Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

A 19 mm socket is required not listed on the installation paperwork also the muffler has to be lowered from the passenger side holder it went on well the holes were aligned accurately a 19 mm wrench is needed for the canister bolt

Excellent product. I was able to tow my utility trailer with 1800 lbs of weight behind my 2009 Subaru Forester for over 2,000 miles with absolutely no problems. Very satisfied with it! Highly recommend!

by:

I was able to install the hitch by myself fairly quickly and easily. there was one bolt that did not align well with the frame of the car, but since I mostly use the hitch for a bike rack, I wasn't too worried.

by:

I installed the hitch myself and was able to get it installed with little issues. The only issue I ran into was that one of the bracket ends of the hitch did not line up with the bolt locations on my vehicle. I don't know if it got bent during manufacturing or in shipping, but I was able to bend the piece to where it needed to be to get the bolts to line up. I have only used the hitch to hold my bicycle rack and has not given me any issues since it has been intalled.

Subaru

I like the way it is mostly hidden except for the square receiver part. I wish I could have put a class 3 hitch size opening on it instead of the smaller one I got. I see newer Subaru Foresters with them.

Perfect fit for my 2006 Subaru Forester. Installed it myself. Took me four hours, or so. Delivery was as expected.

2002 Subaru Forester

The ordering process was a bit of a mess. I would get a confirmation that my order was processed. Then get another e-mail saying it was not completed. Finally on the third order, I used Paypal and it went through and shipped. The product itself is top notch. Installed an a couple hours with basic tools, mostly metric. But the bolt supplied seemed to be 3/4" hex, with metric thread. No big deal. Overall, a very nice fit. All holes lined up perfectly, with no need for pry bars, drift pins, sledge hammers etc... LOL. Easy bolt up. Thanks!

2000 Subaru Forester

I bought a 1-1/4" receiver for my '01 forester. It's a perfect fit, with good quality construction and very good paint/powder coat. For $[XX] it's kind of ridiculous, honestly. Very worth it. Shipping was prompt, and they even reached out to me first when the hitch was delivered to see if I needed anything. This is my second time buying from etrailer and it won't be my last. Thanks guys!

2005 Subaru Forester

Solid product, designed for easy installation. My second one of these - we have two SG Foresters and I put this hitch on both. I use the hitch for towing two PWCs (approx 1,300 lbs total) and a lighter utility trailer with no problems. I also use it to hold a 1up USA bike rack, which is pretty much in place all the time I’m not towing. It holds my rack and bike securely with no issues. My first hitch is over two years old and still looks great despite the snow and salt we have here.

Installation is straightforward and all the necessary hardware is included. I was concerned about exhaust clearance compared to the Curt hitch but the Draw-Tite clears with plenty of room. The only problems with installation stem from the age of this model Forester. Depending on where you drive, you may run into some rusty nuts and bolts. An air impact driver is key if you can get access to one. The evap canister nuts were the worst on both of my cars. I had to cut them off for one Installation. The canister uses special “bolts” so you might want to order some from Subaru before you get started.

Make sure you start ALL of the hitch mounting bolts before you tighten any of them. You will need to wiggle the hitch around to line them all up. I installed my hitches by myself, using a jack stand to hold one end while I started the bolts on the other side.

The hitch is mostly hidden when installed. You just see the receiver, not the frame.

Review 1-yr after install. Installation was simple and straightforward. I have hauled many various loads in my 5'x8' utility trailer with this hitch receiver. I have even towed a 6'x12' covered U-Haul trailer with my Forester (empty but still). Highly recommend this receiver!

by:

Product came fast and undamaged, included nice hardware and easy to follow instructions. Wiring was simple and was plug and play, real easy. I originally bought this to tow my boat (1800 lbs) but I have also used this for a couple of small campers as well. I would’ve given this product five stars but I had some issues installing the ball mount into the receiver because of a thick powder coat job.

2002 Subaru Forester
Great company,
great design. Went on as the video describes. Less than an hour. Three pictures include installed hitch, exhaust bracket and tie downs that come completely off of the vehicle. Everything is included in the box and the instructions, while the drawings are a little technical, are superb! Just read them and you won't have a problem.

