Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

This site was very easy to order from. The product came quickly and on the day promised. Also free shipping is always a plus! I will definitely order from etrailer again!

by:

The online information on how to determine bolt pattern and measure a wheel was very useful to help me determine what size tire to order, since I was planning to use some rims I already owned. Once ordered, the 2 trailer tires arrived quickly, but a day apart (?). I had them mounted on my rims, balanced, and then swapped them out with the old wheels. No installation problems, and the trailer pulls nicely as always. Now we shall see how the tires wear over time.

by:

They've worked fine for me.

by:

I recieved my tires and wheels yesterday. I was in need of these quickly since I was leaving on a trip the same week. Dana M. at etrailer hooked me up with the right tires and wheels for my trailer and the shipping was as promised. Thank you guys for a great transaction. I would definitely buy again.

by:

I need to mount and balance these but they look like good tires. The sidewall is thinner due to the "C" load range but that should be fine and hopefully they are very durable.

by:

Have always been satisfied with all the tire products that I have purchased through etrailer and there is no issue with the actual product this time BUT I am a bit disappointed that the brand new tire arrived with a manufacturer date of Mid July 2021.....9/10 months old already.

by:

Its a trailer tire, what's to say? Time and milage will tell, then I'll review as to durability and endurance. I received it in only 3 days which is amazing, and what arrived was just what was ordered; as always with etrailer. Great service, good products, fair prices.

by:

Product was received quickly and fit great! I would use etrailer.com again.

by:

A great tire for your travel trailer. I ordered one for a spare.

by:

Nice tire, great price.

In our fast paced world where customer service seems to be a thing of the past, I am always amazed when shopping on etrailer. Prompt service, fast shipping and people who actually follow-up to ensure that you are satisfied!

This should be your one stop location for trailer parts.

by:

Very fast shipping. The tires are excellent quality and big upgrade from the load range B bias ply I had previously.

by:

Exactly what I needed to match existing tires

by:

Great service and fast shipping (free too) I bought a set of these mounted and bought this one for a spare. Chose these mostly for the load and speed rating as I use my trailer primarily on the hiway.

by:

Great wheel and tire, I was due for an upgrade on my enclosed trailer, delivery was super fast. I upgraded to these load D rated tires over my old load C. Great service from etrailer

by:

Unfortunately these only lasted 2 years and less than 8,000 miles before the belts "slipped" and the tires ballooned and got tall and round. I pull a 10k GVWR two-axle toy hauler weighed at 7800 lbs on the axles. These survived two 2600 mile trips and a few shorter trips at up to 65 mph. 3 of 4 tires ballooned and I replaced them before they blew. I filed a Kenda warranty claim and they denied that they could see anything wrong in the pictures. etrailer said Kenda handles warranty claims for these.

by:

One year review. We moved from Seattle, WA to Athens, GA. Just short of 3000 miles. These were on an overloaded boat trailer. I was happy for the extra load capacity and nice big tires. Ride smooth and no sway, which my wife was happy about. One less thing to worry about. I also have Karriers on my utility trailer. Good tires and value.

by:

Purchased to replace original bias ply tires that were ten years old. Rides as well as original tires. Maybe a little less bouncing when empty. I think the tires look nicer as well. Used the original rims. If the trailer lasts long enough I would use these tires again.

by:

The tires came quickly and and good condition. What more can you ask? Haven't mounted yet though.

by:

This is my second set of Karrier ST205/75R/14 TRAILER TIRES.Great tires and fast shipping. Balanced tires and pulled my camper many miles with no problems..

by:

Wheels came in promptly and in good condition we had also ordered center caps which were not since they were in the wheel boxes loose but another set was sent to us once customer service learned of our situation, great service!

  • Size Wheels That The Contender ST225/75R15 Tire is Compatible With
The Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part # C22515E will fit your 15x7 wheels. Size ST225/75R15 tires fit 15x6, 15x6.5 and 15x7 wheels. I have attached a helpful tire sizing article for your reference. The jj marking is just the design of the wheel and will not make a difference as long as the tire is compatible with the section width of the wheel.

