Passenger's-side electric brake is 12" x 2". Durable friction material provides improved braking and longevity. Dacromet-coated backing plate is supremely corrosion resistant. Fits 14-1/2" to 16-1/2" wheels.

Features:

  • Electric brakes are easier to install and offer more user control than hydraulic brakes
    • Requires only an electric brake controller (sold separately) - no actuator or hydraulic lines necessary
  • Automotive-grade friction material is molded to brake shoes
    • Pads are fully bonded - not riveted - to shoes for long life and more braking torque
    • Less chance of cracking and crumbling that can lead to mechanical lockup, thanks to tapered edge and circular grinding
  • Periodic manual adjustment required
    • Fine-tooth brake adjustment gear allows for a more precise setting
  • Dacromet coating on backing plate offers superior corrosion resistance
  • Adjuster plugs (included) cover access holes to keep dirt and grime out of the assembly and off of the shoes
  • Mounting bolts and hardware (BRKH12S) sold separately
  • QAI and CSA certified

Manual-Adjust Brake

With repeated use of this brake assembly, the brake shoes may move out of alignment, causing less efficient braking performance. To keep the brake shoes aligned and the brake assembly performing correctly, you should perform routine maintenance.

This brake assembly should be adjusted after installation and then as needed for the life of the brake. To adjust the brake, use a brake adjustment screw tool (sold separately) to turn the adjustment gear on the inside of the assembly. Continue to turn the gear until the drum surrounding the brake catches on the brake pads enough so that the hub can no longer be turned easily by hand. Then reverse the gear by about 10 clicks. A properly adjusted brake should drag slightly on the brake drum.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This brake assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This brake assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This brake has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on this brake assembly is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

Worked perfect for our 28ft v nose race trailer

by:

Bolted right up to my Dexter axle, no issues at all with installation. Paint coating appears very nice. This is a very economical way to replace your brakes and magnets.

by:

A great product maybe not as good as the expensive stuff but works well and for the price you can change them out every couple of years(it takes about 30 to 45 min. per wheel to do once your tools are out and ready) as I do. I pull a 32ft race trailer that weights 14000 pounds with a 2000 tongue weight and for me it is just easier to replace everything!!!

by:

Purchased 4 sets of the brake assemblies to replace my worn out brakes on 7k Dexter axles. Perfect fit. The eTrailer price for the corrosion resistant units was better than I saw for the standard set anywhere else. I would definitely buy again

by:

Everything was good. I had to re drill some of the mounting flange holes on the trailer, but this is a very old trailer that had surge brakes on it, so that's not bad at all.

by:

The items that I ordered were correct and the price was very reasonable.I would like to thank the girls that answered my questions concerning the parts that I ordered. The girls were very knowledgeable and pleasant. The backing plate came with hardware, brake shoes, and a new electric brake.I got all of this for only 17.00 more than the cost of the brake shoes. It fit my 5th wheel with no problems.

by:

Quick shipping and great customer service.
No problems, bolted right up and stopping good now.
I bought 3 left side and 3 right side brake assemblies.

by:

The backing plate bolted up easily. The wires were long enough to re-connect to existing wires. I have not pulled brake drum off this year yet, to see how it lasted a year, and 10K miles.

by:

Fit perfect

by:

Installation was a brease. Haven't finished the trailer yet so I cant vouch for performance.

by:

Nice parts and best order and delivery team in the business! Just what we needed. Fits good and I know it will perform that way.

No problems after one year......

by:

Both of these assemblies were easy to install and worked very well. Great products and service.

by:

Good brakes and were easy to install.

by:

Some parts are painted so we'll see how that holds up in saltwater.

Works great

by:

  • Replacement Electric Brakes for 5,200 Pound Axle on a 2007 Coachman Adrenaline Trailer
Electric trailer brakes for a 5,200 pound axle are going to be 12 x 2 inch. If you need to replace the drums we have several options, see link. But if your hub and drum assemblies are fine then you won't have to replace them. For 12x2 inch brakes that fit the 5,200 pound axle drums we have # AKEBRK-7L-SA and # AKEBRK-7R-SA for self-adjusting brakes. Or for manual adjust we have # AKEBRK-6L and # AKEBRK-6R. If you want some corrosion resistance for marine environments I recommend the Dacromet...

  • Left & Right 12" Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - Dacromet For 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb Axles
The two parts individually are the Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - Dacromet - 12" - 5,200 lbs to 7,000 lbs - Right Hand # AKEBRK-7R-D & Left Hand # AKEBRK-7L-D. They come as a pair with the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Dacromet - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies # AKEBRK-7-D. The only other thing you'll need with these is the Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 12" Brake Assemblies # BRKH12.

  • New 7K Trailer Axle to Replace a Lippert 6K Trailer Axle
We have 7K options but they not a traditional straight axle. They are more like torsion axles that have their own built-in suspension and do not require an axle beam between the 2 sides. This design would then provide independent suspension! The most basic option is # TASR7KS01. It has brake mounting flanges but no hubs or drums. This allows you to select the hubs/drums and brakes you want. They do have the grease fitting for EZ lube hubs but you don't have to use EZ lube hubs. You can...

  • Adding Electric Drums Brakes and New Hubs to Tandem Axle Trailer
To match new hub/drums to your existing spindle/axle you need to match up the bearing set used. You can pull one of your existing hubs to check its bearings. New hubs must use the same inner and outer bearings as your current hubs. I have linked our main page for hubs and you can click on the particular wheel bolt pattern you want. You also need to match the hubs to the axle's weight rating, which usually appears on a sticker on the axle itself. If you cannot find hubs that use the same...

  • Replacement 12 x 2 Inch Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies
The video for electric brake assembly # AKEBRK-7R-D is working for me so it could be the browser you are using. This sis a 12x2 inch brake assembly that uses the 5-bolt mounting pattern. It is designed for 7,000 pound trailer axles. The etrailer brakes do fit in place of comparable Dexter brake assemblies. For the matching left side assembly use # AKEBRK-7L-D.

  • Are There Replacement Brakes Compatible with a Mobile Home Axle
The Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # AKEBRK-7R-D could potentially work on a mobile home axle, but it would depend on your axle. Not all mobile home axles are going to be the same and most will not be compatible with the # AKEBRK-7R-D. Mobile homes are typically designed for very limited use before components degrade with failure potential, this makes finding replacement parts very difficult. Often times mobile home axles have the brake backing plate welded directly to the axle tubing...

  • Butt Connector Recommendation for Wiring up Brake Assemblies on Trailer
The wire gauge used in assemblies like the part # AKEBRK-7R-D is surprisingly thin at 16 gauge. The heavier gauge the wire the better. We recommend 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot), for wiring up the brake output circuit. Since the wire is so long it's important to go with a thicker wire to reduce resistance even though the brake magnets use thinner wire. Especially since the wire gets teed off and ran to multiple brake assemblies. If you went with 10 or 12 gauge...