We will use it to carry our MTBs with a Yakima bike carrier.

Installed a year ago on my 03 Subaru Forester and I use it a few times a week. I’ve even towed multiple people out of sand using the bar to tow off of. Pretty sure that is not recommended but the point is it’s a solid product. I live on the gulf coast as well and it has held up well to corrosion. It was an easy install and was worth the money. A great value for sure.

2007 Subaru Forester

Great product, easy install. Took more than hour for me, because I had my neighbors distracting me. All in told about an hour an half. I did discover one trick. We use the help of a floor jack to hold up the hitch as we put the bolts in. It was a big help with jack doing all the work of holding the hitch place.

by:

easy to install and has been doing great on the back of my subi

by:

Ordered 5 days ago, came in today. Installed in less than an hour with no issues. I included a pic, but as promised, you can hardly see the hitch on the car, but look close, there's a little reflection below the license plate. Great company, fast shipping and they communicated well after I ordered, including a follow-up after I received it. I definitely recommend etrailer!

by:

I have ordered several hitches from e trailer over the years and they never disappoint. Fast shipping and perfect fit always. Thanks again.

by:

I love it. Works well. No need for a pick-up truck. Might be buying another one for my Subaru Impreza outback sport.

2007 Subaru Forester

Installed on my 2007 Subaru forester last night. Installation was pretty easy and the fit is perfect. I made one mistake however and it’s probably due to me not paying closer attention to the instructions. When you remove the muffler mount from the vehicle, completely remove the rubber off of the metal U shaped bracket. The muffler mount rubber then attaches directly to the new hitch via the shiny bolt on the kit.

by:
2004 Subaru Forester

Easy install two minor omissions, one is the need for a 19mm since the installation hardware head size is larger than the oem bolts and two the facia bracket should be removed completely neither were covered in the written instructions

Subaru Forester

I ordered my Draw-Tite hitch for my Subaru Forester recently. Ordering was a breeze, and I got constant updates on the progress of the order from confirmation, to shipping, to delivery... Very nice. The hitch was here in just a few days. I watched the video and read the instructions... It looked straight-forward. Not having a garage, I took it to my local service station for installation. It took 1/2 the time they had allotted, and there was not a single issue with installation. The hitch looks GREAT... If you don't know where to look, you can't even see it... blends right in with the back of the bumper. It is made extremely well and I believe it is of better quality than the Subaru OEM device that retails for 3X of what I paid.
I am EXTREMELY satisfied with the hitch and etrailer.com I will soon be buying the wiring harness... I want to tow something now... :-)

The trailer hitch was one of the best purchases I have made. The guys at the garage where I had it installed were impressed with how easy it was to attach and how rugged it is. I have had ZERO issues with it, and have received several compliments about how inconspicuous it is. Its a great product and it does everything I have asked it to do.

  • Thule Hitching Post Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2005 Subaru Forrester
Yes, as long as you have a hitch on your 2005 Subaru Forester like the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36311 then you definitely could use the Thule Hitching Post Bike Rack part # TH934XTR that you referenced on your vehicle. This is a great rack that I recommend a lot because its great value. It can carry 4 bikes, is compatible with 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch hitches, has anti-sway cradles to prevent the bikes from hitting each when loaded, can tilt for rear cargo access and has an anti-rattle hitch...

For your 2005 Subaru Forester we only have Class II trailer hitches that are 1-1/4 inch size openings like the Draw Tite part # 36311. The larger hitch size of 2 inch is designed for larger vehicles with higher capacities like trucks and SUVs. The # 36311 can still carry a bike rack or tow a small trailer though so it still is a great option. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well. To use the bike rack, you do not need any extra parts. Everything you need to install it on a trailer hitch is included with part # S64650. I went out into our warehouse and measured the cross tubes of both the Curt # 12038 and the Draw Tite # 36311 and found that they have cross tubes that measure 2-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 inches. I would recommend you use a 6 and 7-Way Trailer Connector Mounting Box for Round or Square Tube Hitches, part # 18159, on either the # 12038 or the # 36311.