In regards to a spare tire, you are going to want one that is the same size and load range as your current tire, and which you can see on its sidewall. For example, if you have a size ST205/75R15 tire with a load range of D a great replacement is the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load...

  • Recommended Winter Storage Covers for ST235/75R15 Tires on R-Pod
You are correct that the overall diameter of your ST235/75R15 tires measure just under 29 inches (28.9 inches to be exact). For this size I do recommend going with a cover that is designed to fit up to a 29 inch tire for a secure, snug fit that won't blow around too much while it's in storage. For your R-Pod I recommend the Adco Ultra Tyre Gard RV Wheel Covers in White # 290-3953, Black # 290-3973, or Diamond Plate # 290-3753. These covers feature overlapping seams, double-needle stitching,...

  • Need new tires for 2012 R-Pod 177
The fenders on your 2012 R-Pod 177 will be the limiting factor. I would suggest going with the factory wheel and tire size to prevent any rubbing. As the suspension travels, the tires may make contact with the fender if you did go with a larger size. From the factory it seems like the wheels and tires are 205/75 R14 like this one # TR20514. When the manufactures design these trailers, they take all of the performance test data in and choose the components that best fit their design. That's...

  • What is the Recommended Tire Spacing on Tandem Axles?
There are no industry standards for minimum spacing between the forward and aft tires, and the 3-1/2 inches of space you referred to will be plenty. Should you need the larger weight capacity the larger tires offer, you will be fine upgrading from 205/75R15 to 225/75R15. Something else to consider is the clearance between the inside wall of the tire and the trailer frame because the larger tires will be nearly an inch wider, so be sure you have at least three or four inches of clearance...

  • Recommended Radial Tires For 2007 K-Z Coyote Toyhauler
We do not have an exact match for the 235/75-R15 tires you have on your K-Z Coyote Toyhauler, but the tire we offer will work for you. I recommend the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire, part # AM10251. This is a Load Range C radial tire with a 6-ply rating and has a maximum load rating of 2,150-lbs at 50 psi. The difference between your tires and this tire is approximately .40 inches width, so this tire will work well for you.

  • Correctly Rated 225/75-15 Trailer Tires For 7,000 lb Tandem Axle Trailer
Okay, let's start real quick with if you should have different load rated tires on your tandem axle trailer - you can, but it isn't advisable as they will wear differently, or you'd need to keep a real close eye on the psi of each tire to make sure it's exactly the same. As for the rest of your questions, I'll take them one by one. 1) While we don't have Eagle tires so I can't comment on their viability, your friend is 100 percent right, load range F 225/75-15 tires are absolutely overkill...

This is load range D tire, with a 2150 lb per tire/4300 lb per axle rating. According to our distributor, the # AM10251 tire you'd looked at has a 65 mph speed rating. • Upgrade From 225/75R15 Load Range C Tire to Load Range D Tire on a Horse Trailer
I'm assuming that your horse trailer is a tandem axle trailer since most are and if that is the case, then your load range C tires are more than capable of handling your trailer and your horses. The ST225/75R15 load range C tire that we carry, Kenda Karrier Tire part # AM10251, is rated for 2,150 lbs at 50 psi. Four of these tires would give you a total capacity of 8,600 lbs. • Can ST205/75R15 Trailer Tires be Replaced With ST225/75R15 Trailer Tires on Grey Wolf 29TE
You can, assuming you have the proper clearance; with trailer tires, the general rule of thumb is you want at least 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your trailer's frame rail. ST205/75R15 measure 27.1" in diameter and 8.1" wide, while ST225/75R15 tires measure 28.3" in diameter and 8.9" wide, so you'll only be adding about 5/8" of height and 3/8" of width near the frame rail. You 2019 Dutchmen-Coleman Lantern travel trailer uses either 205-75/15 or 225-75/15 sized tires, depending on the model (the size of the tire can be found on the sidewall), and load ranges are important because they need to carry the brunt of the weight.
