Recommendation for Trailer Brakes On a 16 Foot Enclosed Trailer with 2 Axles And 5,000 LB GVW

If your trailer does not have brakes on the axles at this time then I would recommend putting brakes on at least one axle. Many car haulers and utility style trailers with 7,000 pound gross trailer and load weight ratings have brakes on only one axle.
If you plan on using your trailer often and loading it near or to capacity, then brakes on both axles would make stopping with the trailer much easier and safer, and would save wear and tear on your vehicle braking system. If the trailer was designed with brakes on both axles then I would stay with the manufacturers setup.
You will need to check the axle on your trailer to determine which size mounting flange is on the axles. If it is a 4 hole pattern 2-7/8 inches on center then you will need 10 inch brake assemblies, item # AKEBRK-35L and # AKEBRK-35R. If you have a 5 hole pattern you will need 12 inch brake assemblies, item # AKEBRK-6R and # AKEBRK-6L. For a trailer with 5,000 pound capacity you will most likely need the 10 inch Brake assemblies.
I have posted a video of trailer brake installation below for you to review.
