included in the order. I would also like to thank etrailer ( Ricky) for his help figuring out which brake set up I needed. I would also like to thank you for the fast and free shipping which was a surprise as I received the boxes in 3 working days .

Tanks again and I will be purchasing trailer products from etrailer again soon,

The adjuster plugs were the last items I needed to order. I had just completed replacing all four trailer brakes with the Dexter Never adjust brakes. Etrailers service was excellent. From reviewing and finding the right products for my travel trailer, to the quick service getting them to my door.

by:

Nice product that will work, but could not give it an excellent review because of the material it is made of. The plugs are more like a rigid plastic vs. a softer rubber material. One of them cracked as I pushed it into the slot, which makes me wonder how long they will last, especially when the temperature drops. I think if they were more pliable like the stock plugs, they will last longer. They are cheap enough and will work, just don't think they are going to last after a winter or two.

by:

The plugs were shipped quickly and a great fit in the 10 1/4" trailer brakes that I installed on my trailer. My only complaint would be that these should come with the trailer brake backing plate assembly.

by:

Just received my order of new backing plate assemblies and some misc small parts. Ordered on line late Sunday night, confirmed I had ordered the right parts Monday morning before shipment went out. Customer service by phone was superb and the gal I talked with was perfect. Shipment was on my porch Friday afternoon. I did open box and inspect shipment that arrived completely intact/good shape and all looked good at this point. Not sure when will get to the brakes on the trailer but will post again when the job is done. So far nothing but good to say about Etrailer.com. Regards, John.

by:

These do not come as a part of the complete brakes and must be ordered. There are two types. On my brakes there are two adjustment holes on each back plate so must order enough, I only ordered 4. When I called to get 4 more is when I found you pay extra for the plugs. There are two types-rubber ( which are very good) and some cheap thro-a-way plastic ones I was sent for the same price when I ask for 4 more. Be SURE TO GET THE GOOD RUBBER ONES or get them at your local parts store.

by:

12 inch. never adjust brakes.perfect, simple bolt on adjust once button it up reload trailer hammer down.couldnt ask for easier simpler product from a great company with excellent customer service. thanks e trailer your the best!!!

by:

Plugs arrived quickly and fit correctly. These plugs are a semi-rigid plastic, not rubbery, but seem to snap into place okay. All of my original plugs were missing, so I don't know if they were the same material or not. I am not 100% confident that these plugs are going to stay in place during travel, which is why I only gave 4 stars. etrailer service was quick and efficient, and I feel the price and shipping were fair. I will do business with them again in the future.

by:

The product was what I needed but after reading other reviews from people buying brake backing plates thinking they are complete set this is not true. Some plates come with the adjuster slot plugs and some don't. Please add in your site if they come with plugs or not and how many are required per backing plate. The ones I ordered required 2 per plate which is not the common setup.

by:

They are perfect fit for my Dexter brakes. IMO they are way over priced for 4 little plastic pieces. Since the new trailers don't come with those adjuster caps now, have no choice but to pay for it.

by:

Very fast delivery.. Needed for 2012 Keystone Larado 5th wheel.. Have two inspection and adjustment holes per wheel.. Believe brakes are Alko.. Lost one on the highway coming home from Florida.. This part fit hole perfect..

by:

This is not so much a review on the inexpensive and simple product I bought, which was as expected, but more a review on etrailer.com in general. The site is pretty good for finding information, and that information seems quite good.

etrailer impresses me as a reputable seller that I would go back to again if I need something they sell.
