Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Suspension 115052 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at a replacement shackle strap. A shackle strap connects a double aisle leaf spring to a hangar of a single-axle trailer or to an equalizer of a multi-axle trailer. It's going to allow the necessary pivot of the springs to occur for an evenly distributed load between the axles, and also a smooth ride for the trailer. This part number is good for one shackle strap. If we take a measurement, the distance that we have from the center of one hole to the center of the other, that's going to give us the measurement of 2-5/8". Overall length, edge to edge, is around 4".

Overall width from edge to edge is going to give us a measurement of about 1-1/4". The hole diameters, that's going to be 9/16". You can see it's made from a nice durable steel construction. That's going to do it for today's look at the replacement shackle strap.

I was very disappointed when I received the shipment from etrailer and only half the parts were there. When I made the order I was told everything was in stock and would be shipped.

by:

Easy installation holding up well.

by:

Worked perfect.

by:

Order received was missing significant pieces as per my notification to customer service. Looks like all parts, nuts bolts flanges were all packed loose in the box, UPS destroyed the package and reboxed, resulting in missing items. Attached picture is what I received.

by:

Fit perfect with the equalizers I also bought from etrailer.

Great replacement for a car hauling trailer built from a house trailer frame that had badly warn suspension parts. These suspensions worked perfectly.

by:

Good product, worked as expected.

by:

I put them on a double axle goose neck 2-horse straight load that gets used almost 2 days a week this last year. It has made many 100mile trips. I bought it used 8-hrs from home. Bought and installed new tires the next day and jacking it up broke a leaf spring. Put four springs on it using these shackles. Good as new!

by:

Easy ordering, fast delivery. Great pri ces.

by:

They are working great.

by:

Reasonably priced replacement part

by:

Correct parts and worked as they should. Replaced springs and hardware on one side of trailer the day i recieved parts.

by:

When ordering, the descriptions plus dimensions helped a lot. Pictures of everything was great! Knew exactly what I was ordering. Delivery was right on time and the parts were good quality. I was in a hurry to do these repairs so we could take our trailer on a trip. It was a pleasure to do business with e-trailer! Thank you!

by:

Package with straps was mangled in transit. The straps were not there. I called Etrailer and hey immediately sent replacements. Great service.

by:

The spring replacement went well and was easy to complete. It lifted my trailer about 1.5 inches from the top the tire to the fender. It wont rub anymore!!

by:

The tire blew out on my camper. I changed the tire. I didn’t realize the spring was broke. I ordered springs and shakels and new bolts. It took just over and hour for both sides. Everything I received from etrailer was just as it should be.
Keep up the good job everyone.
Thank you

by:

Good fit for a replacement on my utility trailer. Will probably hit them with a can of spray paint as they're bare metal.

by:

Quick delivery. Perfect fit.

by:

by:

  • Replacement 2,000LB Trailer Leaf Springs For 1962 Aristocrat Single Axle Trailer
I recommend the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # e77SR to replace the springs on your 1962 Aristocrat single axle trailer. These are the same 1-3/4" wide springs with a 26" measurement from bolt center to bolt center. As springs wear and sag it is normal for the measurements to appear longer than what they are when new so this will be the best one for your 2,000lb trailer. Be sure to replace both springs as a set. With the age of your trailer you should also get a...

  • Equalizer/Hanger Kit Recommendation with Equalizer TREQ356
We can piece together an equalizer kit for you, however the TruRyde Equalizer, # TREQ356, is not included in an equalizer kit or a hanger kit. Next, you will need 14 shackle bolts that are 3 inches long and have a 9/16 inch diameter. For this, you can use Shackle Bolt, # 166081. Finally, you will need 8 shackle straps. The most common size is the 2-5/8 inch shackle strap, # 115052. I recommend measuring your current shackle straps to verify you are buying the correct replacement shackle...

  • How to Prevent Leaf Springs from Hitting Trailer Frame on a Gooseneck Trailer
It sounds like the eye of the leaf spring is coming in contact with the bottom of the trailer frame. If this is the case then your only three options to fix this would entail either replacing the equalizers, shackle straps, or leaf spring hangers. The equalizers and leaf spring hangers would need to be taller and the shackle straps would need to be shorter in order to gain the clearance you are looking for. The leaf spring hangers will require you to cut off the old and weld the new on...

  • Heavier Duty Shackle Kit Solution to Replace what Came with # APT5
The shackle straps that come with the # APT5 are 2-5/8 inches long which we have standard replacements for with the part # 115052 but since you are wanting something more heavy duty I would go with the # MR76ZR as this gives you a much heavier duty shackle that also includes new bolts (to accommodate the thicker shackles), and new bushings as well. The shackles of this kit are longer at 3-1/8 inches which will allow the trailer to sit a little taller but otherwise will work just fine.

  • Additional Suspension Parts to Add an Axle to a Tandem Axle Trailer
The first thing I need to tell you is that mobile home axles are designed for one-time use only by the manufacturers. Because of this replacement parts are nearly impossible to find. I would urge you to switch to regular axles so replacement parts are readily available. I have linked the axles we carry for you. The main problem you might run into when adding another axle is wheel scrubbing. When making turns its likely that the front axle tires will drag on the ground. Also to maintain...

  • Correct Length of Trailer Suspension Shackle Link
In order to retain the same suspension geometry, when you replace shackles you should use the same length replacements. Going with a shackle that is too short will not allow enough articulation in the suspension, and cause a very rough ride. Using a shackle that is too long will allow too much articulation and can cause the suspension to bottom out.

Hey David, The Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizer Kit # LC696740 has a 6" spacing so you'd only be taking on a 1/4" difference horizontally for both sides, which should be within tolerance for the shackle straps. Switching to a longer shackle strap like 3-1/8" # TRSL313 could help maintain your current height, but you'll run the risk of the straps sitting out of tolerance compared to the equalizer. The suspension has to be able to travel otherwise it will bind and start wearing out components...

  • Advice For Installing Leaf Springs on a Double Axle Trailer
The easiest way to accomplish this would be to start on one side of the trailer and get the springs in place before bolting the axle to the springs with the u-bolts. Have the axle up on jacks or blocks so its weight is not bearing on the springs. Once the springs are in place on both sides, the shackles will be in the correct orientation so you can attach the axles. The key is to do one side of the trailer at a time. I have included an FAQ article on double eye and slipper springs below.

  • Can Trailer with Slipper Springs be Replaced with Double Eye Springs
You can replace slipper spring suspension on a trailer with double eye springs but you will need to remove the old hangers and have new ones installed as well as get the correct suspension mounting hardware. For a 26 inch spring we have the # e27SR which is for a 4,500 lb axle. For a hanger kit the part # APS4 would work great since it's for a single axle which comes with hangers, bolts, and shackles.

  • Can Longer Shackle Straps be Added to Tandem Axle Trailer
When replacing shackle straps they should be the same length as the ones that were previously on your tandem axle trailer; replacing them with longer straps will result in additional play in your trailer suspension which could lead to additional wear or other issues and longer ones are not going to provide you with added benefit. For a tandem axle trailer it is common to have 2-5/8" shackle straps such as part # 115052. I recommend using these if they were the same length as your previous...

  • Solution for Trailer Axle that Continues to Pop Up
To prevent your trailer's rear axle from continuing to pop up, a great place to start is by replacing the shackle links on your trailer. When the shackle links become worn and the holes elongate and stretch, the equalizer can move and cause the axle to "pop". When this happens while driving, typically it takes another jostle to the suspension to bring the axle back to the correct position. Shackle straps come in a variety of different lengths. One common length is 2-3/4 inches, such as...
