E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

trailer hub arrived with something that appears to be sand all throughout the assembly. I'm sure it is obvious what sand will do to bearing

I am not sure what happened there. It is the first time I have seen that happen. Customer Service will be in touch with you.

by:

Grease cap damaged/unusable and this like dexter item dimensions are all different. So long as the wheels line up and the drum contacts the brakes pad properly I’ll let it ride. And the like new but missing parts drum is damaged and the bearing race is not seated

by:

Everything I needed I found at etrailer and everything fit perfectly!! Customer service was excellent!!

by:

Everybody is completely smashed to pieces. I bought a kit for my store but can not put smashed torn apart boxes on the shelf. Why were these shipped in the box that is to be put on the shelf? Adhesive shipping labels veering descriptions and part quantities.

I am sorry that the hub assemblies were delivered this way. I will share this with our shipping department and will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

by:

Five star. shipping was slow. Product was great 14 K 14 plies under 2000 pounds independent suspension. Low fast and sassy. Yep that’s how I build them.

by:

Thanks so much etrailer for making me feel so much better/safer about carrying heavier loads in my trailer. Katrina also went the extra mile when it came to customer service and patience with my order. I had 15" six lug hub and drum assembly which held all I could load on them, like I said I just did not feel safe so I went with this hub and drum assembly which came with all necessary items for the install, and it allowed me to put 16" tires with a heavier weight rating. Very pleased.

by:

Outer bearing #14125A was damaged. Notified Davine at etrailer and emailed her a picture of the damaged bearing. Currently awaiting a response. Everything else in the package was ok.

by:

So far so good. Good customer service, boxes were not damaged and arrived within a couple days. Genuine dexter parts and they also helped swapped a backordered part.

by:

Parts are good. Service sucks! When I ordered and paid for four of these they were in stock and was to be at my door in three days. Four days later they said they were out of stock and would take another two weeks before they would have them in. Don't order unless you have about three weeks!

by:

Worked great for the upgraded wheels I put on my Grand Design 5th wheel!!

by:

Quinn has been very helpful in making sure parts are delivered on time

by:

good product for the money

by:

The pre packed bearing kit saves time, easy to install. No concerns

by:

Great product and exact replacement for our 42ft Keystone Montana High Country 375FL.
Fast shipping and correct part is extremely important as we are full time RVers and with limited time.
I've ordered several items over the years and always received great service.

by:

Perfect replacement for the factor hubs. Thought I ordered the easy grease hub. A pre-greased one was shipped...NO PROBLEM!!! One less thing I had to do to install. Etrailer will continue to have my business.

by:

These guy's at etrailer are hard to beat! Customer care is over the top. That's why Allison Creek does business with etrailer.

by:

SECOND TIME IVE ORDER A HUB ASSEMBLY FOR MY JOB CAME IN EARILER THAN EXPECT & PACKEGED NICELY & EVERYTHING WAS CORRECT!!!!

by:

I ordered this as spare hub assembly for my 5th Wheel RV. We are leaving next month on a 5000+ mile, 3 month trip. I figure if I have a bearing go bad I can swap out the whole hub and be back on the road in no time. The hub is the same Dexter hub that I have on my rig now.
Shipping was fast and free, Helen was great, helping me find the part numbers of some of the other accessories that I needed to have spares of. Speaking of shipping I had checked other places for the hub and while the price was similar the freight charges were half the price of the hub. I will definitely be giving trailer my business going forward.

I havent had to use this Hub as of yet but, just having with me when we travel is comforting.

by:

Hub was better than i hoped for the races were already installed just grease the bearings and put it together and they came sooner than expected.I have used etrailer in the past.couldnt be happier

by:

Matched OEM perfectly

by:

This is exactly what I need for an on-the-road repair! I ordered a second because I had a wheel-lug issue on I-95, and this kit got me rolling again! Thanks for offering a very complete setup at a great price. Finally, the free shipping is EXCELLENT! With some vendors "free shipping" means "you will receive it sometime next year." Not etrailer.com! Thanks!

Still going strong! Excellent value, quality, reliability!

by:

Parts are always great but need to improve packaging when shipping. Twice I got drum kits and the boxes were either open or had holes and parts fell out. I got a third order in the same condition but fortunately all the parts were still these. One seal was damaged.

by:

These were easy to install, and have exceeded all expectations. I would definitely recommend.

by:

Quick delivery of quality parts.

  • Greasing Bearings and Hub for Dexter EZ Lube Hub and Drum for 5.2K to 7K Axles, 8 on 6-1/2
If you have EZ lube axles then the hubs most likely use a double lip seal (which is what comes with hub # 42866UC3-EZ) that is going to be able to handle the use of a grease gun. But make sure to use a manual grease gun because the powered models do create much more pressure and can blow a grease seal. • Castle Nut Torque Spec for 7,000 Pound Trailer Axle
There is no specific torque rating when reinstalling the castle nut after packing the bearings. You want to run the nut down until there is no side to side play in the hub, and then back it off to the next notch in the castle nut so the retainer can secure the nut. Over-tightening the castle nut can damage the bearings, races and spindle. I have attached a video showing this process. If you jump to the 4:45 minute mark, you can see the procedure outlined above.

Thank you for the feedback, we sure do appreciate it! It's hard to say what the rubbing noise you are hearing is but I suspect the shoes on the backing plate are coming into contact with the drum which is completely normal but don't forget to adjust them prior to towing. • Should Grease Be Added to EZ Lube Trailer Hubs if the Bearings were Manually Packed with Grease
On EZ lube hubs and axles you would want to add grease until it is full (when you see it flow out). When that happens it indicates that the proper amount of grease is in the hub. Having the bearings packed and the little bit of grease you have added is probably fine but it is better to be safe and fill 'em up!

  • How Tight Should Trailer Bearings Be When Installing on a Spindle
Trailer bearings can fit pretty tight to the spindle, but they would not ever need to get pressed on. They should not be so tight that you have to really pound on them to fit but they can require a little bit of effort to get them to slide onto the spindle. When installed there should be no play between the inner surface of the bearing and the spindle. • Why Does Trailer Have More Weight Capacity Than Axle Capacity
Great question. So the difference is the weight of the axles not counting against their own capacities. So the wheels/tire/hubs etc. are decently heavy but the axle's capacity does not factor that weight. This is why sometimes you'll see trailers have more weight capacity than axle capacity.
