Video Transcript for ABS Fasteners Trailer Shackle Bolt Locknut Review

Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today, we're taking a look at 9/16 Locking Nuts. These are gonna be great for your trailer suspension. If you're replacing your trailer suspension, like our equalizer here, you're gonna see that you're gonna have locking nuts that go on all of the bolts. And these locking nuts are great because you can thread them on.

And when you tighten them down, those little flared edges are really gonna bite into the bolt. So you're not going to have to worry about these backing out over time as your suspension moves. Now, you can purchase these nuts individually to replace individual ones that you may have problems with, but you can also replace the bolt with it and buy it as a combo. And that's gonna be good because you're gonna have fresh threads on both the hardware. When it comes to suspension, using the proper hardware is definitely a key thing that you're gonna to wanna do, because if you go ahead and use any old bolt and nut combo that you have, it can actually back out.

And if this does fail, that can cause some serious issues while driving. So getting the proper hardware with locking nuts, it's gonna make sure that it stays in place. It's also gonna be strong enough to hold up to the weight of the trailer. When we replaced the hardware on our equalizer here, you can actually see that this nut has seen better days, it is stripped out. So trying to reuse this, it no longer has that integrity so you have that locking feature to really hold this on.

So reusing this can put you in a potential that this can fall off. So just go ahead, get some new hardware, and know that it's on there properly, and not gonna come off. And that was a look at 9/16 Locking Nuts..

9/16 shackle bolts fit and worked exactly as I hoped they would. No issues at all with the performance of this product so far. Again, without having multiple years of use to see first hand just how durable it is makes it very hard to give any product like this five stars.

What excellent service I received. I received my shipment promptly and one of my items was ordered incorrectly. I wish I had known but was not too bummed. It was probably my mistake. When I called to re-order the rep recommended I go right to the manufacturer for the special part, and gave me the number. etrailer credited my credit card for the incorrect part and because it was not an expensive item did not require me to return it. Thank You!!!

by:

It's a basic locking nut. Not much to s ay.

Just what Ol Dr, Dave Ordered.

I don't know if my review went through so I'm attempting to write it again. These shackle bolts are top quality and strength as well as the locknuts. I do with the turnaround was quicker in getting them to me as I had to go through my local trailer shop to get the immediate 3 replacement bolts/locknuts; I will use these to eventually replace the remaining 3. I also do wish the free shipping incentive was lowered to $50 instead of $99. But overall, I am pleased with my order and appreciate that etrailer.com had them available.

by:

The original factory package came with the nuts sealed inside if their package, but two of the nuts were standard, not having the ability to lock when installed. I sent a note to eTrailer.com, asking for two replacement of which within a few days they arrived. I thank you eTrailer.com for their quick turnaround.
Thanks again
Merv L.

The original box that was shipped got damaged and lost a few parts. I contacted customer service and they shipped me the missing parts no charge. Another good experience.

I have an Econotrailer open deck trailer and these nuts seem to have a different thread pitch than the shackle bolts on the trailer. Since I ordered some bolts with nuts as well (part number TRFA73Z916DLNZ) I just used the new bolts with new nuts.

  • Availability of Hanger Kit e99ZR without Hangers
We sell the individual parts of the hanger kit part # e99ZR separately so for everything minus the hangers you'd wan the # A252CB-GALV, the # TRSL313 for the shackle straps, # ABS54FR for the shackle bolt and then for nuts # TRFA916DLNZ.

  • Should Trailer Suspension Shackle Bolts Be Torqued
When installing suspension components on your trailer there is not going to be a torque setting for the hanger bolts because they really only get tightened down to hand-tight. Going more than hand-tight can pinch the hangers closed and prevent the suspension from being able to move, which will eliminate the support a suspension provides. A standard shackle bolt like part # 9163B uses a mechanical lock nut like # TRFA916DLNZ to prevent it from backing off and would need to be tighten until...

  • Proper Torque for Shackle Bolt for 1-3/4" Wide Double Eye Springs 007-003-01
I do have some info for you but there isn't a torque spec for shackle bolts like the Shackle Bolt for 1-3/4" Wide Double Eye Springs part # 007-003-01. Instead, you'll want to tighten the nut for the bolt until snug and then back it off a 1/4 turn or so. If the nut is too tight it will cause the suspension to bind. Please note, in order to prevent the nut from loosening you'll need to use a locknut like the Locknut for Trailer Shackle Bolt part # TRFA916DLNZ.

  • Thickest Trailer Suspension Shackle that is 2-1/4 inches Long
The thickness of the Shackle Strap # TRSL225 that you referenced 3/16 inches. The thickest shackle we offer in the length of 2-1/4 inches is the part # 018-024-01 which is 1/2 inch thick. I know that sounds almost too thick to be true, but I've measured these before to verify. We also have these shackles with bolts as well as part # 018-026-05. Then for a lock nut you'd need # TRFA916DLNZ.

  • Replacement 3,500 lb Leaf Springs & 7-3/4 Inch Wide Equalizer
Thanks for all that info and we can get you exactly what you are needing. Since you have a 2-3/8" axle that would be a 3,500 lb axle, so you want leaf springs rated for that weight. The concern with springs that exceed the rating of your axle is that they will give you a very stiff, rigid ride, so you want to stay with the correctly rated springs. I'll go ahead and list out the parts you need, with a couple notes. First is that leaf springs elongate slightly over time, which is why the...

  • Replacement Shackle Straps For 1999 Ranger Boat Trailer With Tandem Axles
On your 1999 Ranger boat trailer with tandem axles, I recommend the Replacement Shackle Link with Bolts for Dexter Trailer Suspension Kits # 018-026-05. If instead you want to piece together your system, I recommend using the Locknut - 9/16" Diameter # TRFA916DLNZ, never fail bushings # LC279684, and galvanized strap # 18-11GALV. If you want to use the regular wet bolts, you can use # 126B2. If you want a complete basic kit, you can use the Tandem-Axle Trailer Equalizer Kit for 1-3/4"...

  • Is There A Torque Specification For Spring Eye Bolts?
If you are referring to the torque specification for the spring eye bolt, there is not a torque spec for this bolt. The general rule is to tighten the nut for the bolt until good and tight, but not too tight to where it will bind the spring. If the nut is too tight it will cause the suspension to bind. You can use the bolt # 9163B and lock nut # TRFA916DLNZ for a 2" wide leaf spring like the # e39SR
