Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Pretty easy install worked great and still working great a year later. Hardest part was finding a good location to mount the controller below driver side tail light but figured it out and watched a YouTube video but the mounting of the controller wasn't in the video they skipped that step. Ran the 12 volt power lead wire up to engine bay along driver side frame rail and attached to brake lines and fuel lines with zip ties.

2012 Ford Escape

Showed up timely and fit like a glove on our 2012 Ford Escape. The wiring harness was very easy and directions easy to follow. The hardware for hitch was all there and also easy to install. Thanks!

by:

This harness appears to be of excellent quality, and is the perfect thing needed to set up my vehicle for utility lights the right way. The only reason for four stars is that I have not actually installed it as yet, so have not had opportunity to test it.

Well over a year and product is just fine. Thank you for the follow up!

by:

I wired my Harness in myself and a year later it's still Top Notch? Excellent product.

by:

this was one of the best companies to deal with. they kept in contact the whole time. they made sure everything arrived on time. that, to me is priceless... the hitch and harness is great. easy instalation. looks super.. I am extremely happy with the whole process.... top notch everyone....

Worked great and still working great after a year

by:

Awesome, helpful staff, set me up with the right wiring kit.
Working perfectly.

by:

Was easy to install the directions could have been little better to work out but i watched video of it and was simple. Hardest part was running wire to battery.

by:

can't believe it arrived in less than a week! Best price I found online. Fit perfectly and only took 30 min to install. Happy to write a review for future customers since past reviews were what tipped my vote. Thank you etrailer!

by:

Clear well written instructions and videos. Took less than 30 mins for 16 yr old to install

by:

Good product bad was the wiring for the box was short

2012 Chevrolet Volt

The wiring harness came with everything I needed for the installation. The hardest part of the installation was running the 12 volt power wire from the rear of the car to the engine compartment. I purchased the optional weather-proof connector wit the heat shrink tubing. This ensures a good waterproof connection for the wiring. The only minor complaint that I have is that I don't like the dangling trailer electrical plug-in. It would be nicer if the plug-in could have been mounted to the bottom of the bumper.

This trailer wiring harness has functioned flawlessly and is holding up to frequent use quite well. However, I still think that the connection point for the trailer plug in should have a bracket or clip to firmly attach to the rear bumper of the vehicle.

2012 Ford Escape

Ordered a hitch and wiring for my 2012 escape.wiring was not available.called and talked to Stacey who found another available harness had them both shipped out and received them in 5 days.i had already read on their website how to install them.i have above average installation skills and installed the hitch and wiring in about one and a half hours.very pleased with quality and ease of install.service was also excellent.

It was easy to install

2008 Ford Escape

Harness fit good and was easy to install. Only four stars because the video had stated the connectors were upgraded to heat shrink connectors but my connectors were not. I did have some of my own so I swapped them out.

This kit included standard butt connectors, but as referenced at about 4:10 in the video the connectors were upgraded to part # DW05745-10. A link to those upgraded heat shrink connectors can be found here.

by:

Complete kit. Everything needed include d.

by:
2010 Ford Escape

This was my second trailer wiring kit for my 2010 Ford Escape. The first one stopped working correctly after about 4 years due to somehow the little module that was mounted with double sided tape behind the tail light came loose and was dangling down where it was exposed to the elements. The second unit was mounted with a screw and worked like a charm. The only minor difficulty is running the power wiring up to the battery in a manner that it is protected and out of the way. Other than that, easy fast installation in one evening. I’ve since traded that vehicle so I can only assume it’s still working.

by:

works excellent.

by:

Very satisfied with the product. The package arrived a little beat up with a significant gash in the side of the box, but the hitch was undamaged and all parts were intact. The hitch installed easily, everything fit as needed, though why the need for a spaced between the hitch and the frame on the passenger side really doesn't make sense, it looks like a fix for a hitch with incorrect mounting hole locations. And that did make the installation a little more difficult, but manageable. The wiring harness also installed easily, everything needed was there and everything worked as it should. I'm quite satisfied.

2011 Ford Escape

Installed this on my son's 2011 Ford Escape. Using the simple to follow instructions and the Videos provided by Etrailer made this a simple project. We installed this in conjunction with a receiver hitch, which we also ordered from Etrailer.

by:

Harness is of good quality and plugged right in to the factory wiring. Easy to install other than having to run a wire back to the battery to power it. The separate power is nice in that the trailer light circuit is isolated from your vehicle tail lights and turn signals.

by:

As usual, etrailer stuff is great. This, just like my two Priuse's harnesses fit perfectly and include all the parts to finish the job and have a reliable installation.

2011 Ford Escape

This order arrived quickly. It is extremely easy to put together with basic hand tools. The wires and plugs are made of good quality. I recommend buying heat shrink connectors instead of using the ones provided (more weather proof). You may need/want some extra zip ties. All in all I would buy it again.

  • Is the Curt T-Connector # C56329 Compatible with a 2012 Escape with Backup Sensors
Yes, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56329 is compatible with your 2012 Ford Escape whether it has backup sensors or not. I have attached a video of this kit being installed on a similar 2012 Escape for you to check out. If you are using the wiring for a towing setup and are in need of any other equipment just let me know and I can make some other recommendations for you.

  • Power to Curt 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2011 Ford Escape when Turned Off
This is a common occurrence on some Curt trailer wiring harnesses such as # C56329. Normally you would not notice unless the trailer was connected and it had LED lights. Then you may get a faint glow out of the lights. Having power to the 4-Way is not going to hurt anything or run down the battery unless there is something plugged in drawing the power. Just to be on the safe side make sure the ground is connected to a clean bare metal surface and that all the connections to the tail light...

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver & Wiring For 2010 Ford Escape
The trailer hitch receiver I recommend for your 2010 Ford Escape is the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e56AR. I like the # e56AR because of its matte black finish that hides the inevitable dings, scuffs, and scratches better than any other option. And while it does not come with a 4-way wiring harness you can get one separately, with the correct fit being the T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56329. The # C56329 does work on models without backup sensors.

Over time, the trailer wiring harness you have installed could have gotten corrosion or moisture on the contacts, pins, ground, or even in the converter. Make sure the 4-Way end is free of corrosion and that the grounds are still firmly attached to bare metal. If you do all of this and still have the problem then it is likely that the problem...

The most likely reason for the trailer wiring harness to put out voltage with the vehicle shut off is a shorted converter box which is caused by a short circuit in the trailer wiring. You can confirm this by removing the 10A fuse in the yellow fuse holder that should be connected to the vehicle's positive battery terminal. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56329 that you referenced would be the correct wiring harness for you to use on your 2010 Ford Escape. The problem could be corrosion build up at the trailer connectors that is causing a short or another wiring issue on the trailer that is causing a short. The only way the multimeter could have possibly blown the fuse is if one of the probes ended up touching the ground pin and one of the active pins at same time as that would create a short.
