This trailer brake assembly acts as part of your trailer's hydraulic braking system. A hydraulic trailer brake actuator is required for this brake to function.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This brake assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This brake assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This brake has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe on this brake assembly is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Brakes AKUBRK-7R Review

Today we are going to take a look at the 12 inch Uni-Servo Hydraulic Trailer Brake assembly for 5,200 pound to 7,000 pound axles and this one is for the right hand passenger side. Now this hydraulic drum brake assembly is the Uni-Servo design which is used on trailers with the serge type trailer brake actuators. The Uni-Servo is the single plunger design right here and this design allows about 20% braking in reverse. The size in this brake assembly is the 12 inch by 2 inch and again it's the driver side brake assembly. And the way they get the dimension the 12 inch would be the diameter edge to edge so if we put a ruler from the edge of this shoe all the way across is 12 inches. The 2 inches would be the with of the pad on the shoe so if you put that on there you can see two inches so you that gives you your 12 inch by 2 inch size. Now this one happens to be a right hand side assembly.

Now on new brake assembly they will usually have a sticker that will designate which side it goes on but if the sticker happens not to be there and you need to decide what side this goes on, the quickest way to tell is look at the size of the brake pad. If you look at this one it goes from here to here and if you look over here it's here to here. So this one is a lot shorter, the shorter shoe is the primary shoe that would go towards the front of the trailer. So if the shorter one is facing the front of the trailer you can see this is for the passenger side of the trailer. Now these brake shoes are lined with an automotive grade friction material, the friction material is fully bonded to the shoe it's not riveted so it gives you a lot longer life and more braking torque. The lining is also tapered on the edges and they do a circular grinding to the lining to prevent cracking and chromium that can lead to a mechanical lock up. Now this is a manual adjust break which you would adjust right down here so it does require periodic manual adjustments.

The nice thing on this one is the gear that is used is a fine tooth gear so it allows for a more precise setting. And there is no break-in period needed following your initial adjustment. When you go to adjust this you will get access to that gear from the back here, you'll see there's a plug right down here and there is a hole and you pop that plug out and you put your adjustment tool through there to adjust the gear. The nice thing on this assembly it comes with the rubber plug, a lot of the assemblies just leave that hole open but you do want to have a plug in there because that will keep any dirt from getting into your brake assembly and cause a problem so the plug is included. You'll notice also it is designed to fit the five hole brake mounting flange. Now the mounting bolts, nuts and lock washers we do sell separately on our website.

And they are listed on this product page as a related product. This brake assembly is certified by USSAE Standards and CSA which is the Canadian Standards. Again the size on it is 12 inches by 2 inches. The axles they fit are 5,200 to 7,000 pound axles and that they are designed to be used with 12 inch brake drums. But that should do it for the review of the 12 inch Uni-Servo Hydraulic Trailer Brake Assembly for 5,200 pound to 7,000 pound axles and this one is the right hand passenger side assembly. .

Good product and description was very informative.
I ordered the part with regular ground shipping and it was to take almost a week to get it. However I received an e mail and they said they were going to expedite my order at no additional charge. I received it in just a couple of days. Little did they know I was waiting on this part to fix my boat trailer just ahead of an up coming poker run. Thank you for the great part and more over thank you for Excellent service.

  • Which Hydraulic Brakes Fit the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension
The Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # ASR35HDS02 can be used with hydraulic brakes but they will not work with the Dexter # 23-312-313. The Timbren system is designed to be used with the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-201-9UC3-EZ and has a 5 bolt brake flange configuration. For hydraulic brakes that will fit, I recommend the Hydraulic Trailer Brake - Uni-Servo - 12" # AKUBRK-7R and # AKUBRK-7L. These hydraulic drum brakes are 12" x 2" and also have the same 5...

  • How To Determine Replacement Hubs And Brakes For Boat Trailer
Unfortunately, just the outer bearing is not quite enough to figure out what you need for replacement hubs and bearings. For a trailer with that much weight it sounds like you have a tandem trailer. I recommend replacing the bearings and seals on all of the wheels at the same time, even if you are only replacing the brakes on one axle. If you remove the inner and outer bearing and can find the numbers, that will really help. Or you can use digital calipers like part # PTW80157 and take...

  • 12 inch Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly that Activates in Forward and Reverse
Yes we do carry brake assemblies that do allow for braking in reverse and forward. The assembly you referenced is a free-backing assembly. Typically people with surge brake setups prefer this style since it allows the trailer to reverse without the brakes locking up. But for a 12 inch assembly that will activate in forward and reverse we have the part # AKUBRK-7R for the right side and # AKUBRK-7L for the left side.
