I have had this item installed for approximately one year on our 42 foot, 18,000 pound 5th wheel. It was easy to install and set up and has worked flawlessly ever since. We have put over 6,000 miles on the 5th wheel since the installation. I will definitely buy again if the need arises.

Its been another year and the parts are still functioning flawlessly.

Quinn did sn excellent job on my order We compared pricing and informed me as to del8very times, I received email updates and was informed as to when to expect delivery. Oustanding and professional customer service, Highly recommend etrailer your trailer needs.

by:

OEM Dexter parts well worth the cost. Brakes are very important in the scenarios I use my trailer. You definitely feel 6 brand new brake setups behind you! etrailer kept me well informed through the process on order status. Shipping was quick. Will be shipping etrailer for any of my trailer stuff going forward.

by:

Order was received timely. I had questions regarding a possible design change going from two spring to single spring. I contacted customer service and they replied swiftly. Not being sure of the answer the customer service rep. Conner contacted the manufacturer to determine proper answer. All is good , apparently Dexter has changed from 2 spring to single spring at the top. The attached pictures show what I am referring to. Look at the wiring in the faulty picture. Of course pulling the hub was my last thing I looked at. Hence why I was getting a ground short and no brakes.
etrailer customer service get A+++

by:

I had the brake lining shatter off of one of the shoes. This happened within the first 100 miles after putting the new brakes on. Tore the drum up beyond repair. Working on getting the brakes replaced under warranty but I had to ship them the parts back first. Trailer is up on blocks until then.

by:

Product was an exact fit. Much easier than fighting springs and hold downs even with the right tools. It took about 45 min. per wheel start to finish. Etrailer was very helpful when ordering parts.

by:

Love the dexter brakes, however their packaging is inadequate. Out of the 4 brake assemblies I bought 2 of them were partially disassembled.

Ordered lots of parts on Monday, received most of them by Thursday. The received parts were well packaged and undamaged. A few of the parts they didn't have in stock so they had those drop-shipped to me which should be delivered in the next couple of days.
No supplier I have ordered any parts from has such a great technical reference web site or personal customer support. Yea, Rebecca - Well Done! Yes, I'm very happy with the pricing.
Thanks for your great support and I look forward to doing business with them again. More info to follow as soon as I can get the parts installed on my trailer.

by:

Exact replacement and easy to install.

by:

Christina J thanks for all your help the brake assembly was delivered extremely quick and installed easily!

by:

Excellent product, exact replacement. Great customer service from etrailer, and product was delivered 3 days early. Thanks.

Very well Etrailer came thru with the parts ias in dire need of in a timely manner. I needed brake assembliies and drums for my 5th wheel Etrailer researched and very quickly got me the needed parts Not all parts were Dexter but that was expained to me. And the substitues worked very well. I will be a returning customer for sure ss they were very helpful while ordering and thru checkout.

by:

I was worried about putting brakes back together, this is an easy repair with only 5 nuts to put on and rewire. Information on getting the right or left brake was very good and made this an easy project.

Product installed easily. Much more efficient than replacing the parts I would have needed and less costly. Part used on a Dexter 7000 lb RV axle.

Working well, as it should but it is on a 5th wheel and doesnt have s lot of moles on it.

by:

You didn't have the brake assembly I wanted but had the 7k at a higher price. Was told there was no difference between the two. I bought the 7K but would like to know if there is no difference, why I was charged the higher price. I needed one so I didn't have much choice. Not Happy. I'll think twice and think again before purchasing from etrailer again.

by:

Excellent customer service and the brake units work great!

I traded last summer for a new one but the brakes worked just fine.

by:

I had a dragging brake. When I disassembled, found bottom adjuster was dislodged and unattached spring. Magnet was very much melted. I reassembled the brake assembly good enough to travel to final designation. I ordered this brake assembly, p/N 23-465 for passenger side forward axle and it fit perfectly. I've driven approximately 3,000 miles since repair without issue. I highly recommend this product and company

by:

Easy to install. I have taken several trips since then. I would buy this product again from etrailer!

by:

Worked well to replace grease covered shoes and magnet. Lower cost than replacing individual components.

by:

Fast shipping,
Product just as described.

Thanks etrailer for excellent service, and pricing.

Brake assembly failed again, would not recommend dexter self adjusting brakes 2nd set that was completely destroyed. Replaced with manual adjustment assembly.

by:

Great price for a complete brake replacement. Way easier and not much more than just replacing the shoes. I upgraded from the 6000# that were on my fifth wheel to these 7000# ones. Also like the self adjusting feature.

by:

Excellent

by:

Replacement for 6000 lbs. original equipment brakes. Hoping for more stopping power as I usually tow near the limit of the trailer.
Installation was easy and straight-forward.
First impression is not much different but of course new brakes need to be burnished. The effectiveness is sure to increase. Overall happy :)

by:

eTrailer shipped the product the same day and I received these assemblies 2 days later. Great service!

