If you're replacing a busted or rusted-out spring on your trailer - or if you've decided to upgrade to dacromet to avoid rusted-out springs down the line - the first thing you'll need to do is measure your existing leaf springs. Take a look at the measurements above. If these dimensions - and the weight rating - match what you currently have, you should be good to go.

Remember, though, your leaf springs can flatten a bit over time. And if you're measuring your spring while your trailer is fully loaded, the overall length that you get might be a bit more than what you need a brand new, unloaded spring to measure.

Rustproof Your Trailer Suspension with Dacromet

Double-Eye Diagram Dacromet

As you travel across highways and backroads, your trailer's leaf springs are going to corrode and flake over time. This is especially true if you have a boat trailer that's regularly submerged in water. Completely rusted-out springs on trailers are all too common, and these dacromet springs are a great solution to that problem.

Dacromet Versus Rusty Springs Comparison

Longer-lasting springs will save you money and are great for any trailer, but they are a must have for folks who live or play by the water. If you live on the coast, you're probably always rinsing the saltwater off of your trailer to try and keep rust at bay. If you're really worried, you might've even tried to repaint your springs or spray them down with rust inhibitors. But upgrading to these dacromet-coated leaf springs could cut down on or eliminate all of that maintenance, leaving you more time to spend out on the water.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. We conducted our own salt spray test and found that this dacromet coating lasts up to 744 hours before it begins to deteriorate. Compare that to some other dacromet coatings out there that are rated at just 300 hours - or zinc coatings that don't last for even that long - and you can be sure these springs will last.

Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

After reading the bottom of the box, I felt responsible for leaving a review.
The website was extremely easy to use. I selected the axle weight and how many springs I had in my pack. It narrowed it down to 3 options all multiple inches apart.
I measured a good leaf spring on my trailer, and was able to select the perfect spring the first time.
I was so excited how easy it was when I simply took out the bolts and replaced the spring in less than a hour!
I highly recommend this website and all of there parts.

Box was delivered with a corner opened. Missing washers to separately ordered U-bolt kits. Leaf springs were packaged separately within the larger box and arrived OK.

by:

Nice finish on these springs

by:

Made a nice little trailer to haul wife’s golf cart!

by:

Easy replacement of worn springs. Seem to be holding up well

by:

Received product very quickly, packaging was amazing! Individual wrapped, and individually boxed, springs looked incredible!

by:

Great web site that showed me the springs I needed. Great price and super quick shipping that delivered the leaf springs a day before it was due. No doubt would buy again from etrailer…

by:

These leaf springs are exactly what my trailer needed. Living in Northeast Nevada we have many months of cold weather. Salt from the roads build up and rusted out my springs. With the Dacromet coating I'm hoping this will protect them longer.

by:

The leaf springs look good not great. I bought the set with the Dacromet rust resistant finish, but when I opened the packing you could see spots of rust coming through the finish, so I’m not sure how rust resistant they are. The measurements on the leaf springs are spot on.

by:

As advertised, works well.

by:

Springs were exact fit, excellent coating and over packaged to protect them in transit. They even arrived a day early. These appear to be slightly beefier that’s the originals which have the same weight rating.

by:

Fit as should and all went well with in stallation

by:

Parts arrived very fast! William was a pleasure to deal with and knows his product!

by:

Nice....looks good....haven't put them on yet

  • How To Find Correct Replacement Leaf Springs for Trailer with Shelby Coupler
In order to find the correct leaf springs for a trailer you first need to find your axle capacity listed on the axle tag in the center of the beam. Then, you need to note their type (double eye, slipper, etc.) and the width and length of the spring which will be taken while the spring is unloaded. These bits of info can then be used to find a replacement. The 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring part # e68SR for example is for 3,500 lb axles and measures 25-1/8" long. I have attached all options below,...

For an off-road application I highly recommend a Timbren Silent Ride Suspension system which is available for a 2-3/8" Round 3.5K Axle # TSR3500S04 or a 3" Round 3.5K Axle # TSR3500S06. These give you a little more control and perform better than your traditional axle leaf spring setup as you can see in the linked video. If you'd like to stick with the traditional leaf spring setup then I recommend the following parts: Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit - # APS4 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring -...

  • Determining Correct Replacement Leaf Springs For 2001 Coleman Utah
Thanks for the picture! While this does help narrow down which leaf spring will be correct, you'll need to measure the length of your leaf spring with no weight on it (Jack the trailer up and have the axle dangling not supporting any weight). I included a diagram of the measurement needed. Now your picture shows you have a 3.500lb axle so chances are you use the common 25-18" # e68SR. But you should replace the U-bolts and plate with # CE23002 as well since they'll be ruined trying to...

For your axle and hanger spacing you need lead springs that are more in the 25-1/8" to 25-1/8" range. For a 3,500 lb trailer axle leaf spring I would recommend the galvanized part # e68SR which is 25-1/8 inches long. Galvanized steel holds up a lot better to rust than standard steel and while this is a little shorter than what you have now worn out springs tend to flatten out and get longer over time. I am assuming your dry weight is 5,500 lbs. It sounds like you have something like the 2004 Forest River Cherokee M-28C with a UVW of 5,490 lbs. The GVWR for this travel trailer is 7,590 lbs. Subtracting the tongue weight would put you under 7k, so more than likely you have 3,500 lb axles. This would mean that your leaf springs would be 1,750 lb leaf springs. I do not recommend going with 4,000 lb leaf springs on your boat trailer with a GVWR a touch less than 3,000 lbs. It will make the ride bouncier than need be, but a 3,500 lb spring should do well, assuming when your boat is on the capacity is somewhat close to the 3k GVWR.