Very easy product to install. Looking forward to getting my trailer on the road and test them out. Keep in mind you'll need to purchase the plugs for the backplate as the old ones usually are bridle and probably won't seal out the elements.

  • Trailer Hub & Spindle For 7,000 lb Axle With 12 Inch Electric Brakes
First, thanks for all that detailed information, it was very helpful. And we can get you parts for your trailer, though the issue is that there isn't an available hub for your spindle due to what you mentioned - the uncommon 501349 bearing, which is for older agricultural spindles. There also isn't a 7,000 lb-rated hub with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern to go with your 7k-rated Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # 23-464 and # 23-465. So what that means is you'll have to...

  • Can 7k 12 x 2 Nev-R-Adjust Trailer Brakes be Used in Place of 6k 12 x 2 Inch Trailer Brakes
We do have some 12 x 2 inch Nev-R-Adjust electric trailer brakes for 7k axles. Left hand side is # 23-464, right hand side # 23-465. Current pricing is listed on the product pages for these brakes. If your brake mounting flanges have the 5-bolt pattern then you can use the 7k brakes and they will fit the same drums as the 12 x 2 inch brakes for 6k axles. Even Nev-R-Adjust brakes have to be adjusted when first installed but after that they will adjust themselves. Otherwise you would have...

Brake part 023-451-00 refers to a right-hand Dexter electric drum brake for 9K and 10K-rated axles. The brake dimensions are 12-1/4-inch diameter and 3-3/8-inch width. We do offer this size of brake in 8K, 9K and 10K axle capacities in the self-adjusting variety; these are shown on the linked page. The best value among all is the 10K-rated etrailer Axle Teknology brake pair # AKEBRK-10. These drum brakes work with wheels from 15-inches up to 17-1/2-inches. These use a 7-bolt mounting...

  • Difference Between the Two Types of 12x2 7000 lb. Brake Assemblies
The difference between the two brake assemblies comes down to one being self adjusting and one that is manually adjusted. I recommend the self adjusting because you will never have to crawl under the trailer to adjust the brakes. This can be a headache and we tend to not do it as often as we should which leads to poor performing brakes. With the self adjusting it automatically tightens as the shoes wear down keeping your trailer's braking performance optimized and working as safely as...

  • Replacement Brake Assembly Recommendation for 2004 Fleetwood Prowler Regal 32'
Best option is to match the part number you found on your trailer. Realistically the 6k and 7k brake assemblies are mostly interchangeable as they both are 12 inch diameter by 2 inch width so either would technically fit, but going with the correct rating gives you a setup that's easiest to fine tune braking power. If you go with an assembly rated too high the magnet is more sensitive and you'll find that the brakes are harder to get the exact amount of braking power. It'll either feel...

We definitely can help you pick out all new hub/drums and self adjusting brake assemblies for your 2008 Forest River fifth wheel XLR 39X12 toy hauler. Based on the dimensions you listed you have a number 42 spindle so for a hub/drum to fit that you'd want the part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ and then for self adjusting brake assemblies you'd want the part # 23-465 for the right hand side or part # 23-464 for the left hand side.

  • Will Hydraulic Brake Hubs Work With Electric Brakes
My contact at Dexter said that the hubs will be the same for hydraulic and electric brakes on their 7,000 pound axle. For electric brakes for your 7,000 pound axles, I recommend the 12 Inch Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly # 23-465 for the right hand side and # 23-464 for the left hand side. These brake assemblies do not require any manual adjustments to be made, they automatically adjust to deliver optimum performance. I have attached an installation video of these brakes for you.

Yes, the self-adjusting version of the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly part # 23-181 is the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly part # 23-465. This assembly is for the right hand side and if you need the left hand side you can use part # 23-464 or part # 23-464-465 for both right and left hand side. • What Gauge Wire Should be Used to Wire Up Trailer Brake Assemblies
I would strongly recommend going with heavier wire for the brake output circuit to your assemblies. 16 gauge is way too thin. I would recommend a 10 gauge wire like the part # 10-1-1 that is sold by the foot. I admit the designation for left or right hand assemblies is a bit confusing. But if you can remember that the actuating arm that holds the brake magnet should always be in front of the spindle then you can easily determine which side assembly you have.

The brake assemblies like the 12 inch Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly, item # 23-464 and # 23-465, that you ordered, are designed to be installed with the brake magnet below the axle, not above. We cannot recommend installing the Nev-R-Adjust assemblies upside down. I would check the axle. If it is a straight axle with no arch in it, then the axle has been installed upside down. If it is an arched axle with the bend oriented upwards, then the mounting flange has been welded on upside...
